Frank Pooler one of my "HERO'S" for a long time. God Bless you Frank. Well the Holidays are here & I look forward to hearing this song at least a couple of hundred times between the radio & of course here on You Tube. Shhhh don't tell anyone but just like Karen I never would have a hard listening to Christmas music in the middle of the summer, especially all The Carpenters Christmas songs. As always Frank thank you for all of your contributions to music. These video's still make me cry, GB KC
What a classic. It always brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it for the first time of the season. Few other songs capture the spirit of Christmas as well as this song does. Karen Carpenter IS the voice of Christmas !
I fell in love with song the second I heard it in 1970 and rushed out to get the single. I was 15 then and now that I am 56 its still my very favorite Christmas song. Its such ashame Karen passed away. We will always love her voice.
I LOVE HER SONG IT REMINDS ME OF THE YEAR I MEET MY CHILDS DAD AND L8TER THAT YEAR I GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY. TIL THIS DAY I CAN SING THIS SONG TO MY BABY AND SHE'S 5 AND IT SOOTHE HER RIGHT OFF TO SLEEP.
The melancholy beauty of this song was something I used to torture myself with, but I have a love in my life and I don't have to play what if. Now I just enjoy the song for the beauty of it. Thank you Richard and Karen.
Best music ever music is no more like this and never will be again and for everyone that should make you extremely angry and cheated today's mainstream music is so tweaked and is assembly line bs not quality only quantity very sad :( Karen you will always be a beautiful angel.......
@wtchitnow1 she didn't have it "goin on", the woman's life was tormented, challenged, lonely and sad. I liked Karen, she had a wonderful voice, but her personal life was anything BUT charming. It was down right tragic. Let's learn from this and realize that without Christ, our lives are nothing more than empty songs that have no meaning. Sad that someone who had so much literally starved herself to death simply because she hated life. Think about it.
@voiceofelijah2012 She didn't starve herself because she "hated life." By all accounts, she didn't WANT to die. Anorexia nervosa is a mental disorder, and she got treatment for it at the end of her life. Unfortunately, it was too late.
@arfies Well said! I understand eating disorders. I was bulimic through my teen years. To this day I still have body image problems. She did not hate life, she felt she had to fit into an image that pleased everyone else. She, possibly did not know how to love SELF. It is a life long battle for those with this kind of disorder. Thanks
@voiceofelijah2012 When I said she "had it goin on!," I was talking about her voice. Of course I realize that she had plenty of issues in her personal life that led to her demise, and yes, that was tragic. I can't agree with you when you say that she hated life, though. Since I didn't personally know her, I dare not make that judgement. What we can agree on is that she suffered from a terrible mental illness that led to her starving herself to death.
I can't believe it's been over 27 years since she passed away, and it still feels like it was yesterday. If I could have given my life to save hers, I would have. Just like my Mother, who passed away in 1992. I can't describe the joy Karen gave me, as a teenager, in the early 1970's. Karen Carpenter's songs, gave me joy and memories, that will live forever, and thus, so will she. This Christmas song is a classic, just like Karen.
@stormcloud847 I'm a teen myself but I've known this sing since i was three, it's kind of annoying seeing all these glee fans at my high school, but no matter what it's still a great song, the original version of this song will always be the best.
