The thing is, our soldiers CHOOSE to do SERE training, they know that there is an end point to the suffering, the torture has a finite life. Not knowing when it will end or if it ever will, that's torture.
And after the first time KSM must have also realized there was an end point. So, technically if we follow your logic he was only tortured once because that was the only time he was not aware of an end point. This is assuming he did not know if it was going to end or not in the first place, and what is the evidence for that assumption? Our soldiers choose to undergo hardships, that is understood, but that is a far cry form torture. I stand by my prior statement.
I don't know if you know this or not, but this technique is used to train American soldiers. Actually worse, because when we do it to train soldiers we do it until they pass out and then we bring them back to life. If you do that while interrigating someone it would be pointless because then they would forget the question. Waterboarding has a poor track record of working, so I think we should move onto more effective methods, but I'm not losing sleep over it.

Waterboarding is used by government agencies and military to get the answer that they want, that suits their best interests, not what might be the right answer. If I were kept in captivity for 4 years, in a shit hole that one can only imagine is full of human suffering, chances are I would confess to crimes I didn't commit also. And trust me I have experiences that cause nightmares their are nights I can't sleep. The thing is, our soldiers CHOOSE to do SERE training, they know that there is an end point to the suffering, the torture has a finite life. Not knowing when it will end or if it ever will, that's torture.

I don't know if you know this or not, but this technique is used to train American soldiers. Actually worse, because when we do it to train soldiers we do it until they pass out and then we bring them back to life. If you do that while interrigating someone it would be pointless because then they would forget the question. Waterboarding has a poor track record of working, so I think we should move onto more effective methods, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
