  • @MaddDogg81 go find the full episode, this pass here was the only one he used nos, rest was on motor, honda was given a half track lead and still lost to the trans am. civic had 625 hp and lost to a 475 hp muscle car, 575 on nos, everybody says that imports w/ less hp beats muscle cars, its the other way around.

  • @MaddDogg81 yea, whats funny with that is that the civic had 625 hp and needed lengths to a 475 hp trans am, the trans am used a 100 shot on that last pass because he lost 1st gear and had to leave in 2nd gear, that goes to show you that muscle beats import hands down.

It appears we have been told differing stories by each side. I would have been at the taping of the show but I was preparing for a big race myself and didnt have time to go with them.

Don't hate on Supras. These aren't the 90s where 1200whp supras are running 11s. Supras eat mustangs around the track as well. Bottom line, Mustangs are like tampons everybody has one.

I know you are going to talk shit about "They are cheap to mod" and shit but you sound just as bad as the Civic owners (i.e. ricers) that say that every time they lose. I don't hate on domestics or imports because I own both. The reason why Mustangs are still around is because they sell them for so cheap. They are the Honda Civic of the domestic world.

Oh and if Supras sucked butt why did they beat mustangs stock for stock every year they were both in existence? The older Mustangs were cheap ass cars that were garbage stock and got beat by Chevies and Imports stock for stock. Ford didn't make a good Mustang until the Terminator Cobra.

The truth is Japan isn't doing shit with the sports car market these days. Mitsubishi is broke as hell, Subaru isn't doing anything fancy, Mazda unfortunately isn't doing much at all, and Nissan can barely sell the 370Z. Ford and Chevy both offer 400+ bhp monsters that out-handle a lot of the Jap sports cars for the same money. America is back on top for performance.

  • @wasp010 The Supra is an outstanding car. There is a reason why its resale value is great and car enthusiast to this day still talk about them. Now as for Japanese cars on the performance market while I agree with you to some extent the Japanese are building cars an working well with performance. The R35 is getting a hp upgrade, weight reduction and better aero. The LF-A while overpriced is a high performance showing. Japan never wanted to be on top in performance.

  • @kageryu311 It was an outstanding car. Although extremely over-priced when it was new, the tech was very good with a very dependable engine (even more so with the transmission). However the fan base has ruined the car and a big majority of owners ruin the car by giving it stupid amounts of power and making it as agile as a battle ship.

    I love Porsche, but the price difference between the GT2 and a ZR1 just doesn't justify the extra few seconds for me. If I was rich maybe, but I'm not.

  • @wasp010 How was the Supra overpriced when it was new. In 1993 it was still cheaper than the Viper, the C4 ZR-1 and the 911 turbo and was about the same price as a base C4 vette but out performed it. I do agree many Supra owners make their cars straight line beasts but who can blame them when the cars make retarded power so easily. As far as the price we are talking about a Supra ($50k brand new in 1993) not an NSX ($90k Brand new in 93 with less power than a supra)

The Porsche GT2 RS just smashed the record for a production car on the nurburgring at 7:18 in a 6 cylinder and The Veyron Super Sport took the throne away from the ultimate Aero for fastest production car in the world. I'm not hating on American cars, I just hate the arrogance of American car owners and fanboys. (I know you own an RX-8)

  • @kageryu311 And for the average Joe (me) when I think sports cars I think of the $30K range. Sure the LF-A and GT2 are cool, but in reality I'll never be in the market for one. The 370Z is over-priced and too harsh and the RX8 is dated and isn't powerful enough to justify its handling compared to the competition. The Evo and STi are decent but would I take one over the 5.0 or the Camaro SS? Not a chance. They handle just as good/BETTER, have way more power, and better interiors.

  • @wasp010 As far as the GT2 RS vs the ZR1 the GT2s (base) outsell the ZR1 due to racing heritage and the overall respect that porsche has gained at roadcourses around the world. I agree with you on the Rx8 and partially on the 370z but the Evo and STi have always been solid performers and still offer things that the Camaro and Mustang can't, maily AWD. If you live in certain states those are better cars all around than the Camaro and mustang. I highly doubt the Camaro 5 can handle like an Evo

  • @kageryu311 The Camaro SS went through a slalom faster than an Evo X MR, and the 5.0 handles even better than the Camaro. AWD does not mean better handling; its a common misconception. AWD means better grip, which can lead to better handling depending on the suspension set up. The Camaro SS has a 4.5 link hydraulic rear suspension, very high tech, as well as better weight distribution than the Evo. Its not as impossible as some people would think.

  • @wasp010 I knew the new 2011 Mustang 5.0 was a good handler but I didn't think the Camaro 5 was. I need to check out some track times on fastestlaps. The Evo X and 2011 STis have a pretty strong showing on the tracks there.

  • @kageryu311 It depends which track you compare them on. An Evo will have an advantage with a slow and tight course, while the Camaro will do better on a long and sloping track. But yeah the Camaro does have exceptional handling considering it almost weighs 2 tons. The 5.0 has awesome handling. Not as great as my RX8 but there are few cars that handle as well as an RX8 anyway. Even though there was a drop in handling, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The 5.0 is a whole new breed.

  • @kageryu311 Also more people buy the Z06 over the ZR1 for a big reason: its way easier and way cheaper to build a Z06 to ZR1 specs than to buy a ZR1. My dad bought an 06 Z06 with 8K miles on it for $45K. A bigger cam, stronger valve springs, long tubes, high flow cats, cat-back, CAI, dyno tune, and all parts installed costed him $5K. His car put down 539 rwhp. Thats ZR1 power for half the ZR1's price, not to mention the Z06's more aggressive gear ratio's and suspension and higher redline.

  • @wasp010 I would think more people buy the Z06 because its cheaper and its a better car for road racing. As far as going FI (Twin turbo, Supercharger) I would go with a C5 Z06 or a base C6 (LS2, LS3) which you can get both in the $20-30k range and are better motors for boost than the LS7 (sorry to say its an awesome motor but its not a good FI motor). Thats JMO. If I had a C6 Z06 I would go straight N/A, no nitrous or a Paxton Novi blower on the stock bottom end.

  • @kageryu311 The LS7's cylinder walls are very thin, and while you can boost them, its very tricky and has a higher chance of damage than on something like an LS3. The C5 platform was very future-proof. Thats why a C5 Z06 will steal beat 95% of anything you see today, both on the street and track. They are very cheap to buy and even cheaper to upgrade. GM LS engines are amazing and IMO the best way of making good and cheap power.

There is a reason honda's don't have peformance engines. Its meant to go from point A to point B. A trans AM can corner, a Mustang can corner, Hell a front heavy over steering camaro can corner with the best of em. If by your experience you've never been able to corner an american car than you can't fuckin drive.

  • Jeff Gilbert's car was 9 second capable but came in with a 10.5 tune. It was supposed to be mid 10 cars. The Honda claimed 650hp. When Jeff drove the car he said with a more experienced driver the race would have been closer.

    That last run, Jeff had no second gear. Jeff overheated the trans waiting for Honda to stage.

    In the end Jeff sold the Honda back to him for $100. (I think a week later). Jeff's a class act. The Honda driver learned something and was only out $100.

  • @34D2234 so true man, when I would race my grandfathers 70 monte carlo ss, all the ricer boys here in tampa(about everybody but me) would always cry foul. The carlo was a 350, with new intake, maniflod, spark plugs and headers. It would eat the shit out of those hondas and eclipses.

  • I remember this episode.  From the beginning I had issue with this. I am a bit of a Honda guy, and I have fun tooling on Trans Ams and Mustangs, but these cars are not in the same class. The civic is a Compact Sport. Trans Am is a Muscle car. Race the Trans Am with a Supra, RX-7, Z, or Skyline and see how it goes then. Just saying.
