  • I have caught halibut all my life-one thing that is true is that the big ones dont taste nearly as good as the smaller ones, so why not let them go? A fish like this will produce thousands off offspring so why not harvest the smaller ones that are not yet sexually mature? I know its easier said than done but we all need to take some responsibility when it comes to conservation. There's a lot of videos on here of taking big fish but not many of letting them go. I'm just saying.....

  • crowdcor225 stfu honestly u werent there wen these guys caught this fish and u werent there wen they weighed the fish so stfu. That fish is a nice size halibut and i believe that its 170 cuz it looks like it would go 170 pounds so crowdcor225 just stfu and dont act like u know everything about this video -___-

  • if i were to bring a fish like that into a boat i would do like they do when ya catch a baracuda. either a spear. or a .44 might as well kill it before its on the boat dont ya think?

  • @TBWdracula2003 bro they did......u didnt hear the gunshot nd the fuckin rod that they shot it with right before they hit it with the gaff? open ur eyes bud

  • @Bbfishman im not talking about some little POP ohhh look at that. im talking about a .45 ACP

  • @TBWdracula2003 well you said "kill it before its on the boat" and they did exactly that

  • @Bbfishman they gave it a headache... thats all that they did. if you blow a 4 inch circle out of the head of that bastard you know its dead.

  • @TBWdracula2003 haha alright man.....i didnt look at ur profile before making a comment response. • @Bbfishman lol yeah ive got a pre 1964 model 70 winchester chambered in .300 H&H worth about 1100 bucks. i can put 5 rounds through a copenhagen lid at 350 yards. and for backup i have a .357 magnum and a .44 mag

  • Nice Fish

    dorschangler net

  • damn fishing in alaska is the best and to the moron who thinks that wasnt 170 you have obviously never fished for halibut before so before you go around giving that bs get your ass off the couch and fish for some

  • Wow

  • when people stab and shoot at halibut, are they aiming for their gills, or the brain?

  • I wasn't going to say anything because i like seeing nice fish caught. But charter sporties are like tow truckers. Basically leeches abusing a loophole in the fishery. Catch for sport or fish commercially. I don't even change course coming down the sport tack on the way to town.

  • oh how exciting!

  • Great Job Captain!!!!!!! Hope this years season is good!? Who knows what 2011 will bring!? Nice vid and job.

    Capt. Lance

  • Sweet Odin's Raven!

    That's enourmous.

  • Man, you guys have this system down pat!!! What is that thing you use for shooting... do you have to make contact before is fires or something>>??

    Great video!!

    Thanks for sharing

  • Definatly not a 170 pounder are u kidding.. That is probably around 105.

  • Are you joking? 105? That's easily 170.

  • no way in hell thats 170pounder how long was it? im a commercial fisherman just cuz your a charter boat captain doesnt mean u have to lie to get buisiness fuck tourists u guys are the reason we get screwed

  • hahah you guys are funny as shit... i was the guy who caught the fish....you dont think i would no how much it fuckin weighs. second of all you need to get your facts straight. just cause i make 5 times more money then you over a summer doesnt mean you need to be bitter about it. if we screw you so much then get a different job you pussy!

  • im a pussy ill be in kodiak in less than 2 weeks u make your way over there let me know on here and no way in hell u make 5 times as much as me im not a seiner

  • @lake0601 dude, STFU you tourist... You wouldn't have the balls to live in Alaska year round, you only come up in the summer. Second without the captains help, you proably wouldn't be able to catch a halibut to save your life... So stop with your gung-ho attitude. I'd like to see you commerical fish for a day faggot...

  • @crowdcor225 hahahah actually i am the captain of the boat and i have comercial fished out of homer for two seasons so dont start with me about that i cant do it...cause i have. and i was born and raised in soldotna alaska and i go off to college and come back to work every summer. ive been doing this for 8 years now so you can suck a dick when it comes to catching halibut. hahah so pretty much everything you ust said was a load of BS so get your facts straight and go fuck yourself!

  • @crowdcor225 hey if it wasnt for tourist and there dollars your sorry asses would be on welfare and stealing hubcaps for your crack, one halibut per boat per day,no exceptions,if you need a job that bad join the marines, they have a spot in iraq for whiney fisherman.

  • @lake0601 lol 5x0 is still zero you poor bastard, just look at your boat its a piece of shit, maybe if you got an education you could make more than 150k a year or whatever you make.

  • @winkiedinkielive dude 150k a year is pretty wealthy.

  • @rdrums89 for some i suppose

  • @lake0601 how much money do you make per summer ?

  • @flyingbansheedude I agree-maybe 70 pounds tops. Nice fish but I think that somebody got caught up in the "100 lb" exaggeration.....

  • @wunderbank you guys obviously dont know your fish, this halibut is over 150 pounds easy.

  • yeah probably was more like 60-90 pounds maybe, hard to tell. catchin keepers like those are pretty fun though. byt, people who bitch about catch and release big fish are the ones who have never caught big ones before.

  • you think this halibut was 60-90lbs? i sure hope not because im the captain of this boat and that is me shooting the fish...it was definalty 170 and that is actual weight...not the homer tape weight! sorry but your pretty far off! but yes it is very hard to convince a guy who spent 250$ to let a 100lb halibut go! that just isnt realistic...but sometimes does happen.

  • I sincerely hope that Alaska passes the proposed legislature for a one halibut retention limit for charter boats...

  • @crowdcor225 hahah well if you working in the charter industry then you wouldnt say that. it would totally kill all the halibut charters in the state and a lot of ppl come to alaska to halibut fish...so everyone would lose. think before you talk plz.

  • @lake0601 i hate whiny fisherman go join the marines, they will send you to iraq you can kill all you want and get paid for it to you big muscle bound halibut hunter.

  • @lake0601 the fish woundn't lose, humans are selfish because we think the world is ours to rule over but we are the first species to ever cause extinction and i hope one day they ban all commercial fishing and cut back tremendously on the amount of fish people are allowed to catch at least for a few years to allow fish to recuperate.

  • @lake0601 So what's wrong with killing the halibut fishing industry in the state of Alaska? If the populations are threatened, who gives a crap about some silly little charter fishing industry? Maybe it's time they stop relying on fish stocks that could be under threat in the first place.

  • @lake0601 the preservation of those creatures is definitely not a loss.

  • If that ever happens the charter industry up there will die,Think about it, Airfare r/t 900,hotel for a week .d/o 700, Car rental 600. charter trip for 4-5 days min 1300 per person and you think people are going up there to bring back 1 halibut. The want to be able to stock the freezer with fish and feel like it was worth the trip. You dont know what your saying

  • @crowdcor225 sorry guy sent comment to wrong guy, should of sent it to the crybaby lake0601

  • @crowdcor225

you obviously have NO clue how alaskan's roll

  • THAT WATER IS SOO CALM! oh man I wish I could have been there that day........

Where were you guys in the bay or like cook or something??

  • damn you didnt shoot that through the cheeks... thats the best eating

  • Sorry it makes you sad but please do through the big ones back so i can catch them, i know my family even if they didn't share with friends would love to have 100 pounds of fillets a year and they fall into the tourist category when they come for a visit.

  • only catch what you can eat . thats what i did enjoyed my fish for 4 months ... cost me more to ship than buy it.. but the enjoyment and the fact i knew how fresh it was.. was worth every penny...

  • mmmm was it tasty?

  • I live in Alaska and this kind of stuff makes me sad... 70-80% of your customers are tourists and summer fishermen. Why not give them two smaller halibut and turn the big ones lose? I release almost all of my big halibut and only keep the chicken halibut. What is a tourist going to do with 100lbs of halibut meat? I hope they pass the one halibut limit...

  • That is an awesome Halibut. Everyone should get to experiance that in their life time that is awesome.

  • you say you have the pictures of the biggest rack of fish in one day well let me ask was the total weight over 3000#? If not then you don't have the biggest.

  • nice fish!!!!

  • nice fish! im digging the double hook setup, nice work with the gaff as well. were you guys in cook inlet or seward?

  • our charter is Ninilchik Saltwater Charters...so we are in cook inlet... what company do you work for? and do you have any video's up?

  • Tim Berg's Alaskan Fishing Adventures in Seward. I also ran the Chewbacca one spring in Ninilchik. check out my vids

  • hahah you think that your 50lb fish was bigger then this one? im the captain of the boat in the video and i can assure you that it is not...and why would you shoot a 50lb fish? thats isnt that big!

  • i(15yrs old) fished a Halibut of around 50punds and look bigger and we kill it with a gun lolz.

  • Probably was not 50. Check your scale.

nice catch! How long did it take to land it?

  • yeah it was 45 punds, it took me like 30min..... since we were fishing abour 300feets and meh im 15 so... But i say looks bigger but maybee at real life this one looks much bigger. Was an awesome fight,
