  • Carbonite has only ONE (1) data center. Many other providers has multiple data centers that can spread the bandwidth among many other fiber optic lines versus one line of bandwidth. If many people are doing restores or back ups on carbonite, they are all throttled so that the line can handle them all. Also, *knocks on wood*, if something were to happen to the carbonite data center, all that information is lost. Forever. No different from your house burning down with your computer.

  • I suggest using a Mac and their built in Time Machine... It's never failed me and I am in control. If you want something done right, do it yourself. I have too much precious data to trust others with.

  • I used to believe in this product, but I too am now involved remotely in a carbonite nightmare and everything this man has stated is factual! They have outgrown themsleves and cannot support the product when it hits the fan.

  • Thank you so much for the information. You just saved me the trouble of going through Carbonite. I think I'll just go back to the old fashioned way and get another external hard drive. God bless. I hope you were able to get back all your files back.

  • When you make backups, you should always have three copies: (1) the original, (2) one local backup and (3) one remote backup.

If you restore *system files* from one machine to another you will break it, no matter what product you use.

  • @DonnEdwards Your 1000% correct! Think about how long it took to upload data to carbonite. That process was done while the system was idle. Now he gets a new computer and want to download those files in a day? I mean come on. Yes carbonite is a great service but you should have a local back up.

  • Thanks for sharing. i just signed up for the 14 day trial. i'm cancelling it and looking elsewhere. I can not afford this problem with my business back up.
