Christ mun all of your youtube comments being political! It's just a parody of The Great Escape. Go and get girlfriends and leave the comedy to those of us who are adult enough to enjoy it for what it is.
there was another one where there's a couple at the train station in the 1940s and as they're trying to say goodbye they keep getting interrupted by various ppl.... i.e. the lady with the novelty trumpet, a man selling gol gappay and another with tea.... n e one know where that one is i cnt seem 2 find it lol
Well I like this skit and I wish that the image was not as grainy or fuzz., I have played it for some of my Jewish friends here in the US, and at first they got all political, but when they realized it just a comedy skit they relaxed. Mel Brooks has made WWII parodies and made many a funny films as well.
To all you English, all I have to say is that don't for a single second think that we Indians won our independance from you via the exploits of that idiot ghandi. Delve deeper into the hidden history of your country and find out about the likes of Udam Singh, who took the fight directly to your country (Caxton Hall, London...the killing of General Dyer) and the bravery of our Azad Hind units who fought for Germany.
@gillyh2745 Yes, let's all praise people who engaged in borderline terrorism and chose to fight on the side of a mass murderer like Hitler. I am Indian, and I think Gandhi was the true father of our nation -- not communist/fascists like Udham Singh, Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose. Gandhi brought the people of India together, and he gave the poor of India a voice.
@adi87tya Tell me, how can you label the likes of the nation's heroes that you have stated as being fascists, considering that their actions alone really gave the British cause for concern. Their actions in reality were the starting points for the imperialistic countries to leave India in the first place. Fight fire with fire!. The only thing Gandhi was good for was to think that being a semi independant country, under the semi dominion status of a UK protectorate, was good enough. Get real!
@gillyh2745 The Hindustan Socialist Republican Party, of which Bhagat Singh was a member of, was not the source of Republicanism in the Independence Movement. It was younger members of the Congress party and others who were part of the struggle for independence. People like B.R Ambedkar who truly championed the cause of the poor.
@adi87tya Yes, indeed, Amedkar was a great hero, as afterall, our constitution was worded by him. However, the point which I'm trying to convey is that the doctrination of ahimsa (non violence),as forewarded by the followers of Gandhi, is totally pointless, in pre independance & post 1947 India. Our nation is only free now due to the might of our military as a defensive measure, which has guaranteed peace and has deterred any aggressor.
Sikhs fought in the North African, European and Asian campaigns. Many were captured during the early years of the war with Japan when Malaya and Singapore fell and many died in prisons in Singapore and Borneo from torture and diseases. Some were freed when the aussies re-captured Borneo and the Brits Singapore.
indians dressed as german soldiers (indians looked worried)...are from east germany (still the worried look) ...very... eeeast germany (much better and confident look at last) LOL!
^^^ Would everyone give it a rest? it's just comedy I don't see why every comedy sketch involving WW2 has to result in a serious discussion and arguments. It drives me mad.
The Nazis were pretty brutal, weren't they? Still, they were defeated. The Soviets were extremely resolute in dealing with internal dissent, and that is probably one of the causes that led to their decline as a superpower.
As much as people can be manipulated through sentiments like fear and hatred, they usually retain a desire to live at peace, and in freedom. The British are to be admired for their great contribution to science, philosophy, the arts etc., not for oppressing other nations.
@MrBradipo73 As much as I hate arguing on a comedy sketch show video... the British Empire HAS oppressed other nations. Most countries have, in their respective histories. But it doesn't matter what's been in the past, all that matters is that we change and fight for a better future.
@LadyEmilyElizabeth , it must have been a while since I commented and I've forgotten what I wrote. You're absolutely right, if I said anything different I was probably joking.
The Indus Valley Civilization, my ancestors?? They weren't brutal... But their influence was far beyond where your despicable empire went. And the Maratha Empire... U know, my great nation before u brits f*cked it up, we would win battles with odds like 50:1 (and thats an actual figure) not to mention that the enemy had cavalry and we had only light infantry. Until the split of the Empire... we whooped the British's ass (1st Anglo Maratha war)
Actually mate, if you research properly, the 'biggest' empire was the romans empire, the british was the most worldwide, and yea your right, the good people never win, like ghandi and his wish for british rulers to get out....
You are wrong, the British empire at it's height covered 1/3 of the land-mass of the populated globe..., far larger than the Roman empire. Additionally the British also had BY FAR the biggest navy so controlled the oceans, there has NEVER been a larger empire.
people chill out, it's just a comedy sketch -- and the facts are that Indians did fight for Britain on the Allied side in both wars...and also went to Nazi camps
as far as empire is concerned, it's hardly relevant today man....in today's world all countries are dependent on each other
typical a comedy sketch that was ment to be funny and not racist turns out to have a slagging match about who's c**k is bigger... everyone fought hense WORLD war and everyone had people die during the war.. now stop playing a game of my c**k is bigger than your and enjoy some fime comedy sketches
Actually 1995 Ferrari, get your facts straight. Firstly you are NOT Indian, so you are only initiated with what your English school boy history books have taught you. You English were the most despicable two faced people we came up against. We fought for you lot in 2 world wars and were told you can have freedom if you contributed. What was the outcome...you went back on your words. That's in the past now. We now have the 4th largest and best all volounteer military on earth. Think about that!
while your point is valid, remember that the Indian people who fought on both sides were almost all either forced to fight or fought with the promise of freedom for their land. In the end, the other nations, under British persuasion, betrayed them and they were deprived their freedom. So we did not save you, but remember that our sacrifice was real too.
well sure the main part but they had anyway the self-available help of the"mutual-sided"Chandra Bose(who on diferent periods if not on same liked the Nazis & the Soviets)...
In reality,if it wasn't for the largest volountary contribution of India's army during WW2 (nearly 2 million ), you brits would have been in POW camps of both the Germans & Japanese for a long time after 1945. You now have the nerve to say that you stood alone against tyranny and oppression, whereas if it wasn't for the intervention of commonwealth forces, you were nothing. The fall of Singapore in 1942 showed that didn't it?.
funny; i like ggm, it wasnt great, but i liked it. it wasn't meant to be exclusive to an british-asian - which no-one else had done before or since imho.
they're from my part of london as well so i can relate to some of their stuff generally a bit more closely.
anyway, i love this sketch and did you know that the guy who plays the senior officer (with the tash) is dave lamb (he did all the 'token white man' parts on ggm), who does the voiceover on "come dine with me"! :o)
