i agree, good video but your doxie definitely looks overweight. he has no waist and he's very round in the back. i have a muscular doxie with clear muscles in his legs. i can't see any tone in your doxie but he does have a nice shiny coat.
milksack309-Thanks for commenting. Lola (rottie) was actually rescued from a horrible Puppy Mill, where she was forced to repeatedly have litters with her mouth always clamped shut. Her stomach hangs from the fact that she has had an unnatural number of litters. She was actually "underweight" in this video according to the vet. And Teddy is ALL muscle.
@alissaz3 my pitbull is suddenly skinny. his spine is sticking out and and ribs are sticking out...well....i think his ribs are fine, but his spine. staffies are supposed to be stocky,
@j0hnxjxrambo Can you please tell me how much and what exactly you are feeding per day currently. Are you feeding enough fat? Is your dog always hungry? Is your dog acting sick/lethargic in other ways? If my dog was suddenly skinny and there were no other health problems, I would increase the red meat and fatty foods (to bowel tolerance). If you are feeding a diet heavy in bone and lean proteins, your dog won't gain weight.
@alissaz3 i don't have a meat scale, but the meat that i bought online tells how many pound each product is. sometimes i split the 2lbs bags to both dogs cause i want the meat to last for a month and sometimes i feed two whole bags for each. the mutton bones that i bought was 2-3lbs or 4 and i didn't split it, i just gave them each one whole piece like that. i probably didn't feed them enough fats.
@j0hnxjxrambo 1 lb of food is enough for a 50 lb dog. I weighed my pit bull, Guinness the other day. I thought he was about 60 lbs. He is pure muscle. He weighs 78 lbs! He looks amazing. I let him self-regulate. It really sounds like you are not feeding your dog enough and he is starting to show the effects. So feed more food! Feed fattier foods to bowel tolerance. Dogs do not just magically get skinny if they are healthy. You need to increase the food.
@alissaz3 but i also have a german shepherd too and i want the food tast a month. the shepherd is bigger and has more energy so i feed him more. i feed the pitbull less cause he's not active. i will try feeding him more than.
@j0hnxjxrambo If they need more than what you are purchasing, then you should purchase more to make it last each month. If your pittie is losing weight, then he needs more food. Are there any local raw feeding co-ops in your area, so you can feed more food and not spend as much? It is clear that your pit bull needs more food if he is losing weight.
@alissaz3 why do people think weight bearing bones can break dogs teeth? dog's aren't stupid. i gave mine beef ribs and if they can't break them, they won't even try and i saw a video somewhere about wolves and it said that wolves only have one set of teeth so they can't bite really hard if they hunt alone or else they'll break their teeth so they have to combine strength by hunting in packs. i think dogs are as smart as they are if you give them weight bearing bones.
@j0hnxjxrambo that's funny. Yes, I think it is more about knowing your dog. Beef ribs are not weight baring bones like femurs are. Ribs are fine. Exactly-I do agree with you. Dogs are not stupid and the more intelligent raw eater, the better they are at knowing their limits! But, I totally agree with you! Good point.
@alissaz3 my pitbull keeps on swolling lean meat whole if there's no bones in it. i fed both of them beef trims and the shepherd took his time chewing, but the pit just....he does chew it, but swallows it too soon or he's trying to swollow it whole and when he does that, he spits it back out and there like gooie saliva everywhere. i try hand feeding, but he grabs it with his teeth and it hurts lol....
@j0hnxjxrambo Did you increase the food percentage? Before you said his spine was sticking out. I wonder if he is too hungry and therefore eating too fast...or feels like food is scarce.
@alissaz3 yes, i did increase it and he still eats really fast. his spine is starting to go away now. the beef trim that i gave him came in big chunks. he would do better if if was one big piece, but i don't know why the supplier had to cut it into chunks.
have you tried to hand feed them? separately? i would recommend feeding them separately, with your hands, you being neutral-but so they know the food is from your hands. i am telling you from experience. i feed 8 dogs, 5 of them are purebred pit bulls, but we have 6 of them eat together. i will take a video and post it for you to see.
@alissaz3 did you ever pick your dogs poop up or do you leave it there and way till it turn to dust? i only leave the runny ones and picked up the firm ones.
@j0hnxjxrambo I leave it all in the yard and it all fertilizes my lawn. We have 8 dogs, and their stools do not smell and easily go into the soil as nutrients.
@alissaz3 how can i tell if a dog has urine infection? my pitbull don't pee inside that much anymore, but he still does it in awhile. if i don't see him do it i can't punish him and if i just clean the mess and went away and came back like a couple minutes later, there's pee on the floor again, so they only way that works for me is if i punish him after he did it then he he won't do it again. are there something about pitbulls that makes them slow learners? our last pit was like that too.
@j0hnxjxrambo To test for a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) you need to go to the vet. I do not agree with punishing your dog for peeing in the house, especially if there is a possibility of a UTI and it is something they cannot control. Is he peeing in the house or just marking? If there is any scent of pee they will think it is okay to pee. Basically, it is natural for dogs to pee where there is scent. They do not pee in their dens in the wild, so no scent. And no, pitbulls are not slow learners
@alissaz3 can dogs eat any kind of fish other than salmon? mine has tried white fish that i ordered from hare today gone tomorrow. i would buy salmon from them, but it's too expensive and i would i have to freeze it for a month to give it to them.
@alissaz3 i live in wisconsin and it get very cold in the winter. my dogs breath still smell bad when they opened their mouth and breath. i've been feeding raw for 2 months now....3 after january.
@j0hnxjxrambo how do their teeth look? Do you let them gnaw on bones that they can work on for hours? Also, if their teeth are clean, you may have some digestive upset/problems that can lead to the odor. We have 8 dogs and all of them have absolutely no odor in their breath-that is what you should notice. Maybe they need some bones they can work on for hours to clean those teeth better...just a thought : )
@alissaz3 their teeth are clean and white. i gave my shepherd a huge pig head the other day. i fed that as a meal cause i was low on food. he worked on it for 4 hours until the only thing that's left are the upper and lower jaw of the pig. before that, i gave them both two smaller pig heads. i think they might have a digestive problem than because they squat a couple times to poop.
@j0hnxjxrambo pork can cause digestive upset-especially if they ate a lot of it-it may cause loose stools or going to the bathroom too much. Pork is pretty fatty compared to other proteins and if you fed it with the skin on that could make it harder to digest. What is the sodium content on that pork?
@alissaz3 i bought the pork from hare-today gone tomorrow. it just said that it's low in sodium. i know it's pretty fatty and i thought i might help my dogs gain a little bit.
the shepherd is really challenging me for dominant. when the pitbull was eating his turkey in the kennel, the shepherd got close and the pit growls, but this time the shepherd didn't back down and hell broke loose they started fighting over the food. i pulled the shepherd away and they went at it again so i grabbed a empty gallon of juice bottle and slammed it on the ground. that made them stop.
@alissaz3 i've got two large rabbits for my dogs. it weighs 3-4lbs, and should i feed them the whole thing in one meal or let them eat half and take the other half away for the next meal?
@j0hnxjxrambo Personally I would feed the whole thing-since it is so much work, they will probably get full before they finish the rabbit. If they try to bury it, then you can take it away, but let them work on it. Dogs stomachs are highly elastic and meant to eat big gorge meals. Let me know how it goes
@alissaz3 it went well, but the pitbull's stomack got huge after that, but he'll be okay. what if i were to feed whole goat or sheep? do i let them eat until they are stuffed?
@alissaz3 i finally got some venison. my one of my brother went hunting and brought my parents a whole deer. my dad didn't want to let the dogs have any lean meat so he just give me some meaty bones he chopped from the chest of the deer.
anyway, my dogs did have some venison or mostly bones before, but never really meaty ones until now and when they first tr it, the next day they pooped alot. are venisons rich? they will poop and poop until they poop runny.
@j0hnxjxrambo loose stools can be from too much food, not enough bone, too much organ meat, too much fat before they are ready...Did you say this is bone that you are feeding? Did they eat bone with this or just the meat?
@alissaz3 actually, their stools are firm, but they just cant seem to poop all of it out. when they push it looked like they are having a hard time pushing it out that's why they poop multiple times the other day, yesterday, and today. i do give them water, but they won't drink it unless they're thirsty.
@alissaz3 today i bought a whole turkey and let them share it. i didn't want to cut into pieces cause it's too much work so i just let them have the whole thing. it was the first time they ever share food. at first the shepherd was aggressive with the whole turkey, then i picked it up and let them each grab a side and then i let go and they split the turky in half. the pitbull got a big piece and ate it in the kennel. after he came out his stomach was huge, so let the shepherd ate it.
@j0hnxjxrambo this sounds like the best way to feed your dogs. no need to cut anything-look at those teeth. again, i will take a video and you can see all of my dogs, well 6 of them, eating together.
@j0hnxjxrambo Not only okay, but recommended. Make sure they are soy free-the bottle must state "No soy" or "soy free" and have no unneded extras. The pills for dogs are usually over-priced and contain a lot of species inappropriate ingredients. The one that I use, because it has the correct proportion of DHA's and EPA's, has no unneeded extras, is a great price, human grade, and soy free is: Country Life Ultra Omegas from Vitacost.com. This product is ONLY $10.82 for 120 softgels.
@j0hnxjxrambo I think salmon oil is higher grade (though some claim it has mercury in it) fish oil works the same, It gives people/dogs omega fatty acids which are great for hair/fur and hearts. Flaxseed oil or milled does the same, (cheaper too) I give both Fish oil and flaxseed to my dogs. Be cautious on how much you give them though, to much of anything good is bad. Also I'd buy both for human consumption in drug stores, I don't trust pet product sources not to mentioned its usually cheaper
damn dude your buddies are really overweighted it's true that raw meat has more proteins than regular commercial dog food but you'ññ seriously have to put some exercise to your chubby pals, i don't try to say this to criticize only as a review to the image of the little fella, anyway, take care, great dogs, and great jaws too
@loboxido Raw meat does not have more protein than regular commercial dog food. A dog food with 30% protein is much much more than giving your dog raw food. It is most likely for a dog to get "fat" from dog food than from eating real food. Check it out on the net...
so do you train your dogs with bits of raw meat or do you use regular dog treats? can you make a video of your dogs doing some obedience, tricks and stuff?
j0hnxjxrambo, yes we do use raw meat for tricks. raw, dehydrated treats are awesome too-you can take them more places. I will try to get a video soon-we are so slammed with work, but that is a good idea-i will see what i can do : )
@alissaz3 what if you just feed strictly prey models to your dog cause it has a combination of meat, bones, and organs so you don't have to feed each part separately.
my dad and brothers are deer and squirrel hunters. they eat most of the animal so the dogs don't get much. i'll ask one of my brother if he can save a deer carcass for the dogs this fall. oh and i live in appleton.
my dad and brothers are hunters. they go deer and squirrel hunting. my family eat most of everything from animals so the dogs don't get much of it. i'm okay with buying it. i'll have to ask one of my brother if he can save a deer carcass for the dogs this fall. oh and i live in Appleton. my oldest brother has a video on here recording the dogs playing. you can check it out by typing tyson and nitro playing so you can see if they are in good shape or whatever. the video was taken awhile ago so
i never check the sodium content. i'll check it when i buy some more. anyway, the chicken was soaked in chicken broth. i didn't want to wash it off cause i thought it was fine for them.
j0hnxjxrambo-even if you "wash it off" it is still injected. It actually causes digestive upset in many dogs. Have you checked to see if there are any raw-feeder co-ops in your area, or try to find free meat from hunters? There are a lot of sources and ways to get meat that is affordable, so that you don't just feed chicken. What city are you in?
the german shepherd is 71 lbs and i think the pitbull is 40 lbs. they each get two chicken quarter two times a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. the german shepherd is not overweight, but i don't know why the pitbull's stomach is always full. i can only afford chickens cause i get alot more. other animal parts are too expensive. their stool are firm unless they drink water too.
j0hnxjxrambo, first, before I get any deeper, what is the sodium content on the chicken? If it is more than 80 mg, then the chicken is enhanced (injected with sodium) which would cause excessive pooping. Let me know...
j0hnxjxrambo, they will poop less if you are feeding it correctly. For instance, what do they weigh and how much do you feed? One of the signs of overfeeding is "overpooping". They will only poop less if there is no "human error" involved. What do you feed? What are their stools like? I need more information and I can help you find a solution. Thanks, Alissa
I just dcided yesterday to go raw for my pug, seeing your babies enjoy their food so very much made me a bit emotional. I want to see my dog enjoy his food that much.
Your little one gave you a look like stay away from my bone. :o)
Aww. We have 4 dachshunds that eat raw as well and soon to get a rotti pup that will also eat raw. Glad to see your crew is doing well together and loving raw.
Dogs are carnivores. They have acidic stomach and short digestive tracts. You will notice, once your dog is on a raw diet that their feces does not smell, almost always firm unless you feed too much organ, and very small. Kibble fed dog feces is disgusting because it contains so much junk. Dogs have only ate kibble less than 100 years. They can't be evolved enough for kibble just yet...
I can't wait to switch my dog to raw. I swear, I might start him tonight. He LOVES raw food. Our ferrets are fed a raw diet and Bailey, our black and tan dachshund gets whatever they don't eat. This morning, he devoured some ground turkey. I really want him and the cats to be on a 100% raw diet. Thanks for posting the video. I might start Bailey on his and post my own vids. :)
i gave my brother's two puppies pork ribs. the older one ate the whole thing and the younger one just ate the meat. i think it's because his jaw is not strong enough yet to break the bone.
if you feed raw meat to a dog every day, won't that eventually have a really negative effect on their health?...
I don't know, maybe its just a mental thing for me, but I really don't want my dog to be ripping apart flesh and blood every day. Makes me think he's going to chew off my own arm at one point and turn on me. He is NOT a wolf.. he is a dog who has adapted beyond the means of being a carnivore...
They ARE wolves-digestively speaking. If your dog "turns on you" then you must be doing something provocative to him. Feeding a species appropriate diet is not something to fear. Educate yourself on kibble, the euthanized pets labeled as "meat by-product" would create more of a negative effect on their health. So this may just be a "mental thing" for you. As humans, we are known to have too many of those anyway. Dogs are bred for behaviors, not their digestive tract. That has not changed.
I don't want to have to respond to this, but for Lola I will. her stomach hangs because she was in a horrible breeding program-locked in a cage and bred over and over. her stomach will never go up. she is 50 lbs in this video, actually underweight according to the vet. we rescued her from TLAC. And Teddy, our dachshund is all MUSCLE. Don't doubt that.
Dogs are carnivores and have the same digestive tract as a wolf. They can combat bacteria that may be harmful to us due to the high acidic level in their digestive juices and their short digestive tracts. So, no you do not have to freeze it before feeding. Wolves have no freezers : )
i agree, good video but your doxie definitely looks overweight. he has no waist and he's very round in the back. i have a muscular doxie with clear muscles in his legs. i can't see any tone in your doxie but he does have a nice shiny coat.

Also I'd buy both for human consumption in drug stores, I don't trust pet product sources not to mentioned its usually cheaper

damn dude your buddies are really overweighted it's true that raw meat has more proteins than regular commercial dog food but you'ññ seriously have to put some exercise to your chubby pals, i don't try to say this to criticize only as a review to the image of the little fella, anyway, take care, great dogs, and great jaws too
loboxido 1 year ago
@loboxido Raw meat does not have more protein than regular commercial dog food. A dog food with 30% protein is much much more than giving your dog raw food. It is most likely for a dog to get "fat" from dog food than from eating real food. Check it out on the net...

so do you train your dogs with bits of raw meat or do you use regular dog treats? can you make a video of your dogs doing some obedience, tricks and stuff?
j0hnxjxrambo 1 year ago
j0hnxjxrambo, yes we do use raw meat for tricks. raw, dehydrated treats are awesome too-you can take them more places. I will try to get a video soon-we are so slammed with work, but that is a good idea-i will see what i can do : )

@alissaz3 what if you just feed strictly prey models to your dog cause it has a combination of meat, bones, and organs so you don't have to feed each part separately.
j0hnxjxrambo 1 year ago
@j0hnxjxrambo That is ideal!

my dad and brothers are deer and squirrel hunters. they eat most of the animal so the dogs don't get much. i'll ask one of my brother if he can save a deer carcass for the dogs this fall. oh and i live in appleton.
j0hnxjxrambo 1 year ago
j0hnxjxrambo yeah you should ask them! see what they have left over-there must be some parts that they don't want? the hoofs? haha

my dad and brothers are hunters. they go deer and squirrel hunting. my family eat most of everything from animals so the dogs don't get much of it. i'm okay with buying it. i'll have to ask one of my brother if he can save a deer carcass for the dogs this fall. oh and i live in Appleton. my oldest brother has a video on here recording the dogs playing. you can check it out by typing tyson and nitro playing so you can see if they are in good shape or whatever. the video was taken awhile ago so

i never check the sodium content. i'll check it when i buy some more. anyway, the chicken was soaked in chicken broth. i didn't want to wash it off cause i thought it was fine for them.
j0hnxjxrambo 1 year ago
j0hnxjxrambo-even if you "wash it off" it is still injected. It actually causes digestive upset in many dogs. Have you checked to see if there are any raw-feeder co-ops in your area, or try to find free meat from hunters? There are a lot of sources and ways to get meat that is affordable, so that you don't just feed chicken. What city are you in?

the german shepherd is 71 lbs and i think the pitbull is 40 lbs. they each get two chicken quarter two times a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. the german shepherd is not overweight, but i don't know why the pitbull's stomach is always full. i can only afford chickens cause i get alot more. other animal parts are too expensive. their stool are firm unless they drink water too.
j0hnxjxrambo 1 year ago
j0hnxjxrambo, first, before I get any deeper, what is the sodium content on the chicken? If it is more than 80 mg, then the chicken is enhanced (injected with sodium) which would cause excessive pooping. Let me know...
alissaz3 1 year ago
i thought dogs are supposed to poop less. our german shepherd and pitbull pooped more than three times a day. sometimes less only.
j0hnxjxrambo 1 year ago
j0hnxjxrambo, they will poop less if you are feeding it correctly.

We have 5 dogs now! They are all doing awesome on the diet! We just got a pit bull pup and he is 11 weeks and loving the diet! Good luck!
alissaz3 2 years ago

So did you start?

i gave my brother's two puppies pork ribs. the older one ate the whole thing and the younger one just ate the meat. i think it's because his jaw is not strong enough yet to break the bone.
j0hnxjxrambo 2 years ago
How old is the one who could not eat the bone?
alissaz3 2 years ago
i think he's 14 weeks now.
j0hnxjxrambo 2 years ago
Try some softer bones-chicken necks, backs, leg quarters...the calcium in the bone is important, so you don't want to skip that part.

if you feed raw meat to a dog every day, won't that eventually have a really negative effect on their health?...
I don't know, maybe its just a mental thing for me, but I really don't want my dog to be ripping apart flesh and blood every day. Makes me think he's going to chew off my own arm at one point and turn on me. He is NOT a wolf.. he is a dog who has adapted beyond the means of being a carnivore...
bayislove 2 years ago
They ARE wolves-digestively speaking. If your dog "turns on you" then you must be doing something provocative to him. Feeding a species appropriate diet is not something to fear. Educate yourself on kibble, the euthanized pets labeled as "meat by-product" would create more of a negative effect on their health. So this may just be a "mental thing" for you. As humans, we are known to have too many of those anyway. Dogs are bred for behaviors, not their digestive tract. That has not changed.
alissaz3 2 years ago
Your dogs are overweight!!! So they won't have a long life probably. You need to learn about portion control!!
claudiastrauss 2 years ago
I don't want to have to respond to this, but for Lola I will. her stomach hangs because she was in a horrible breeding program-locked in a cage and bred over and over. her stomach will never go up. she is 50 lbs in this video, actually underweight according to the vet. we rescued her from TLAC. And Teddy, our dachshund is all MUSCLE. Don't doubt that.
alissaz3 2 years ago
do you have to freeze some meat to kill any parasites and stuff in it?
j0hnxjxrambo 2 years ago
Dogs are carnivores and have the same digestive tract as a wolf. They can combat bacteria that may be harmful to us due to the high acidic level in their digestive juices and their short digestive tracts. So, no you do not have to freeze it before feeding. Wolves have no freezers : )

Hi, I have a question.
What do you mean when "she was going to be put down that day"?
I hope it doesn't mean what I think it means...
Thanks for the adorable upload!!

We rescued her the day that she was going to be euthanized.
