Mark Knopfler never decided to ban videos from concerts. Actually, he wants the audience to be allowed to record or film the concert. It's the arrangers of the concerts that says it is not allowed.
I spent many years loving this song. The recorded version, then old versions, even this new version. In my opinion, the greatest love song of all time. Married my lovely wife, and danced to this song.
This song holds a special place for me, and several great friends.
wrong. It is two people, reunited old-flames... When they first met and were starting out in the world, they knew what they were about (each other). Now, when he asks her once again 'you and me, babe... how about it?' She seems interested ("my boyfriend's back"), then scolds him for coming around and asks what he's going to do about his feelings. The chorus is our Romeo's pleas that she remember what was. That's the rest of the song too... an accounting of what they were and sacrificed
@ctedone Love songs usually suck. Lame.. boring. typical. But when you get the right love song, when the greatest of them all makes it, it becomes amazing.
Does anyone know who the other guitar player is (the guy on the strat)? OMG, that guy has AMAZING tone. this is a beautiful version of this song. MK is so wonderfully tasteful.
This was the song that introduced me to Dire Straits back in 1981. I love it as much now as I did then, and this is a brilliant version. Thank you poster:)
wow!..bam!bam!... dude...all I can say is bam! bam! ;)....this might sound uniform but who's this singer--knopfler? but now a fan...different sound then the Killers but wow! bam! bam!
Im with a girl and i have just started to fall in love with her. I feel for her how i feel about this song. I wish i could get my feelings across to her as well
Thanks for the video - This is really a great version of the song - Mark's in great form - one of the best "yearning" songs ever... I think he still means it!
I´m gonna see mark knopfler in madrid next week, n me and the guy i´m going with have been wondering if he plays a lot of his old dire straits stuff?? Not that we don´t like or appreciate his solo works, which i thoroughly enjoy too. But it would really be great to see him rocking with som tracks such as sultans of swing, tunnel of love, etc...
i agree with the audience applauding before the end, it really does ruin it...i hate that, i just want them to shut up and i want to listen to the end of the song, because that part is only like the best part!
i cant understand... why he change the original? couse original is better! hes not older i think... but will be im my heart forever ... dont do that whit your songs mark, i lov u and dire, but this version i cant feel anithing..and original thake me to a better place...
amazing...the audience ruins the end a bit though, I don't like the way they applaude before the song is finished. It destroyes the atmosphere at the end. But Mark is allways great
Hmm for sultans of swing it probably didn't add much but for Romeo and Juliet I think the slide guitars realy packed an emotional punch! but personal prefernce i guess.
Uuhhgg, I looked it up in my special 2disc edition (Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: private investigations special edition 2CD) which came with a booklet full of Mark Knopfler quotes and other members of the band, a guide through their career etc. and the official lyrics said: "Through the bars of a rhyme"
As great as this is, and it is great, Check out Monte Montgomery's cover of it. All by himself, no accompaniment. Mark would be as proud as Dylan was when Hendrix re-did "All Along the Watchtower.
Through the bars of a rhyme, i think. Man, this is a great version of the song. According to Marks official website, the DVD from the tour with emmylou is coming out in November and I feel like a child on christmas eve waiting for it.

This is strictly a one-way love song. He stalks her, she couldn't give a damn about him. Is that really how you see your relationship with your wife?
