  • And whats the point? They took the wings off of a plane....so? dumbasses. I dont know...call me an idiot...but if i had a plane Id leave the wings on.

  • Looks like a Beech catamaran. I want to see it fly.

  • Is fast like Russian bear.

  • "Hey pal, it's a no wake zone!"

  • and what happens when a wave comes?

  • @piranogu I thinks something like CRASH AND BURN, because it's a russian plane....

  • @elmardus the russians have been leading the way well and trully with these ekranoplans. They have been flying them since the 1960's with the rest of the world only just starting to catch up. That is catching up to where the soviet ekranoplan legend Rostislav Alexeyev started. No other country has yet flown anything close to the size of the KM. But thats probably cause they dont need/want to who knows but the Russian ekranoplan tech is right up there at the top

  • 凄いですね!

  • i shall not fly

  • is it able to fly?

  • @reykjavikc

only hovering several meters above waters

but thats enough to make it move very fast

  • @reykjavikc not very high. It relies on what's known as ground effects. Basically when close to the ground planes make a lot more lift. Because of this the size of the wings required to keep it just above the water is much smaller than for a normal aircraft to of that size to fly. This means it has less drag and therefore uses less fuel.

  • @CrayolaS7 So basically if you attempted to take this above ground effect, it would stall?

  • ive got one of them in my pond...

  • LAME, where's all the jet engines and Missile silos :P

  • Обидно за Россию до слез !

  • That was 8 seconds of my life I'm not getting back.

  • @monkeysize its ok your lifes not that intresting to begin with

  • это вроде глиссер обычный.....

  • big russian shit presented as space craft!..

  • Compared to the first Ekranoplans, that thing is an imposter. Ridiculous.

  • How about a video that lasts more than 7 seconds?

    EPIC video FAIL.

  • @RMBmike It was 8 seconds. So its a SCORE! LOL

  • not to be a butt..but... omg! imagine if they made one that could go even higher. one that wouldn't be limited to water :P oh wait...thats called an airplane right?

  • @evrolicious Not exactly an airplane as it can't fly out of the ground effect. But they can fly slightly higher.

  • haha noted the lenth of this video cause it is very james bond the whole idea of hovering 2 feet above the water

  • why NO flying air without a water

  • The idea behind this deign is to stay as close to the water as possible for efficiency. They do leave the water.

  • sucks to be a fish at the worong time at the worng place^^

  • Flippers last words were documented to be (translated from dolphin), "Hey guys, watch this backflip!"

  • i agree with you "cretaal"...its just too sad to see that ego has taken us so far,we just want to show who is more powerful but at the end nobody will win. we are gonna leave behind a world so destroyed... up in smoke, contaminated oceans, rivers, polluted air, radiated soil so nasty that we will wish never had done it to our own world...god forbids a third world war!!

  • HAH, i just poked a little hole in my logic. Humans are the only animals that attack with premeditated malicious intent. So our minds do corrupt us to the point of our wars being immoral compared to those of our animal bretheren. That underlying hatred is mans ultimate flaw in this aspect. So it looks like our intelligence comes at a high price

  • If you live in the woods and question morality so much, you must be okay

  • damn thats a fast truck!

  • *smacks mangoost114* Yes, this is an ekranoplan.

  • It looks like a Hydroplane with a Cessna body.

  • lol nice, i'd like to see it try on the sea with waves, i'm pretty sure it would break

  • Radar-schmadar!

    These things are still noisy.

    Let's talk SONAR!

  • Can Sonar detect something that glide over the water?

  • First of all get dry behind your ears before talking about arms & war, idiot..

  • russian ekranoplan ivolga

  • Это экраноплан "акваглайд", иволга производится другой фирмой.

  • @265Spike no, this is russian ecranoplan aquaglide 5.

  • 40% more efficient than plane

    Load-544 metric tons (world record)

    Stealth-radars can't see

    Speed- 450+km/h

And few build like a rockets carrier to hunt down US aircraft carriers

    Ultimately called "Aircraft carriers killers

  • this comment was copied from vaninec..... maricon.

  • you know when planes say they fly low, it means they're trying to avoid radar detection..., you really don't need to be a jerk if the guy makes a simple mistake...

  • What fly, its suppose to hover, over fairly smooth water it can avoid "roug waves" we rarely get reports of so far, only one or two partly ever filmed, avoiding them a lot faster than I thought wondering first about when remembering these vids. It has many advantages, i do architectonics for my own bus., many years, 1st place in NY by hand with no computer when out of tech school, promoting learn to draw like many more use to & promoting real estate, look enough ways & always find related data.

  • They can 'fly' too when the seas are rough, but it isn't flying as most airplanes do it, it is more like a jump

  • That was close.

  • saw them on James May's Big Ideas (BBC2) the transport one. They are epically brilliant.

  • The russians still got it! nice. I just watched the vid of the new german ekranoplan.. they were revving its guts out and... it wasnt flying

  • If you were watching this video..it is a Russian one.... watch?v=NpGacOmSeHc&feature=related

  • Looks like a hover craft with wings. An air boat hover craft with wings. Hmmm

  • flying the horizontal vertex of the water makes it difficult for enemy detection.

  • guy, you're so arrogant...

  • Burn, steal, rape and execute? Who is evil?

  • Завидуйте!!!!

  • i want that to go fishing lol

  • Yeah hang a net behind that and catch whales lol

  • CCCCCCOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • I'm thinking you'd want them to be able to fly balanced and reliably like normal planes for safety, but then can take advantage of economical cruising at low wave level. You could really optimise them for say 100-150km/h, still much quicker than a boat yet able to take advantage of economy at the slower speed.

Otherwise, you have to get really low to the water like this one, which gives a more compact design and probably takes more weight in calm conditions.

  • actually with 6 turbo engines they go to 400-500 km/h

  • The reason these planes, like Dirigibles, never became wildly popular is because of some serious design problems that are largely insurmountable. Dipping a wing into a wave at 200-300 mph will tear the side of the plane right off, and, as a result, kill everyone inside. This happened to one of the Soviet Eraknoplans, I believe with 200 people aboard. Research was shelved after that incident. On calm water, these would make great recreational vehicles, except for liability concerns.

  • Wrong. How do you think seaplanes land and takeoff?

One was damaged during crashlanding tests (no casualties, returned to base on its own) and one crashed with crew casualties due to severe pilot error during steep climb maneuver.

Ekranoplanes proved to be very stable on a range of low altitudes, they are very durable and safe.

  • Yay! The Xtreme Xplorer still exists! Didn't the USN and USMC express an interest in them?

  • It is a wig plane (wing in ground). Capable of high speeds using an air cusion between the craft and the ground/water. These craft are known to top out at 400kph and can maneuver large water swells by "jumping". Smaller vessels would make ideal assault speeders, as they can dodge most missiles. A mid-sized craft could even be equipped with a micro missile attachment. The only suicidal thing about these is the speed.

  • Oh wow, what an idea:

    Missile carring.. :(

Nothing else that those machines could do ? Ever thought about helping instead of killing ??

  • to war over territory and goods is mans inherent nature, no use in complaining. Humans come up with war machines all the time.

Dont look down on me for understanding human nature and urging it on. if it werent for war we wouldn't be as evolved as we are today, so please, drop your condescending attitude towards post made ages ago.

  • Comment removed

  • For sure , Cretaal.. ;o)

I guess that´sthe same that all the other dead warriors said in allthose wars before..

In fact I see in this only a justifying in going on killing (for whatever reason) in the future....

I am not looking down on you, do not get me wrong please, but saying that war "is the father of it all" or "being evolved as we are" (which is still to be proved..) is for me as scientific thinking human just a pain in the arse. I BUILD simmilar machines but NOT for the military...

  • you deny that war is the father of invention? Without war we wouldn't have the wheelbarrow. Think of how shitty our life would be without it. Simple inventions like that come from war. Everyday products we use were probably made as an advancement in military technology (for instance the fax machine: used to transport information securely from ships to base to etc.).

  • i do not believe that war is the father of invention, it merely helps to speed the process up. while some of the products that we use may have come directly from wartime spending (the computer i'm typing on), odds are that somebody already had the idea, and then the military expanded on it. ekranoplans WERE probably built by the military (it has the advantage of going fast but staying under radar) but i dont think it's the only thing they can be used for. rich people will buy anything these days

  • yes, it has other uses outside of the battlefield, but it's only practical use today is as a recreational vehicle or a more fuel efficient personal transport across oceans, lakes and seas. it's "under the radar" advantage is overshadowed by the favored stealth bombers. But on a side note i have to thank you. You are one the few people to debate with me on an equal and respective level without instigating aggression. You truly set yourself above the bar of mediocrity

  • but please, what would your suggestion be for a vehicle like this? Remember, whatever this thing carries must be able to go through harsh seas and withstand possible water damage.

  • +1 and

the war is comming veryt fast ... remember history , there were wars wars wars and wars again ... now is the longest period without wars ... its comming fast and you cant run away..

  • animals are at war all the time too, they just fight for things actually worth fighting for.

  • They fight for the same thing we do: to ensure that their race not only lives but flourishes. Territory, power, and resources are what we need to flourish, so those are what we war over, same as the animals. We as humans are more predictable and simple than we would like to believe.

  • not all of our wars are because of this, there have been many religious wars, hell even the nazi war wasnt because of anything you mentioned. Maybe youre the one simpler than you would like to believe.

  • so you proved that two cases contradict what i said.and i assume the religious war you are referring is the crusades, which was over the holy land. It was still a war of territory. And the nazis are one case that deviates from my general statement. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. And besides, the nazis were fighting for the arian race to flourish by eliminating a perceived threat to their culture. And maybe we can start attacking the ideas, not the people.

  • maybe i should have been more clear in saying that GENERALLY they fight for the same thing we do. So perhaps thats my fault for not being specific enough about my statement. But please, show a little respect to the individual. I havent directly assaulted you (hopefully). But in response to your statement, I AM part of humanity, so if my statement applies to all humans, even i would included in that "simple" comment. And generally, that statement holds true.

  • Hi there !

Havent been here some time I found out that iI have launched a base debate on the reasons of wars, geee, that was not my intention, sorry for this author of this nice article on small ecranoplans ;) !

In fact I just wanted to point out that these crafts would have been necessary in Louisiana or Indonesia or even Bangladesh ! And Creetal, sorry If I seemed rude to you (was not my intention) but that fatalistic thinking about the "god given" influence of military just freaks me out..

  • oh, then i am so sincerely sorry for being so abrasive myself. It's always hard to determine tones in text :p

Sometimes i receive large influxes of confrontation and i guess i just snapped a little. I hope you can forgive me. And trust me, i hate the idea of war, but it has its uses in a morbid light. I feel we fight by nature, but it's no god given right.

Again i couldn't apologize more for my attitude. Still trying to find myself and its a rough and stifling road.

  • Who knows. We set ourselves above the rest of the animal kingdom with our superior cognitive ability, maybe one day it will free us from the shackles of conflict. Also, i live in the woods so animal fights are commonplace.

Anyways, i hope we can put that haberdashery behind us and be friends :D

  • Hey Creetal !

oh yes let´s leave that behind, it leads to nothing.

And to be or to become friends, well, that´s the way to go anyway ;o) !!

One question Creetal: you live "in the woods" ?? Where ??

  • in the foothills of mt.rainier in washington state. I often sit on top of my waterfall and see what animals cross by ever since i saw two wolves fighting over a rabbit carcass.

Would've taken the dead wolves pelt if it wasn't washed downstream

  • Wow that´s awsome ! I read about the geological foldup in that region which created this landscape, must be impressive.. So you till have !wolves! there ???!!! I live in southern Germany and here they are mostly extinct in wilderness..

  • actually, i have several waterfalls in my woods (i call them my woods because i frequent them so much, but it belongs to the beasts in truth :D) that i like to visit. Great place to find the pacific yew i need for bows should i ever need to survive in the woods. But yeah, if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.

  • Pacific yaw must be perfect wood to build longbows with, has pretty long & strong fibres. You wouldn´t find that wood here where I live..;o)

  • @keeevan like humans.. animals kill for territory, jealouxy, and also without reason.. JUST LIKE HUMANS,, get of your high horse, and down here into the mud with the rest of us where you belong!

  • @Eqvaliser I prefer to stay above ground level, its boring down here.

  • 40% more efficient than plane

    Load-544 metric tons (world record)

    Stealth-radars can't see

    Speed- 450+km/h

    storms no problem

And few build like a rockets carrier to hunt down US aircraft carriers

    Ultimately called "Aircraft carriers killers

  • "storms no problem"?

I guess it'd have to be a rather small storm with very little crosswind. Let's see how it'd do in something like Hurricane Gilbert

    (200+ mph winds.

  • Storms were indeed a huge problem for these craft. And they light up a radar like a christmas tree. The whole "fly really low" trick only works on terrain. On the open sea, the radars are near sea level.

Oh well, more military wigs sank than didn't. It's a neat effect, but only useful for transport. Fighting in one would be suicidal.

  • yay, it didn't work!!

  • Looks about as much use as the 'New German Ekranoplan'.

  • It is a VERY noisy and fairly inefficent craft, built in 1982. 11 were built, none sold. Max flying height from the surface 300 mm

  • "Max flying height from the surface 300 mm" not true

    Check the spec. Dyslexic

  • It is a VERY noisy craft designed and built in 1982. Max height from the surface 300 mm.

  • Thanks for that Oo

  • It is

  • It uses WIG (wingin ground effect)

  • Чето не похоже на экраноплан =)

  • i agree?

  • экранопла́н

  • We already have hydroplanes.

  • It not a god damn hydroplane you ignorant arse

  • Wingless plane? or is it a sailless cat? or is it an oversized prop on an upside down outboard at the wrong end of a boat? I know it is an unsinkable sub.

  • Its half plane half boat

  • Seaplane's the word you're looking for

  • no, ground effect craft is the word he is looking for.

  • I am the author of an encyclopediac work on Russian ground-effect, seaplanes and flying boats from the origin to the year 2000. The above craft is one of the worst examples.

  • hahaha ur so funny...
