richard's dad called the captain because his son was hit in the head by sandra bullock's character, but why didn't sandra bullock arrest richard for what in the movie appeared to be a blatant form of assault? She didnt report it at all. And why did she get out of the car when he came up to her? I didnt get that at all

ok so here is something else i dont understand. In the movie where sandra bullock is taking pictures of justin and richard to prove that they hang out with each other, richard (ryan gosling) sees her and confronts her. I didnt understand this part because in wikipedia it says that he attempted to frighten her by seducing her and that she hit his head with the car door in self defense. Yet for some reason in the movie she never tells her captain that ryan's character was trying to attack her?

I really love this movie and I LOVE sandra bullock. I think, she can play realy serious persons but also in comedy, because she is really beautiful but her face has this something I don't know how to say. She is my absolutely fav actress and this movie is awesome.

@clanhsm it was based on the murder they comitted. Except they changed the item left behind to identify the murders from a pair of glasses to vomit. The L and L murders spawned lots of books and films including the play and later film Rope.

This case is similar to Leon and Leopold, only in the sense that two rich kids were bored and decided that committing a homicide would be great entertainment. Leon and Leopold were two gay lovers who decided to seal their love by kidnapping and murdering a well known little boy. The only similarity here is associating murder with entertainment, the rest is completely gay.

Who is Leon?:) You mean Leopold and Loeb, Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb that is.:) The similarity is how Leopold and Loeb thought that they were so smart that they could commit the perfect murder & get away with it, this is like a moder day version of that, with Ryan Gosling's character Richard Haywood resembling more of Leopold, while Michael Pitt's Justin Pendleton resembling Loeb alot in appearance, but the personalities are sort of split between both characters.:)

The 2 kids' characters in this film are quite similar to the real life killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. The Popular kid idolizing the outcast together plotting to kill. I'm not comparing the impacts of real life and death in any way, I just seem to beleive the characters in the film possibly may have been based on the killers of Columbine.
