This is not "my cat died" angst, nor "boys don't like me" angst. It's angst on steroids.  Hyperbolic angst. A great heaping helping of angst raised to some incomprehensible power.

The fall of the Roman Empire and the descent of its remnants into illiterate feudalism might have prompted this much angst.
