Oh I've heard of Guy Fawkes Day but I never knew it was called Firework Night. lol Guess I should have listened to the video more carefully last time and read the previous comments :)
The idea was to blow up Parliament, the Lords and maybe the King to cause turmoil. If you just blew up the King, parliament would have still restored order and run the country....unless you're trying to rewrite history Bevandao?
Yeah and why did he try to blow up the House Of Parliament ? The thing to do was to blow up the Houses of Parliament. In doing so, they would kill the King, maybe even the Prince of Wales, and the Members of Parliament who were making life difficult for the Catholics.
Sorry to prolong this, but to say it was just the king is factually incorrect. If you don't believe me - believe Wiki:
...Their aim was to displace Protestant rule by blowing up the Houses of Parliament while King James I and the entire Protestant, and even most of the Catholic, aristocracy and nobility were inside.
im sorry, but wikipeadia is a load of bullshit, half of the "facts" on there are incorect. the conspiritors waited until a time when the kind would be in the building- concequently making the KING the target. and if you dont believe that i suggest you go to the british library and check the origional documents, not wikipedia.
I only used Wiki as an example, the gunpowder plot is well documented elsewhere. But sod London's British Library - they stole the Lindisfarne Gospels from us and refuse to return them!
Like Lili said, wiki is very incorrect.besides it said while they "were inside" which goes against ur point. The King represented the country, so blwing him up was obviously the point of the attack!! would a building really do that much damage to the country?? lol. pointless argument really, but seriously, read a proper website before u have a go at us. ciaox
You've clearly missed my earlier point about wiki...and I never said it was about the building...maybe its you who should read before replying? I wasn't "having a go" at you, merely correcting your historical inaccuracy.
Hhaha, remember remember the fifth of November! I've heard the saying before, but never knew the significance. The fireworks were so pretty! Kind of like the fourth of July for the US (:
it doenst really mean that any more. remembering it was the protestants way of telling catholics to behave. personally i wish they has succeeded, james I was a prat. ~bella~
the 5th of november was important because on that day Guy Fawkes smuggled gunpowder into the cellers of the houses of parlimant and atempted to blow them up. every year we like to celebrate the fact he failed and was burnt at the stake... thats why we call it bonfire night... bonfire is short for bone-fire... people used to burn scarcrow like things on top of the fires, called guys, maby some people still do. its kind of depressing if you think too hard.... whatever, pretty lights!!! LOL
Great video! That's cool and omg I love the bg song! Open at the Close by Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls <3 I started a petition to get End of an Era to play at the end of DH2 during the credits.
Why you english people hate this Guy Fawkes so much ?

What exactly is firework night? Sorry I'm an American but I heard about it recently:)
HeatherE1985 1 year ago
Celebrating with fireworks kind of reminds me of the 4th of july( declaration of independents day.) in America!
sounds fun!

I saw this movie called 'V for Vendetta' and I absolutely loved Hugo Weaving's character which I think was inspired by Guy Fawkes.
Unlikely, but you should watch it incase you havent.
Cheers!

Which song is this? I really love it!

LiveLaughLovePotter 2 years ago
so to get this right...
1. The king was the target.
2. The king didn't die in the attack.
3. A celebration is held because he didn't die?
Also a question: Is this day more of a remembrance day, holiday or just a day everyone knows?

maybe UTD111 should listen more in history :)

My point was - it wasn't the king who ws the prime target........it's there in the history books if you care to check
UTD111 2 years ago
@UTD111 No, the King WAS the target. Blowing up a building would be qute shocking, but the King?! Hello?! x~Cissa~x

dulcemusic88 2 years ago
It's when the British celebrate killing Catholic traitors and the failure of the evil treasonous plot to blow up King and Parliament.
Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
