To me, she is the greatest songwriter to ever walk this earth. Every word, every line oozes sincerity - beautiful honesty, deep emotion - so poignant, so perfect - Summer, Spring, love, pain, childhood, nostalgia, Mother Earth - she captures everyday in everyline and eternalises it. Joni, thank you for sharing your gift. Thank you for sharing your light.
Jesus H. Christ, I love this woman. "On your mark red ribbon runner /The caressing rev of motors/Finely tuned like fancy women/In thirties evening gowns" LOVE what this woman does with words.
@poeticjournalism Yes indeed, those are some of my favourite Mitchell lines too, Blue is always universally cited as the Definitive Mitchell album, but personally from that era I prefer "For the roses".
@MusicForYourFunk thats just the physical church, it has been corrupt for many years, im catholic and i dont really like the way the church leaders do things all the time, but the teachings of jesus are all very positive and can do nothing but good if followed
This is my favorite album by Joni. 1972 and she toured "For the Roses" and I met
her. Unlike other famous musicians, she connects with other fans who adore her.
Her lyrics to all her songs are so deep. Probably the best songwriter ever. I wonder
how many Grammys she has received and did she get the Lifetime Achievement Award for Shine? Really brings back wonderful, magical memories. Thank you for the share.

After hearing the album version so many times, any new chance to hear a different version of any of Joni's songs is most welcome!

im going to say ... she MAY have been catholic at one time (raised?) but certainly is not now.
her 2007 album SHINE she voices her dislike of the Catholic Church.
“Shine on the Catholic Church/And the prisons that it owns,” she sings. “Shine on all the Churches/that love less and less.”
she continues: “Shine on lousy leadership/Licensed to kill/Shine on dying soldiers/In patriotic pain/Shine on mass destruction/In some God's name!”

@GuitarsAreMagic
yes, i agree. i thin it's the 'organized' Catholic church that she has lost faith in.
i've personally always considered myself spiritual just not religious.
but i do have respect for those who truly learn the messages that are typically put forth within spiritual teachings.

Thanks for this; I'd only ever heard the album version and it's interesting to listen to what she does to it live.
