Yes, the Crypt is where 4 of the men (Valchik, Gabchik, Bublik and Hruby) committed suicide rather than be taken prisoner after their ammunition was finished. The other three brave men (Opalka, Kubis and Svarc) had been killed or fatally wounded in the firefight of the Church and balconies.
My Grandfather was a part of the team-Warrant officer Josef Bukacek-he was supposed to go out wih the team but broke his leg in a parachute jump. He retained some of the person effects of Josef Gabcik-I handed these in to the Czech embassy in London some years ago, He thought the team would have kept together if he had been there. He was invited back to treorganise the army post war, but said No. He attended the embassy on a number of occasions post war. He was an engineer.
I now have photos uploaded for anyone to view, from the camp in Dumfries, with Josef Gabcik, Adolph Opalka. Never seen publicly. Anyone want to see them just pm me.
Nice! I went to the same place to get footage for a short documentary I made about the assassination. Click on my screen name if you wanna check it out. (its called "Operation Anthropoid")
Yes I have seen your film clip. It was a very moving experience to visit the Church and I would like to go back again one day in the future. The bravery of these men must never be forgotten.
