The problem with socialists is that they don't know how to handle money. All countries that have a socialist government are in financal trouble, like greece.
Here in Canada, our federal government is spending about 6% more each year on transfer payments and government growth when the GNP only grows about 3% per year.
Even a socialist should be able to figure out that continued this ends in a big problem.
We need a real conservative government in Canada and not a pretend one.
I already thought Harper was emulating u.s. republicans but now he's formulating strategy with advice from a lying, professional, propaganda-pushing spin master like Frank Luntz? I can't wait to vote Harper out.
@mikefastener great point. When someone like Sarah Palin comes to Canada and gets a warm reception, I really wonder. I didn't know so many of my fellow Albertans were so dumb for her crap, and Ann Coulter's. RE-gressive.
Terms like 'Free Trade' & 'Free Markets' are misleading. They only mean free money for the privileged few. The vast majority of us lose freedom & lose money as a result of those policies. Has domestic employment benefitted from outsourcing & deregulation of banks & big business? Related to that question is the misleading naming of our politicians as 'progressives' & 'conservatives'. Propaganda & lies! Most of America's 'leaders' belong to a single party...corporatists!
@819gatineau Please do elabroate how that was propaganda other than stating facts like, yes there are at least 3 to 4 left-of-center parties. And that Harper was more effective at framing issues... what is so propaganda about that? Socialism hasn't killed the nation, it never existed but certain social welfare benefits are the very reason why Canada has in the past ranked top 10 (interestingly before 2006) in all indices from education to health to democracy to human development....
@chad071981 I'm conservative, but I find myself rooting for the Green Party because I know they won't get any seats, and only serve to take votes away from the Liberals more than anyone.
Also, liberals say they want MMP NOW, but in a possible future, you might be preventing more liberal majorities than you realize.
I learned yesterday that the Bush administration and its representatives who also then worked in the 1980s were considered and called the "Crazies" amongst the majority of the representatives of congress, senate including the CIA and other prestigious government reps. Some former CIA agent mentioned it on 'Terror Storm' of Alex Jones. I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a definite true story though.
If you go to moviesfoundonline [google it] there's a documentary there that covers a number of topics related to how crazy the Republican fundies were before they tidied up with spin doctors.
No shit. Its careerism. All these guys have been working in gov depts for decades. Its no conspiracy.Instead the idea that its a conspiracy is the conspirancy, similar to the movie Global warming swindle.
At least it is better to prevent rather than lament for Global Warming. All I know San Diego which in the 1990s used to be on an average of 90 degrees f these past summers from since 2004 it has reached 113 degrees f.Something you commonly find 115 miles east into the desert of Imperial Valley or north of it at Death Valley.San diego used to look green and now it is starting to look yellow and brown.Water is in shortage and it is all fucked up humid hot and we are having west nile virus and shit.
the debates last night basically showed us what these people are like, i thought Layton, May and Ducceppe were the only ones with common sense, morals and goals for this country, and they know the difference between what is right and wrong and what canadians want. harper just plain scares me, he seems backwards about things. and dion is flat out no ready to lead. people better wake up or we'll end up in a hole we can't get out of.
we'll dig ourselves into it without something to get out.
I just wish I could be as positive in regards to your last sentence.
the republicans and conservatives HAVE to go.
Things could change drastically in a short time,,I'm hoping Obama wins and in Canada at the worst, we still have a conservative MINORITY gov with the NDP as opposition.
be really good if the conservatives are reduced to the opposition at best,,but have to wait and see.
I have nightmares of mccain and harper ruling . Cant even sleep at night anymore. lol!
Take a deep breath ntheAttic. Plan for the day after the election on what YOU are going to do for the issue of your choice.
Vid about what you want/don't want until then.
The conservatives have this country convinced they're going to win regardless. However, if it's a minority gov't it should last about 2 weeks before a vote of non-confidence.
The Conservatives will have their run. 2-3 years to screw up the economy. The next election we will be rid of them for another decade.
My dream is a Liberal NDP minority government.
Ha at a candidate debate I asked for an end to the prohibition on Marijuana The conservative candidate almost had a stroke he got so mad. All the rest were cool with the weed.
The Idea of conservative is great, less spending and budgeting within our means is obviously good. however our "Conservatives" tend to mix up too much with the US. This is Harpers downfall. We need trade, but trade with everyone, we became bedfellows with the US, and that is great if the US has a strong economy... this is obviously not the case now. NAU is a totally BAD idea. tying us to a warmongering Government make Canadians look bad, and doesn't do us an ounce of good in a world view.
"case now. NAU is a totally BAD idea. tying us to a warmongering Government make Canadians look bad, and doesn't do us an ounce of good in a world view."
Agreed but i believe Harper is suppose to be pulling out all of his troops by the end of 2009. So we will see. I definitely think Canada should branch out and do her own thing. I read their her economic state is much better than ours and the reason is Regulation.
Murray Dobbin is dead on. Canadians seem to have forgotten what it's possible for government to do. I've said for years that in this day and age Canada would never create universal healthcare because we've been convinced that that type of thing is impossible.
Absolutely. I've won my fair share of gov't fights because I refuse to listen to activists who claim "compromise" when the fact is--they're selling out because they've lost the belief that they can actually win anything.
There are 4 liberal-leaning parties versus one conservative-leaning. There are so many liberal-leaning parties because that is what Canadians want. Ironically, that alone is why Harper will do well.
It depends on what is meant by liberal. Economic liberalism is the cornerstone of so-called conservative politics. The greens, in this case are more like the conservatives than anyone else. And certainly the Liberal Party did little to assist the average Canadian in the short term. I will grant that they erased our deficit and attmepted to pay back the shameful deficits of the Mulrooney era, but even that is now gone (oh yeah, who erased the surplus?).I want to give the real left party a go
Absolutely. When are Canadians going to "get it" that the conservatives spend outrageously on policies we DON'T want and other gov'ts spend money on programs/policies that the *citizens* are demanding?
And by doing so, they spend LESS than the conservatives.
Canucks, in general, are willing to spend on social programming. We aren't prepared to pay for wars of aggression or for trade agreements that imperil our natural resources.
Harper did well because, as I've been screaming at the top of my t*ts for years--liberals don't know how to use the web as media to their best advantage. So the republicans/conservatives pounded the crap out of them!
The problem with socialists is that they don't know how to handle money. All countries that have a socialist government are in financal trouble, like greece.

that's not conservatism its common sense. You spend what you have.
Liberalism is taking in revenue for services. Conservatism... Its a mind set plain and simple.

PersonalJesus348:
"Conservatism" is based on fear.
Fear of taxes, as opposed to seeing money as a way to make life better for everyone by using that money in the way the citizens demand.
Fear of other countries as opposed to being IN the world in a meaningful way.
Fear of the loss of power rather than in the service of humanity.
Fear of multiple religions and using our common sense and humanity instead of a fear of some vengeful God to guide our actions.
