This movie was simply..... amazing. I watched it at the theater in 3D yesterday, and wow... I've always loved this movie, and seeing it on the big screen was wonderful. I love the Beast's castle. It's so grand and immense and majestic. And my favourite character is the Beast. He's so funny in his own way. <3 I definitely recommend you watch the re-release!
If there is one scene I can't wait to see in 3D it is the ballroom dance. In my opinion that scene is one of the greatest moments of cinematographic magic. And to those who believe that re-releases are cheap copouts for Disney, phooie. Disney movies have enjoyed frequent re-releases throughout the companies history, it is only with the recent rise of technology that lets you own movies that re-releases became upopular. Personally, I love the chance to see some of my favorite films in theatre.
Personally I don't care that they're releasing it in 3D, I'm just super excited to get a chance to see such a classic animated movie in a real movie theatre as it was meant to be seen! If you don't like 3D then see the 2D version of it that I'm sure they'll be playing as well: problem solved :)
@SerenaRoberson It was actually WONDERFUL. It wasn't ShitD. It was really pretty. Same with The Lion King. I don't see how this is destroying it. They remastered the whole thing.
I just want to let you know that "Beauty and the Beast" will be re-releasing to theaters in 3D starting January 13th, 2012. It's going to be in the US after the "Diamond Edition" 3D Blu-Ray release last week along with "The Lion King". Besure to check it out. As I said once again, I'm not be getting the "Diamond Edition" ever again, as so does the 3D version.
@SerenaRoberson buuuuu they're not destroying it they're just showing it to us in a 3 rd dimension which means that if yesterday was beautiful x beautiful now it'll be beautiful x beautiful x beautiful.
I wear glasses and when I'm in the cinema watching a movie I wear the 3D glasses OVER my normal ones, I also do that with sunglasses. It looks normal. xD
Is this possible? 2d to 3d? Can someone explain this whole process? The original film was NEVER shot in dual cameras, even if it was, it would've been framed in one angle perspective, and very linear. So how are they doing this in 3d? Rotoscoping all active objects?
I have a method for "seeing" the movie in 3D without having to see it in theaters. (Note: Only works for Nintendo 3DS)
Take a screenshot from the video (like a scene from 0:17) by using print screen and paste it on GIMP or some other photo editor and save the image. Then insert the SD card included with the Nintendo 3DS into the computer and put the BatB image in there. Insert the SD card into the 3DS and you should be able to view the image per "Nintendo 3DS Camera" app... in 3D.
I, for one, hate the move to 3D in general. Not because I think its cheap, ruins movies, doesn't look good, etc etc.
It gives me a freaking headache! My eyes/head are extremely sensitive, and after an hour and a half of looking through those nasty glasses at skewed images, I've got some massive eye strain going on.
@DanBernard317 Um, not pointless? Its actually getting really hard to go to a movie thats NOT 3D, and I rather enjoy going to see movies. Also, my original comment was related to the video. >>
@rommie557 It's harder for me. I wear glasses and while I can see without them, it's not the same effect. And halfway through the movie, I realize I don't even need the 3D glasses because nothing is popping out. -_____-
I mean, fine they can do what they want, but GOOD 3D films have to be SHOT in 3D. If they just add it to something then, usually, it's crap. Unless Disney hires technical geniuses (and they have the money so I guess they can), then it might be difficult. -sigh- I just hope it's good. lol
To end all arguments here that in the next 25 years 3D will become the standard view in movies and television. but hey beauty and the beast in 3D sound great, I mean I would like to see the dancing scene in this dimension
uuugh!!! I hope they don't turn out making everything into 3D!!! soo they'll have it all the time, even on television. I don't know anyone who wants to wear some stupid glasses everytime they want to watch a good movie.
Honestly I think you guys are getting mixed up with 3D animation and 3D effects. This will be 3D effects, NOT CGI. For christ's sake, what's wrong with a film being 3D or Imax effect?? 3D has been going on for YEARS and it has worked with animation before so why are you so against it?? We don't want sequels to classics and not CGI animation but 3D effects should be exciting. Aren't you happy with ANYTHING Disney is trying to do??

@murdlok Have you seen it? They worked hard to make sure it doesn't look like cardboard cutouts by recreating the geometry in 3d and project the animated elements onto it.
@gmcubed no ia havent seen this version, but with no disrespect, i dont wanna see it now that you told me they recreated the whole geometry of it, is just not in the native master of the film, it was more acceptable a remake than transforming and distorting a 2d cel animation to give it volume, there are limits, but to disney maybe there's not, not even in our pockets
@murdlok to each his own, but I still think you owe it to yourself to see this. a lot of hard work went into this, and it's the first of its kind. I'm not really sure what kind of distortion your talking about either. It should look identical to the 2D version, linework and all, just in 3D. If nothing else I think you should see this as an experiment. If you don't like this then don't bother with the other movies they plan on doing. (the Lion King is next in line for 3D conversion)
@gmcubed i agree with u that a lot of work went on creating this, but my point is that a 2D classic is not the best option for 3D,i mean the backgrounds have more volume and detail than the characters themselves, they should've redone some sequences to detail more the shadows and facial expresions, but in my opinion the background of this scene pops more than it's cel animated characters, maybe is just another tryout of disney to rerelease this classics and as much money as posible. my opinion.
@blahbillo I'm 46 and male, so what's the problem? It was wonderful in 2D in 1992, and it's even more wonderful in 3D in 2010. Go see it and do yourself a favour. It's a beautiful digital print, too. The level of depth in some scenes was astounding, and the humour and charm are flawless.
Wait, Im confused. Ive seen no trailers nor TV spots for Beauty & the Beast 3D in theaters at all, & the only previews Ive seen for the Disney Diamond Edition DVD have been on other Disney DVDs Ive recently purchased(Snow White, etc). I know it'll be back on DVD in October. But when in theaters? I MUST see it!!
@DisneyClassicsFan No, that's only in NZ apparently.. the release date internationally is February 14th, but it isn't confirmed so don't count on that.
I saw 'Beauty and the Beast' 3D today at Hoyts Sylvia Park.
The opening sequence, song and dance numbers and multiplane camera moves are particularly striking in 3D. It is however the original film, no "Human Again", no new scenes, just the classic film we all know and love.
But 3D fan or not, if you love this movie (It is a top favourite with the Lion King for most people) then here's your chance to see it on a cinema screen again.
I'm keen to watch it again before the run finishes.
@the3gamersXD Ok, but you're wrong in only one thing: when you said that nowadays it's all about money.
Because for Disney, the Reception is what matters.
Look, The Princess and the Frog did not had a very big gross revenue, but since it recieved very positive critics, Disney promised that at least one 2D animated feature will be released every 2 years. (Take a look on The Princess and the Frog at Wikipedia)
I am very excited about this Disney's project (The Snow Queen is scheduled to 2013). Because it has people that worked in other great Disney animations:
Written by Linda Woolverton (B. and the Beast, Lion King)
Produced by Don Hahn (B. and the Beast, Lion King)
Score composer Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, B. and the Beast, Aladdin)
Directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan)
And it's planned to be 2D animated!
Btw, The S. Queen is a fairytale created by Hans Christian Andersen (The L. Mermaid)!
i think that it will be awesome and they need to release it in theaters again! i have been looking forward to this since when i first heard about it a couple years ago and was planning on seeing it dressed as belle in the yellow dress which i am working on right now ^_^ PLEASE RELEASE IN THEATERS... SOONER RATHER THAN LATER!!!
Wow what a disappointment. They made it looks like one of those trailers where you think the music'll stop & it'll be a live-action parody. Wow why do that?
i loved this movie as a child and i think that puting it in 3d would be a great idea. Puting this movie in 3D it doesn't take away from the movie but adds to it. the number 1 thing that i think would make this movie better are the state of the art graphics. i mean the original is good but the graphics could be better. and by remaking this movie it makes it all that much better.
@xenafan4634 graphics? there is one scene in this film that involves ,,graphics" and that is the ballroom scene, which is completely PERFECT the way it is. this movie is handdrawn animation, there are no graphics in it, except that one scene.
I like 2D animation and I like the idea of more 2D theatrical animted films, but I'm not supporting this shitty gimmicky crap. If Disney wants to make 2D movies with a 3D gimmick try a NEW movie, not literally rehash an older one.
It's just like when they tried to do Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. Fuck that I'm not supporting lazyness.
@karaandtaylor i can't argue the fact that Disney can do whatever they want with their intellectual properties. just that in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make sense to even have a 3D version of the movie to begin with. not a single aspect of the movie was animated with eventual 3D implementation in mind at the time of creation.
What difference does it make if its in 2D or 3D? The whole point of this is that its COMING BACK TO CINEMAS and I was not even born at 1992 and I missed my chance to see it in IMAX in 2002 so I am DYING to see this!!!
The users who're actually TRYING to talk down to this 3D release absolutely kill me. The ShoWest screening of the "Belle" sequence got an amazing response, and I'm sure Mr. Trousdale (Director) meant it when he said the film's looking great in 3D (believe it or not, I was fortunate enough to speak to him). You all swear this 3D look is the result of pushing a button on the computer; this takes time! Disney would not have wasted their time, for a strictly limited release, mind you, otherwise.
You guys are all freaking out for no reason. If you don't want to see it in 3D don't the Bluray will be out first anyway.
Second. It's disney. They aren't going to release this in 3D if it was gonna look crappy. They been working on it for a couple years now.
Third. Its already had select scenes shown in 3D to various groups. All of which loved it and said it looked great. So chill. This is my favorite movie. I think that it could look cool in 3D. Fresh way to view it.
lol, what's the point? Now everything will be turned to 3D until people are sick and tired of it (I am already, it's just great with some movies like avatar)...
@ajmrowland they can praise it all they want, it's their opinion which i can respect! :) i'm just holding onto my childhood and the memories of how i love to watch it!
sorry, i'm not quite sure where avatar comes into it!!
@hanz12234 Hey I grew up on originals and I kinda thought the same thing you said, but heck I think this will be pretty cool. I have yet to see a 3D movie but I think if its still our original movies then whats the problem? Nothing.
@hanz12234 thats your opinion, this time its for the children who were born to live in the new 3d era so they can relive the classic in the 3d era way so they can like it more and its not 3d animation, its 3d effects
@freshPrincess626 yes i did, and the conversion was brilliant (in part due to the fact that they were animations) -- but the best part is, now, along with the dvd releases coming out of the Disney vault, so too, we may get the 7year cinema rereleases
Eu quero muitttoooo assistir!!!

@DisneyClassicsFan No, that's only in NZ apparently.. the release date internationally is February 14th, but it isn't confirmed so don't count on that.

Has anyone said 'No one does 3D like Gaston' yet, or am I the first one to do it?
raccoonfan 1 year ago
I saw 'Beauty and the Beast' 3D today at Hoyts Sylvia Park.
The opening sequence, song and dance numbers and multiplane camera moves are particularly striking in 3D. It is however the original film, no "Human Again", no new scenes, just the classic film we all know and love.
But 3D fan or not, if you love this movie (It is a top favourite with the Lion King for most people) then here's your chance to see it on a cinema screen again.
I'm keen to watch it again before the run finishes.

Release a trailer for a 3d movie on a 3d capable website in 2D. Makes perfect sense.

@EA0825 It's out this week in Limited cinemas for limited sessions in Auckland, New Zealand.

@ApertureJam do you know when it's gonna come to the US?
EA0825 1 year ago
@EA0825 I read online that they wanted to release it for Valentines day 2011 but they may have pushed it back again unfortunately.
ApertureJam 1 year ago
@the3gamersXD Ok, but you're wrong in only one thing: when you said that nowadays it's all about money.
Because for Disney, the Reception is what matters.
Look, The Princess and the Frog did not had a very big gross revenue, but since it recieved very positive critics, Disney promised that at least one 2D animated feature will be released every 2 years. (Take a look on The Princess and the Frog at Wikipedia)
oopaulorafael 1 year ago
@the3gamersXD How did you know this? I think that the infos about The Snow Queen are not very sure... for a release, but neither for a shelve.
I think if Disney put the best efforts on The Snow Queen, it will be another masterpiece like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King.
oopaulorafael 1 year ago
How can you put a 2D movie into 3D?
BrawLuvr2 1 year ago
I am very excited about this Disney's project (The Snow Queen is scheduled to 2013). Because it has people that worked in other great Disney animations:
Written by Linda Woolverton (B. and the Beast, Lion King)
Produced by Don Hahn (B. and the Beast, Lion King)
Score composer Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, B. and the Beast, Aladdin)
Directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan)
And it's planned to be 2D animated!
Btw, The S. Queen is a fairytale created by Hans Christian Andersen (The L. Mermaid)!
oopaulorafael 1 year ago
The project has been scrapped (again). Disney decided to scrap it due to the lack of 3D TV's in homes. So don't be expecting it any time soon.

i think that it will be awesome and they need to release it in theaters again! i have been looking forward to this since when i first heard about it a couple years ago and was planning on seeing it dressed as belle in the yellow dress which i am working on right now ^_^ PLEASE RELEASE IN THEATERS... SOONER RATHER THAN LATER!!!

Wow what a disappointment. They made it looks like one of those trailers where you think the music'll stop & it'll be a live-action parody. Wow why do that?
JenovaExile 1 year ago
that and who watch's VHS's anymore?
xenafan4634 1 year ago
i loved this movie as a child and i think that puting it in 3d would be a great idea. Puting this movie in 3D it doesn't take away from the movie but adds to it. the number 1 thing that i think would make this movie better are the state of the art graphics. i mean the original is good but the graphics could be better. and by remaking this movie it makes it all that much better.
xenafan4634 1 year ago
@xenafan4634 graphics? there is one scene in this film that involves ,,graphics" and that is the ballroom scene, which is completely PERFECT the way it is. this movie is handdrawn animation, there are no graphics in it, except that one scene.
rgur90x 1 year ago
I like 2D animation and I like the idea of more 2D theatrical animted films, but I'm not supporting this shitty gimmicky crap. If Disney wants to make 2D movies with a 3D gimmick try a NEW movie, not literally rehash an older one.
It's just like when they tried to do Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. Fuck that I'm not supporting lazyness.

why can't it be 3d?? its still the greatly drawn graphics...just clear and in your face!
karaandtaylor 1 year ago 26
@karaandtaylor i can't argue the fact that Disney can do whatever they want with their intellectual properties. just that in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make sense to even have a 3D version of the movie to begin with. not a single aspect of the movie was animated with eventual 3D implementation in mind at the time of creation.

Ugh not like story shown in 3D.
Ugh like story told with rock and pointy stick.
3D not capture story's chest swell and eyewater like one Ugh tell with rock and stick.
Progress and experimentation big make pain inside Ugh's headbone.
When Ugh saw story told with shadow and fire, Ugh had to tell story with rock and stick louder and harder than before.

@moviencartoons2 only Lion King will be already out on blu-ray only recently when it happens.

There's no need for 3D. Alan Menken's music is in a different dimension already.

What difference does it make if its in 2D or 3D? The whole point of this is that its COMING BACK TO CINEMAS and I was not even born at 1992 and I missed my chance to see it in IMAX in 2002 so I am DYING to see this!!!

@MrCPugh2005 the movie is 1991. but yeah, that's the important part.

@hanz12234 Hey I grew up on originals and I kinda thought the same thing you said, but heck I think this will be pretty cool. I have yet to see a 3D movie but I think if its still our original movies then whats the problem? Nothing.
BrasilianJ 1 year ago
@hanz12234 I think it should be very nice to see an 2D animated feature in Digital 3D! I can't wait to watch B. and the Beast in Digital 3D!

@hanz12234 The best way to watch Disney classics!
crazy4sian 1 year ago
@hanz12234 thats your opinion, this time its for the children who were born to live in the new 3d era so they can relive the classic in the 3d era way so they can like it more and its not 3d animation, its 3d effects

@freshPrincess626 yes i did, and the conversion was brilliant (in part due to the fact that they were animations) -- but the best part is, now, along with the dvd releases coming out of the Disney vault, so too, we may get the 7year cinema rereleases
