  • how old he was when this was filmed?

  • sick with age, dying of cancer - and look at the way he moves.

    incredible.

  • one guy has already get owned by ab ving tsun practisoner

  • his name is spelled Ip man. That is how he spelled his name

  • I believe that Yip Man's students who went on to teach, due to the public's demand for instruction in wing chun, led to the immense popularity of the art today. The demand was fueled largely in part by Bruce Lee's popularity. Many fans knew that he had learned wing chun, and he was famous for the one-inch punch and chi sao.

  • aww u cut off the ending

  • how can one man who started teaching a few students in 1950 a not-yet famous style and then get to grow his lineage to several millions practioners? is he just happens to be the originator of the Hong Kong branch or did he have special way of teaching his first students that they went on to be great instructors themselves .....

  • i would just throw everything away.. just to be his pupil. unfortunately such great masters, dont exist any more. its all about fame money and cars. no honor and no aesthetic. welcome to the 21th century. R.I.P. yip man. you made a big impact on my live

  • wats wif the music LOL

  • I love how my family tree goes Ip man (short) moy yat (tall) Lee moy shan (short) Lee gar lun (tall)

  • this is clasic awesome ... you tubes - jerry cook chinese boxing - demos the 18 form wing chun system modled after shaolin nun neg moi fighting art 18 buddaha palm

  • I practice wing chun in Yip Man's lineage and I know Yip is perfect but man, this song makes everything better!

    =D

  • i have seaching a lot of video but i can not find grandmaster ip man demonstrating Biu gee, have he ever demonstrated it before?

  • @klsuperman H e wanted too but Yip Chin and Yip Chun(his sons) didn't alow him because he was really sick at the time and Biu Jee requires a lot of energy from the practioner.

  • @1996jay

    Oh! It's a pity.

  • I'm so glad that Yip Man filmed the forms before he died. Any questions can be answered by watching his forms. I've heard all kinds of sifus tell me different things about subtle points with the forms. But Yip Man is the final authority.

  • ive learned this version and the new but i prefere this

  • @xIRWINBx

there are no versions my friend...there are only the 3 forms..over the years many sifus have adapted it and changed it to their particular desires which only serves to widen the gap between what shd be learned and wat is being learned

  • @zach1791 wel if ther is a form that is similar 2 this but slightly changed i wud call that a different version of it. but i doesnt matter anyway i have learned the tradittional way as shown buy the great yip man

  • @xIRWINBx iv heard bong sau was a similar form to chum kiu not sure tho

  • @hiphoplivs bong sau is a trap

  • wing chun is a shame to yip man's name...wing tsun (leung ting) is the real..

  • @monguzkillamc watch how yip man does these forms. and then watch your sifu doing the wing tsun forms then you will realize whats the real wing chun forms.

  • @monguzkillamc nice joke, made me laugh a little.

  • @nel3000

i agree..someone is blowing smoke up his ass for him to believe that...leung ting is the last person i wld go to to learn wing chun

  • @monguzkillamc

If you know Cantonese you will know the pronunciation of Wing Chun is correct, in actually Leung Ting is suck, don't believed him.

  • wankers.i was interested to see from 1.19 to the end.i become confused because the end is not symmetrical.

  • @bignaughtydog watch?v=1ckHE4X8yUk here the same way yip man did it in slower also the person performing it is one of yip man's students

  • wankers.i was interested to see from 1.19 to the end.i become confused because the end is not symmetrical.

  • When I first started Wing Chun in '02 it was because my Sifu was a recognized Sifu from the "Athletic Association" that GM Ip Man started. He was taught by his son GM Ip Ching and I had seen this footage a long time ago. It was filmed just a short period before GM died of cancer. But he still has great form and footwork thats a testament to kung fu. Even for as sick as, and as old as he was; he was able to perform a great boxing form. I love to use this footage as a referance for myself.

  • @angerslave1 actually it was just 1 week before he died. i wonder what he was like in his prime

  • First:I find Yip Man's Movements to be very beautiful. His flow looks like the rightest thing in the world.

Second:grraquino i don't think the video was cut by the poster but that there's only this much material available.

Third:PaulConway1973 you asked for a list of Martial Arts that use the opponents mass and energy against them. To name some very well known: Judo, Ju-Jutsu, Aikido and traditional Wrestling are good examples.

After practicing different Martial Arts I've just started doing WT.

  • Who knew him first hand exactly, and do you know them? Hearsay isn't allowed in court you know.

  • To Godsmasher you are aware Ip man is Bruce lee`s Wing chun Sifu right and i doubt few could equal or surpass his skill.

True of the matter is while all the names you listed are skilled they are utlising far less sopiscated combat systems than ip man.

Saying anyway of these masters would easily defeat Ip man is like say a skilled archer has an advantage over a skilled sniper .

  • Dude, why the heck did you cut off the finalization? FAIL!

  • Paulconway1973, you mentioned about keep learning TRADITIONAL Wing Chun. I am curious what your lineage is. I know Yip Man taught modern Wing Chun which already had a lot of changes in the moves and the foot work. I know one of his students, William Cheung, claimed to have learned the traditional style from Yip man, was the only one teaching TRADITIONAL Wing Chun aside from the few different lineages still teaching TRADITIONAL Wing Chun in China.

  • Paulconway 1973, I know you can't punish a pitiful dumb dog for pissing on a carpet, but you can always knock some sense into his thick skull to make him a little bit smarter. LMAO...

  • Yip Man rules!

his posture look rather leaned back though i'm impressed that he can stand like that, or it could be the tilt of the camera

  • Godsmasher22, you stupid dumb fuck, how you know all these guys would beat him at his prime?? Were you there? If you were there, you would have been dead by now. your bones would have turned into ashes and all the marrow dried up and your sorry ass corpse would have been eaten up by maggots. Idiot. Don't assume when you have not seen it. Moron.

  • Thanks WCE .... I got bored with replying to that idiot ... you cant punish a dumb dog for pissing on the carpet ... its not his fault he is so stupid ... I thought his mindless comments would raise some pulses and I was right. :-) Take care M8!

  • Well in your reponses to my carpet pissing you didn't really say much to refute my claim that those guys would've destroyed Yip Man. So how would he have overcome the massive number of obstacles facining him were he to fight the guys I mentioned?

  • Comment removed

  • Well I actually don't know? The guys you mentioned were also apparently good; I have however never met or seen them as some of them have been dead for 50 years! It's not really the man but the Martial Art? Which is the better? Also what level is it understood? What is more functional. Don't judge a book by its cover. In most arts you can borrow energy from the opponent and use there mass against them? I did like some of the names on the list! Your not so stupid maybe only mindless in comment?

  • Paul, there is so much hero worship in the martial arts i sometimes just pop off because people will lose their minds so predictably. No I've actually learned quite a lot from the Yip Man demos here.

  • I know what you mean especially with Wing Chun I get a little annoyed when I see everyone proclaiming to be a Grand Master! I'm sure they can kick my ass but still? It does get confusing? Anyway that kick that started all this in my knowledge isn't aimed at the opponent it's a bridging kick used to defuse a kick coming from the opponent. That's also a reason it looks a little feeble.

  • I do give Ip Man much respect only as he brought to the world's masses 'Wing Chun', I know It wasn't him which founded Wing Chun, but 1/2 Million practitioners owe it to him for making sure it survives. I'm hoping to keep learning traditional Wing Chun to make sure it doesn't get filtered which is highly fashionable now with BJJ and MMA. I want to preserve everything I learn and pass it on one day.

  • Its a simple matter of having equal skill sets, but asymmetrical attributes. All the guys I listed have comparable fighting skills. That is not to say the same fighting skills but that functionally their expertise is equal. However, I would venture to guess that all of them were much stronger, heavier and and more athletic. And when skills are equal fighting comes down to attributes and experience.

  • @Godsmasher22i won't call you names but i will say that you're sorely misguided and understand NOTHING about the art and science of Ving Tsun. Your comments prove that better than anything i or anyone here can.

  • actually chinese kung fu is very effective martial art just see you dare apply or not. A lot practicetioner dont dare appy because they dont believe or understand each movement they learn. In the end in real fight they just like doesn't use at all mostly like street fight.

  • Hes teh master of the art dumb ass and hes wared out you idiot!

watch his movie..hes a legend..most people his age cant stand with out a crane you idiot.

    @Godsmasher22

  • Yeah.... the kick might not be the best he might of ever performed.... lets see how your kick looks on the last weeks of your life. Learn the history of these clips before making such a senceless comment. The reason why he never made clips of the other forms is because was weak with illness and his sons Ip Ching and Ip Chun stopped him. This is why the other forms are by Ip Chun! Damm man learn your history!

  • @Godsmasher22 Ok, you mention many names but only 2 that are not related to japanese martial arts or ju-jitsu or some other style that can be compared to wrestling..

The styles you seem to appreciate uses a lot of energy and muscles to give good results.. I'd like you to understand that Ip man's Wing chun doesn't need one to be tensed or muscled to be good with Wing Chun but to have a clear mind and not see with the eyes but with the arms.. they alone gives you more speed than only seeing

  • @Godsmasher22 the two names remaining are Bruce Lee and William Wallace..

William Wallace was good with weapons and combat strategies but had no skills in unarmed fighting.. so he can never match Ip man, nor any of his students..

Bruce Lee was a student of Ip man. it's like if you were comparing me to my Sifu.. I'd be dead meat in 5 seconds if he wished..

For the other names you mentionned, If they are as good martial artists as you think, there would be no fight..

  • @Godsmasher22 George Foreman is a Boxer right ? Maybe you should notice that boxers do not use their legs in combat except for footwork. If they are facing someone using kicks, they have no techniques to block or deflect attacks that are lower than the belly..

  • @Godsmasher22 haha you would have been owned in a second by Yip Man

  • I'm not sure that was up for debate as I never lumped myself into all the people who would have wrecked Yip Man. I was just telling you who would ratcheted up the wreckage on him.

  • so so simple, yet extremely efficient! We must always remain ''siu lim tao''! It all comes down to fok, tan and bong!

  • wow. The timing if his yiu ma (the way his body weight moves forward along with his chosen strike / blocke etc) is genuinely amazing. Utterly perfectly in sync.

  • this was i believe 2 weeks befor he died from throat cancer so definatly not his peek grate vid by the way does any one know the name of the song i know its from drunken fist with jackie chan

  • Thank you for posting this. I haven't practiced in quite some time and I just realized that I could not remember how Chum Kiu started (I forgot about the part where you pivot with your elbows in the begining).

  • This was NOT him at his peak. He was sick toward the end when he made this. And I'm sorry, but I HAVE to say this.. This is not the Chum Kiu he learned later in life, but the earlier version from his first and less skilled teacher.

I know it stings to hear it, but Yip Man had two teachers! And the Wing Chun he taught everyone was from what he learned from his first teacher. He was after all Chinese, and all that means is that he kept the good stuff just to be safe.

  • Hmmmm! good Wing Chun! Lol I can see you have a point. but then he wanted to preserve Wing Chun which is why he taught it to the masses... I have trained a little with Ip Ching his son. I also have migrated Sifu to a Student of Sifu Ip Ching... The difference is a lot to do with Energy Placement and Structure. A good teacher will teach this!

  • @bl00zjamma Not true. Yip Man did not believe in 'keeping things secret.' He was an open teacher who was generous with his knowledge - so say the people who knew him first hand.

That is also why you should not believe claims of 'secret techniques,' or that he taught certain things only to certain people

  • A Legend

  • Wow this is a very special clip of the original GmYip Man.This of him doing chum kui is very remarkable.Even at his age he still moved with grace n finese.Yip was truly and still today a legend and over 2million practioners.Even the Ip man movie was the best movie I've ever seen.Donnie yen played Ip man very good.Thank You for sharing this with us of theGm Ip man.

  • ChowLiWei,

I'm not a practitioner of Wing Chun, but have always admired its science. This video is one of those priceless gems, that fewer and fewer will ever realize. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • @TeetMauLau You should give it a go, it's a lot of fun and gives you a confidence boost :)
