To me, this song doesn't say that he wishes for another nan to be alone so that he could have a girl. To me he is wishing that the girl had met the nicer version of him and not the, let's presume, nastier side of him. And maybe if he had been nice to her the first time he had met her then he would have her and the nasty version would be alone, but that's just me :)
