There was a special Christmas adaptation of The Borrowers on BBC this year, didn't think much of it, it was like The Borrowers in the 21st century. Spiller on a motorcycle? Arrietty looking much older than 16, Mrs Driver knowing about them from the beginning...the Clocks didn't even seem to live under a clock....I know it was only an adaptation & that it tried to be different from the rest, but it was just boring! I'm getting this version on DVD soon, both series are on Amazon. =D
Woke up this morning, making tea and all of a sudden i started saying the borrowers...i remember watching this growing up in Fiji, never missed it, was great and fun to watch. And after 14yrs later am watching a clip of it. Bring back memories and friends that i use to watch with....ahhh the good old days!
I thought the Miyazaki film was really lacking. But that seems to happen whenever Miyazaki doesn't do his own material. Howl's Moving Caste had problems too. Sure, it looked wonderful and the music was beautiful but there were story points that made no sense.
So anyway, I'm here to watch this at the recommendation of my bff from the UK. :)
If you're a true fan of The Borrowers, get yourself to a cinema which is showing the new Studio Ghibli animated adaptation of The Borrowers called 'Arrietty'. It opened today in the UK (29th July 2011). Or if you read this post after the cinemas stop showing it, you will soon be able to pre-order the DVD or Blu-ray. It is absolutely fantastic, and transports the story to modern day Tokyo.
It brings tears to my eyes when I see the start of this movie. I can probably recite the first half an hour word for word as it was definitely my favourite movie and even now I still love it. I first started watching this on my rickety old video player back in 2001 when I was just 4 years old. Ever since then it has been a tradition to watch it at Christmas time. I am 14 now and I think I will continue to watch this until I am 114 (if I live that long). This film is amazing!
I finally got this movie on dvd! I love it! In all honesty though, they never actually borrow anything. they most definitely steal everything. when you borrow something youre supposed to return it, no? :P Still, this movie is really awesome and take me back to childhood for sure. :)
How many different versions of The Borrowers are there? It seems like some are with British actors and other versions with American actors. If anyone knows how many total versions and the years that each one was released please post.
wow i remember watching this as a kid in a TV cut, each episode ended with a cliffhanger and then it cut to the credit with a scary music. still was a great show back in the day and it still is.
yay Alex Winter is in here LOL i need this video lets see i have the bill and Teds most excllente colleshion i have death wish 3 i have th elost boys specil edishion i have freaked the sqeal o death i just need this!! LOL
I loved this version when it was on the telly! The characters are much more developed than the film (which was a disappointment- stick with the BBC!) I remember thinking Arriety was so beautiful, I wanted to look just like her :-)
Well, if you think Iron Man's even better than Spiderman 3, then you are living proof of the idiotic sheep who puts effects over storytelling ability. Judging by your over the top reaction too.
yahooo.. finally i found this. i watched this when i was 9-10ish in montreal in french.. it used to air on saturdays if im correct. yaaay im happy i found this now.. n im 21 now. lolz.
@rasa2407 lol i also used to watch this in montreal french as a kid at Canal Famille, the thing i remember the most is each episode ended with a cliffhanger and the credit theme started with a scary piano solo.
They're one and the same. It was a series here in the UK first and then obviously got edited into a film for the US. There wasn't an original movie until 1997 (unless there was an older before the 90s).
Thanks so much for uploading this!! I saw the second one on dvd this summer and it was soooo good. it made me all nostalgic for video cassettes and being seven years old.
i had read the book first in school and then i watched it wow... its been so long the last time i watched this was in 4th grade... loved both versions.. thatnks for the upload

This isn't a movie, anyway. This is the low budget BBC version from 1992. And Spiderman 3 was rubbish.
