We haven't come that far. Even though we would like to deny it the world hasn't changed all that much. Wars are waged, people die, people are born, time marches on. And in the end nothing is really all that different than it was before we came. If you look back through history you will be able to see how little things have actually changed. I'm not saying we should stop trying to change the world, make it a better place, I'm just saying we aren't very good at it. Someone fucks it up every time.

I don't think this song is literally about the end of the world. I think it's about what the world's population has really actually done for the better of man. It's just a message that if we continue to be selfish, we'll EVENTUALLY (could mean in 100000000 years) destroy the world. The "start of the end of the world", can be one day of many and technically speaking, everything begins to die the second it comes into life. Endings are inevitable- but we shouldn't worry ourselves with estimates.
