About this whole screaming thing, have you guys not seen the A7X all axxess dvd for City of Evil? Their producer on the unholy confessions said that before they even recorded the album, shadows said that he wanted to make an album with screaming, then one with singing and screaming, then one with only singing. They left their original record label, because they wanted the freedom to do what they wanted. Such as produce their own albums. They stopped because THEY WANTED TO. They also still scream live, and it God Hates Us, Not Ready To Die, etc... Matt never had surgery. He popped a blood vessel, but it completely healed with rest.
@MeBTroll First of all, I've watched tons of interviews on it. He popped the blood vessel, he kept performing, and made it worse. Than the doctor just told him to rest his voice for about a half year or so. He couldn't talk, or anything. He never had surgery though. Second of all, they planned on stopping screaming before he even popped that blood vessel. They've said that hundreds of times. Third of all, he still screams all the time. Including in their latest single.

And there's a significant change in his voice from Waking the Fallen stuff to City of Evil, his voice sounds more gritty and wheezy in CoE. He did have singing lessons, but there's no way his voice could have changed just like that. Plus he can't hold long notes for that long now.

They left their original record label, because they wanted the freedom to do what they wanted. Such as produce their own albums. They stopped because THEY WANTED TO. They also still scream live, and it God Hates Us, Not Ready To Die, etc... Matt never had surgery. He popped a blood vessel, but it completely healed with rest.

@MeBTroll First of all, I've watched tons of interviews on it. He popped the blood vessel, he kept performing, and made it worse. Than the doctor just told him to rest his voice for about a half year or so. He couldn't talk, or anything. He never had surgery though. Second of all, they planned on stopping screaming before he even popped that blood vessel. They've said that hundreds of times. Third of all, he still screams all the time. Including in their latest single.

@richig761 I'm not saying surgery is the reason why he stopped screaming. I know it was his choice way before he had surgery. If you watched that vid, Matt himself clearly said "After I had surgery".
And there's a significant change in his voice from Waking the Fallen stuff to City of Evil, his voice sounds more gritty and wheezy in CoE. He did have singing lessons, but there's no way his voice could have changed just like that. Plus he can't hold long notes for that long now.

Watch God Hates Us, live in iraq. His voice sounds deeper and huskier. Yeah, of course it does. For many reasons. One, because of his vocal lessons. He used to sing incorrectly. Then, because of age. He was 18 and 20 years old during STST and WTF. He's about 30 now.

@richig761 His voice has recovered now, I agree he's a much better singer. But a year or 2 after his surgery, his voice sounded VERY different and strange, compare the 2004 Warped Tour Unholy Confessions to the 2006 Rock AM Ring Unholy Confessions. I'll PM you the interview.
