@Ibik 2 other guys in the band Dave Mustaine and the other guy i.... actually dont really know who tht one is, pretty sur hes a member of Megadeth though haha
Despite Megadeth being mostly around Dave Mustaine, since David Ellefson left, Megadeth doesn't say anything more to me. Maybe I'm just picky but David Ellefson made the difference. It's just weird to see Megadeth playing and not seeing David rocking the hell of that bass.
Kinda makes me wonder what Pantera would've been like without Rex. Sure his bass lines weren't exactly masterpieces of themselves, but they really made that sound in the band. I still can't believe how selfless Dime was to allow that much bass in the EQ. Gave me a whole new respect for him when I became a bassist and realized the sound that was there.
@guitargodfromhell yea, i think the guitar should sound as sharp as possible and let the bass fill in the bass feel, i dont like guitar players that make their guitar sound bassy lol, cause if they do then y have a bass player if the guitar player is gonna make the guitar sound like both in one lol
I think that rust in peace is where he showed everything he had, like honestly every song in that album had an awesome bassline but their other albums were still great with him.
from what I've heard he when dave got in an accident and damaged his right hand, ellefson tried to sue him for loss profits, claiming he was trying to fake his injury so that he wouldn't have to be in megadeth anymore.
Now he plays with hard rock/heavy metal band called F5 and he played in some songs of the Ripper Owen´s new album. You should check them out. But I agree James LoMenzo is great but I prefer David Ellefson.
when playing any type of music, play whatever bass feels good to you!, then a BIG part of the deal is what amp you are using. if you don't have a good amp for the style you are going to be playing, everything will be uskess. i play all types of metal(to many genres to list) and use a Ibanez SR506 bass, and an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro w/ 8/10 cab. it's everything i could ask for in a bass and rig. Just play around and see what fits you the best.
most of the songs in rust in peace and killing is my business (and their new albums) are very fucking hard to play, i admire david ellefson, plus, his live bass solo is fucking awesome, it has way more melody than most of the stuff other famouser bass players ever wrote, and its fucking hard to play
You should have put the bass solo from Chosen Ones, the opening of My Last Words, and about any part from Killing is My Business; mainly when Dave is saying "help me" with the bass interlude. From this seems like you don't listen to enough older Megadeth. Only song I saw before Rust in Peace was Peace Sells cause everyone who heard Megadeth heard that song. Killing is My Business if you ask me is their best. If you don't have it pick it up. It'll blow your mind till metal comes out your ass.
Sorry I mean Skull Beneath The Skin not Killing Is My Business. I was listening to Killing so I typed it by accident. Actually if you ask me personally Skull Beneath The Skin is the best Megadeth song in my opinion. Well up there with Set The World Afire. But thats off topic. Old school Megadeth is the way to go if you ask me. (Pre-Countdown To Extinction).
nice to see different point of views, that's one of the main points of youtube, well, indeed KIMB is a hell of an metal album, but I rather go for middle megadeth, so as you say I dont listen to much to older megadeth, because their songs are not as ear friendly as RIP's or CTE, and Mustaine vocals sound better in that albums, shame he lost his voice
Can't really except metal singers to keep their voice anyways. Well Mustaine probably has kept his singing voice the closest to what it was in the 80s. Hell look at Tom Araya and Chuck Billy compared to the 80's their voices went out the window. I actually suggested to my friend we should make a tomb stone and put "Chuck Billy's Voice" on it. It's hard to say what album I actually like more, Killing or RIP; they're both amazing. Everyone has their own opinion anyways. But stay metal dude.
I saw a ellefson vs newstead video where it only played the intro to peace sells compared to a newstead solo, Ellefson kicks ass, you need to get the bass solo from chosen ones in there.
Surprising how most songs on this list are from the Friedman era, with albums like cryptic writings hardly making a mention. Also the bass on United abonimations has very little presence.
Ellefson's bass break in "Take No Prisoners" was ruined in the remixed, remastered album. There's no grit to it and it sounds out of place. Good show, using the old version.
