I thought that electronics weren't interchangeable like that. If the esc is too powerful you fry the motor and if the motor is too powerful you fry the esc, right?
@TheRBQ Wrong. You want to have the correct balance of prop, motor and esc. As long as everything fits within your equipments parameters your ok. We were deliberately pushing the gear well beyond its limitations. To learn more about these play around with any of the online "prop calculators". See what kv of motor works with what prop to give you what effect, and how many amps that will draw, you can always use a higher amp esc, but never a lower.
I think your motor "caught on fire" because you surrounded it with tape or insulation, or whatever that was. Motors running at high speed are notorious for becoming hot very quickly. Next time you may want to try using some sort of an external mount.
Dude. I joined an rc heli group and so far, I have made a CH-53E heli out of an rc plane and a little helicopter. 2 feet long and 6 inches wide. Works like a charm. We also do war role-playing events where you can bring your own heli and do maneuvers and other things. Good job on the plane. I thought it was really gonna fly.
Inspirational! Lord knows I have enough shards laying around to build one - you've given me a "Rain-Pouring-Down-Saturday-Project". Couple of questions for you experienced builders:
1. Where exactly would the CG be on a P-51, F4U, Extra 300, Typhoon 2, Yak? (And no wing-chord-schming-chord answers, keep it simple please.)
2. Do I have to go to Cape Canaveral to get NASA tape and do I need security clearance to use it?
@bonsairick Well im glad your having fun with the hobby and are brave enough to wreck a lot of gear while doing this type of project... 1: from what I have seen, CG is generally 2.5 to 3 inches behind the leading edge of the wing. Of course this differs from plane to plane so the best thing to do is use that as a guide, fly it, and if it lasted, move it according to how it handles. 2: Nasa tape is a trade secret, id tell you where to get it, but then id have to kill you.. video response yours!
@justlostagain Thank you very much! Theres some cool stuff coming, we want to see how it handles with a streamer. Dogfighting anyone?? As soon as winter decides to screw off
hey does anybody know if i can use the rc moter of an rc car (max speed 20KM/H with gears) for the propeller engine . ??????????????????

Nice one! It did fly! Actually pretty well too. Might want to drill in some air holes too for the electrics?

You could here at the begining when you throttle up to full the motor slows down, indication the prop mite of been too big....
