being American, I can say I love the fanfare of soccer,the passion of the fans in the stands, but that's where it USUALLY ends. the game can get so fucking boring to watch on tv... I mean, i was watching games from the recent world cup, and one team was up 1 goal with about 25 minutes left, and the frieken announcers were saying the lead was insurmountable and the game was over. the lack of excitement on tv is what leads americans to dislike soccer... oh yeah, and the flops...

kindof funny that the non americans dont realize that the word "soccer" is actually a UK term for it not an american so technically the US is keeping with the original game. is was called Association Football then becamse asocca which evolved into soccer but still soccer/futbol/football whatever you call it, is still the greatest sport in the world why do the fans fight so much over the name, love the sport people

uh, can we please stop bitching about which sport is best? Especially if you haven't seen or been to any games of the sport you're insulting? EVERY sports has its pros and cons but its athletes deserve respect for what they do. I played American Football in high school and love it. But I still like soccer and rugby a lot. Rugby is hardcore, I'm considering playing for my college if i can get back into shape. Anyways, please stop arguing because all these sports are great in their own way.

American football and "soccer" (football) came from the same family of games that are hundreds of years old. There were many variations on the rules, and two games emerged in the US the mid 1800s. One allowed carrying of the ball, and one did not.
American football and regular football are both worthwhile and fun; you ignorant fucktards are neither.

As an American I have always wondered why the hell we call American football football. I mean what the hell is a "Soccer"? I personally think the most exciting traditional (as in not extreme or MMA) sport to watch is Hockey, but "soccer" is second it's just not on here a lot. To many stops in American Football, gets boring when they stand around as much as they play.

THE FACT IS... (real) football/soccer and rugby have been around for SOOO much longer than (american) football!
i DISLIKE that some american had to take a name that ALREADY existed and applied it to their "modified" game of rugby, leading to the original football being called soccer in this country
someone with a -new- sport should've come up with a NEW NAME or just said american rugby, which is a lot more suitable, imo

We wear padding because we don't want to end our careers in 2 years. I didn't know style was breaking ribs all the time or getting a concussion every time you get hit. Am. Football has a lot more people that aren't the same size. When I've watched rugby, all the players are roughly the same size. Some a little more muscular then others. In Am. Football you have 350+ Lbs guys hitting a 190 or 200 lbs person. Thats what the protection is for dumb ass. But to each his own I guess

If you have a prop that looks like a wing you have a problem. I play wing in rugby and I can tell you I can not play prop. it just wont work. And we are talking 350+ props against a 180 wing I take the tackle perform the ruck and get back up. no pads, nothing.

Rugby players careers don't end in 2 years...i know guys that have been playing 10-15 years and don't plan on stopping soon. Am. Football players stop playing after about 10 years, when they're in their late 30's early 40's, bunch of pussies!
