  • Great Idea but for an eight channel 64Gb kit of 2133 ram for the X79 boards, it costs roughly 1200 bones (that's two GTX 580's or 7990's and lunch) where as it costs 600 bones (one GTX 580 or 7990 and lunch) for a 32Gb kit of 2133 ram. Very expensive.

Here is a more practical question, how much performance can one get from a Ram Cache of 8 to 16Gbs as that's more common among systems and its a cheaper alternative.

    Bottom line, I want lunch.

  • can you do a step by step on how to set up ram cach.

    thaks

  • your vids are great but it sounds like you are in a tunel. LOL

  • wow.....those are insane speeds, and everyone complaining he didnt tell you how to enable it he said go to the forums and theres write ups, sorry you have to actually read and cant just watch a video

  • This video is USELESS. It fails to provide basic info such as how to setup caching and/or a RAM drive.

  • This video is utterly useless. Obviously RAM caching improves performance. The person speaking didn't answer BASIC questions: 1) How to enable RAM virtual drive / caching 2) What data and apps do users usual

  • How did they get 8 DIMM's stable without stressing the memory controller?

  • can you ramdisk like 4gbs to install a game like league of legends on a 16gb array on sandy bridge 1155?

  • hey jj can you tell me why my pc z68 is faster then yours i get 11911mb/s watch?v=ZQZAJWUCLeU

  • Hi JJ, love your vids. Can you make an in depth video about using the extra ram allotted? ie. creating a scratch disk, cache disk, ramm disk and when and how to use them. Also, what should the paging file be?

I've been searching forums and youtube for the best way to run photoshop using large picture files. I've come up empty handed.

    Thank you

  • hi can you help me I have P7H55-M-PRO-4GB ram ASUS brand 4GB Corsair XMS3 1600 2x 2GB mhz 1.65v see 2.3 as installed because I use a month I get an error windows can help me please I am from Honduras

  • @waseem

Its not lost when you shut down. The data is written to disk. A lot like putting your pc in hibernation. So worst case is you lose power mid session but you will have the data from your last good shutdown.

  • RAM is volatile memory. All that data will be lost once you shut down the system. feel like re installing all the frequently used aps on the RAM based drive every time you turn the computer on ? not me.

  • How is the performance if you use a RAM Cache with the mechanical HDD?

  • The numbers are just staggering when it comes to the RAM cache configuration XD from the miniscule 100 MB/s to over 5000 MB/s lol

  • Hi ASUS, Nice video. But would be so much nicer if your used something like Camtasia to do the screen capture & sound rather than a video camera.

  • Would it kill you to buy a lavalier mic?

  • @1r0nsn1p3r A potato can run Minecraft.

  • @corvey There's no doubt it can record audio as demonstrated in this video.

  • Every time i see this video, he gets fatter.

    Can't explain that.

  • Well, if you buy 32gb of DDR3, it will cost you much less than a 120gb ssd sata3 right? I dont see why to use ssds and ramcache instead of just ramcache..

  • @antonyace

Well for transfering for example, cache won't help really. SSDs are however still hell expensive, so agree that SSDs seems bit overrated now.

  • @antonyace a RAM Disk is different from RAM Cache, using the cache should be faster and should increase the lifespan of the SSD.

  • I have just entered the comp twitter name COBRA19870 hope I win lol I need a new motherboard. I have a very old asus CROSSHAIR AMD Socket AM2+/AM2 CPU:( its very old and I cannot afford a new motherboard I hope I win this way then I could have a better computer than my CROSSHAIR AMD Socket AM2+/AM2 CPU:( which needs a to be updated one problem is the price for new motherboard I cannot afford one I hope I win.

  • I am already using Asus SSD Caching with the P9X79 Pro Mobo....

2TB SATA 6G HD and a SATA 3 120 SSD--combined using your AI Suite II Utility

Could you combine a Standard RAM Cache as you describe in your forum post (using Super Cache) with an Asus SSD Caching setup??

    Possible??----Advantages??----Drawbacks??

  • Can you have your whole windows 7 install on a ramdisk if you have 64gb of ram?

  • I never heard of ramdisk/ram cache but its like a revelation to me.Asus is not the developer of this, that is totaly somebody else.I use the program supercache5 and that is great.

I got 4900 mb/s read and 2450 write with 10 GB memory with a X58 chipset. At the end of the month i am going to get the Asus Rampage 4,Core I7 3930K and 16GB ram.

  • @zpardos Why don't you enlighten the rest of us with how we would easily accomplish this, if you're going to joke about their product trying to make lives easier? I've personally used RAM disks for a while, but I've never seen RAM caching.

  • i got 6081 mb/sec read and 5045 mb/sec write.

    system = core i7 2600k m4e-z 16gig ddr 1600mhz gskill sniper

i used 8gig system caching and turned on lazy write at 15secs

  • Calling this a unique feature of the ASUS X79 is false advertising. This is a feature "exclusive" to any system with memory.

  • @zpardos

not sure how this is a top comment, if you had actually watched the video he does point out near the beginning that RAM caching has been around for some years.

Everyones a critic...., never an expert.

  • @zpardos the unique feature isn't the RAM Disk/Cache, it's the increased bandwidth/density support for the RAM, which increases the usefulness of the RAM disk/cache. The question I have is what kind of software is used for the RAMDisk? In my experience, using them in the past has been flaky with Win7x64, they'll work for a couple weeks then all of a sudden windows doesn't reconize the virtual drive and you lose everything (even when backing up to an actual HD).

  • @zpardos

This is a UNIQUE feature built into this motherboard that caches more efficiently and not with the overhead of some crappy software.

  • Those numbers are sick. I'm building a system on this platform next week and can't wait to edit video. Finally should be able to do near real-time editing.

  • Y U NO deinterlace the video.

  • So how long before ASUS creates a BIOS/UEFI that supports creating of ramdisks at the BIOS level?

  • @unforgivn81 I second this request....

  • Really nice info, but it would actually bin nice if FRAPS was used to record the video, instead of a video of a monitor.

Because now only the big text / numbers are readable now!

  • @michaelwesten

Thanks for the feedback we will consider other options as always time is the biggest consideration as recording using a screen capture method ( like Camtasia ) whould require additional editing. Regardless thanks for the feedback and the view and support.

  • @ASUSIlluminati

I done a video edit like the one i am talking about in about 5min, cant see time as a big problem.

But to be fair I have bin video editing a couple of times mixing sound and video, but if you done one or two times, you can do it again in the same time.

  • Google "Technical Review and Evaluation of RamDisk Plus Software"

  • cf. RamDisk Plus by SuperSpeed, LLC

  • I can not find the ROG Forums link on how to setup a RamDisk

    Can anyone give the link?

    Thanks

  • Still can not find in the forums where the "how to" is. Can you point out some links.tks

  • @TheNeoSC2

Check it out now under System Tweaking hope to have RamDisk up shortly as well but RamCache is already up. Thanks for the view and support.

  • Most people aren't aware that JJ is still an ASUS engineer. He has in depth experience that allows him to add end user perceptive. It's easy to talk tech or read from the box, but very few folks inform the users on how the new tech may benefit them. JJ can easily fill in the blanks. :)

  • @Kahnivorous

Thanks man appreciate the support and the view and glad you enjoy the detailing I know it is what i would be looking for if it was me watching the videos. Thanks!

  • JJ does the best unboxings I have seen from a Company he not only physically removes the box but he explains some basics about the product! This is an excellent format in my opinion.

  • @ajamison3

Thanks man i really appreciate that. Thanks for the support and the view.

  • So I bought this motherboard and built a near identical setup, tons of spare RAM available for a RAM cache and I have no idea how to set it up. I think I could figure out the RAM disk but I prefer to not have to install all of my software on a special "drive" in order to benefit from the speed. Can anyone point me to documentation for creating a RAM cache that JJ is referencing in the first half of the video. Thanks. Or if I am misunderstanfing the RAM disk, please enlighten me.

  • @icicle22a

Head over to our ROG Forums for information on how to setup a RamDisk. Thanks for the view and support.

  • JJ so with the Ramdisk can you do it on the old boards or not? I'm a heavy after effects user as well

awwww man I wish I was in America :( please do a worldwide or Australia Giveaway :(

  • @Chrisguitar95

Yes you can do a RamDisk on an older system assuming you have enough memory. You can check out our ROG Forums for more information on how to set it up. Thanks for the view and support.

  • Maybe I missed it in the video, but how do you store the data in the ramdisk? Do you write it on the hard disk before power down? Or do you keep writing on the hard disk on the fly? Even if it's the latter, there's a chance of data loss on a sudden power cut because the hard disk will take some time to catch up with the ramdisk.

  • @chinmaykai

The RAM DISK is an actual physical volume like a D drive that shows up and is installable. It uses a VHD image system when shutting down, rebooting or restarting so it is unloaded and loaded on the fly to your primary hard drive. This way you never lose the RamDisk. Check out our ROG Forums for more information. Thanks for the view and support.

  • i see VERTEX3 in AS-SSD no corsair force 3, finally ramdisks that are easy to install and somewhat affordable

  • @X41N3

Primary system was setup with Corsair SSD and Almost all benchmarks i believe in two of the early tests i used a standard Vertex 3. Essentially same performance as they both running latest Sandforce firmware and same capacity and same controller. Thanks for the view and support.

  • JJ From ASUS The Best Technology for Better Future Like it so much ^ ^

  • This is great. Any chance you can point us to how to setup a ram cache? I see all the benchmarks and benefits that you are showing but I am missing the "how to" actually do it. Since I just puchased the same exact board, I'd like to use the same tools that you do to setup and test a ram-cache and SSD caching.

    Thanks.

  • @icicle22a

Make sure to check out our ROG fourms the post will be going up shortly. Thanks for the view and support.

  • Guys start buying SSDs, i want them to get cheaper, so i can afford one too someday :D

  • @kamikazerus

I think everyone agress with that statement. Thanks for the view and support.

  • Holy speeds. Wonder what would happen if you used RAM Cache in conjunction with a RevoDrive 3 :O

  • @PlasmaSC

Hmm interesting will have to try that out. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the view and support.

  • thumbs up if paul somehow brought you here...

  • I feel I will buy 2 SSDs at X79 system.

  • @voodoodetective

That would be some awesome storage. Not as fast in some key aspects as a ramcache but you coul also have that work with the SSDs. Thanks for the view and support.

  • Can i combine Raid0 SSD + 8 gb ramcache on them?

  • @Nalfaren

Yes you can. Thanks for the view and support.

  • What ramdisk software is recommended?

  • I personally use Dataram RAMDisk for Windows. It's free, easy to use/setup and has been reliable.

  • @LordReserei01 thanks for the info

  • @j7x54

No problem. Thanks for the view and for the support.

  • No problem. Always happy to share.

  • I use ram disk everyday. I get even higher speeds. I have achived up in 10 000.

    I use Linux.

  • @MikalKD How would you play PC games on linux?

  • @jh3496 I don`t play much but when I do I use wine on Linux. I can then run Windows games and software in Linux.

  • @MikalKD I never even knew such a thing existed.

  • @jh3496

glad you saw something new. Thanks for the view and support.
