  • Rick I don't understand how you made the brush tool larger, your circle thing. I tried

  • @sweetiepie66ify Just press the Bracket Keys [ ] on your keyboard. They are right next to the letter P. The left Bracket Key makes your Brush smaller and the right Bracket Key makes it larger. If that doesn't work, try re-starting Elements. If it still doesn't work, let me know. Good luck! - Rick

  • Great info, thanks 👍

  • @LORDLANGERZ You're very welcome. Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • Rick, I find your videos very helpful and hope that you will keep up the good work! You have a wonderful way of helping us to work around photoshop! I have a question. Selection tool, you do selection and when we go 'overboard' we use the option key and click and drag (using Mac). I am having a hard time to get back to selecting after working the 'extras' away. It is these end-off key strokes that is killing me. Thanks for your time!

  • @ohappydeals If I understand correctly, after you clean-up your selection you still have more areas to select on that same image. Then you hold down the Shift Key and click once, and then you can let go of the Shift Key and continue selecting. The Shift Key allows you to add to a Selection. If you're adding on to the area you fixed, start your first click a little inside the Selection and work your way to the edge. Good luck! - Rick

  • Photoshop Elements is for editing photos. But Adobe makes another product called Premiere Elements which is for video. - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements Rick, thanks very much. I enjoyed the tube. I tried to follow the technique you used for blurring and then selectively deblurring. I can't make it work. I created a background layer and a mask. Selected a brush, ensured my color was black and tried removing the blur without success. Am I missing a step?

  • @The2soaringhearts Make sure you click on the thumbnail of the Layer Mask in your Layers Panel before brushing. Let me know if that works. Good luck! - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements I did check on the layer mask in the panel first. The info at the top of the image states it is my picture title@39.6% (Levels 1, Layer Mask/8). Still cannot get the brush to selectively remove blurring. My brush is set at 60 pixels, mode is in overlay, opacity is 45%.

  • I have a Newbie question, can I edit video with this too or just photos? Thanks!!!

  • So excited! I just got this for X-mas!

  • @breyerlvrsunited Awesome! I think you'll love it. - Rick

  • i. feel. bored.

  • get gimp, 90% of the stuff you just have seen can be made by gimp as easy like here x) for no money gg

  • this came with my tablet but i dont know what to use it for really.

  • Great video. Very calm delivery and interesting show and tell.

  • @mm61972gmail Thank you for the nice comment! - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements Yeah thanks for being calm, I just saw a tutorial of a guy talking like he's was on cocaine. lol

  • CAN you edit videos with photoshop elements 9? help.

  • @medleyaj01 No you can't edit videos with Photoshop Elements, but Adobe does make a relatively inexpensive program called Premiere Elements which is made for video editing.

    Good luck!

  • layer masks??? well...GIMP image editor does that...for free!

  • And magnifier?

  • What screen capture program do you use?

  • @dooftie I use Screenflow and I do the magnification after the video is made, also with Screenflow. - Rick

  • very good vid please make more

  • @anirban17aug Thank you so much! I definitely will make more. Adobe just announced the release of version 10 of Photoshop Elements! - Rick

  • Thank you!!! <3

  • @satyalotus0711 You're welcome, thanks for watching!

  • Deciding between Lightroom and this. Obviously Lightroom can't do what most of this can, but I love what it can do. Can I do a lot of what Lightroom can in PSElements in roundabout ways?

  • I just wish it has the one tool that matters to me, the pen tool.

  • @JXAChambers Yes, it would be nice if the Pen Tool was part of Elements. Maybe in the next version. Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • wow! i love this vid i never thought i woult find any program like this!

  • @MarlenkaVanDijk Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • i followed the steps (blurring the background)but when i got to the choose brush option to reveal part of the photo, it does nothing??

  • @cosmohead Check 2 things:

    1. - Make sure your Foreground Color is set to Black as shown in the video.

    2. - Before you start brushing click on the thumbnail of your Layer Mask in the Layers Panel to make sure that's what you're affecting. You'll know your Layer Mask is active because it will get a border around the four corners of the thumbnail of the Layer Mask.

Good luck and thanks for watching! - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements thanks you for your response

  • fuck!!! the mask tool is awesome!

  • add some requiem for a dream soundtrack this video...

  • With this program I can put a person in the picture if anyone know? Really need help.

  • @MsHanne90 Yes, you can add a person from one photo into another photo using Photoshop Elements. First you need to make a selection around the person. Then use the Move Tool to click and drag the person to the new photo. - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements could you make a tutorial on that too...lol I can't find those tools . Cx

  • Is it possible for me to GFX in this program?

  • I didn't understand a word because all this guy did was yell!

  • your voice is boring

  • Go to photoshopelementstips.blogspot.com and search for 3D text.

  • @EssentialPSElements ...Hello sir. I am a recent convert to digital photography after spending years refining my film and dark room skills. Admittedly I was reluctant initially but as I come to understand the new cameras I'm growing quite fond of this 'new' medium. The power of s/w like elements is simply amazing and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the excellent video and I'm now on my way to visit your site.

Thanks again for your excellent work!!

  • @Akileze You're welcome! I'm glad you're warming up to digital photography, it has many possibilities, especially when coupled with PS Elements. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Take care,

    Rick

  • the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does PSE9 have puppet wrap feature ?

  • @gagandhaliwal2007 No, unfortunately Photoshop Elements 9 does not have Puppet Warp. That's only in the full version of Photoshop. Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements can you do stuff like text and 3d text?

  • @kidsworldphoenix Here's a link to a tutorial on creating 3D Text with Photoshop Elements.

  • @kidsworldphoenix Go to photoshopelementstips.blogspot.com and search for 3D text.

  • @kidsworldphoenix Go to photoshopelementstips.blogspot.com/2010/04 and search for 3D text.

  • Where can I get Photoshop elements 9...?

  • @99futureboy mac app store

  • This helped me so much, thank you!

  • u the man

  • role on payday lol

  • can you teach us how to change color of the eyes like rainbow color in elements 9?

  • @kailazation Do you mean a single bright primary color like red or do you mean multi-colors in the same eye?

  • @EssentialPSElements multi-cloros in the same eye.,

thankyou for sharing videos i learned a lot it gets more interesting!.

and thanks for the reply,. watching all your video and try it all and i just did, it makes me happy haha,.

  • @EssentialPSElements can you do multi colour in each eye and if so how?

  • great video xxxx

  • @Davitt4life Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it! - Rick

  • great video!! I have been using Adobe Bridge for more 3 years now and I have never heard of organizer? Is that new?

  • @jackies35 The Organizer is new for the Mac version of Elements 9. In earlier versions the Windows operating systems shipped with the Organizer and the Mac OS shipped with Bridge. You can still keep the older versions of Elements on your Mac after you get PSE 9 and still use Bridge if you want.

  • Just wanted to thank you , I will use your tips in this viedo. I was very easy to understand. I have save it as one of my Favorites. I am going to search for more of your viedos. Thanks

  • @MsDhamer Thanks, I'm glad you found it useful. Thank you for watching. - Rick

  • whats the difference between pscs5 and elements??

  • @DeniiaLL Photoshop CS5 has some features that Elements doesn't. For instance I work for a printing company and we have to work in CMYK colorspace which Elements does not support. But Elements has more than enough sophistication for the home photographer and I would argue even enough for the professional photographer. And of course it costs about 6 times less. - Rick

  • Thanks for this video. Just the info I needed! :o)

  • @rikki32183 You're welcome. Thanks for watching. I'm glad it was helpful - Rick

  • Thanks for this video. Just the info I needed! :o)

  • omg, this is how the cia located WMD's in Iraq!

  • RICK PLEASE man /!!! is it possible to save the WATER mark and use it again fast...or put in multiplus pictures at same time??????????????? many thanks if u can answer that !!!!

    PSE9

  • I do not have content aware with the healing brush. Is it possible that feature is on the mac version and not PC?

Also when I apply a filter from the pallet bin I do not get a dialog box to adjust the filter. is there a solution? in ver 7 it automaticly poped up to adjust blur or a distortion.

  • @munciephotography Content Aware is definitely in both Mac and PC versions of Elements 9. But it's not with the Healing Brush, it's with the Spot Healing Brush which is nested with the Healing Brush (click and hold on the Healing Brush in the Toolbox to get to it).

In vers.9 you no longer get a Dialog Box when you apply a filter from the Effects Panel. It just apples a set amount. You have to go through the Filter Menu to get the Dialog Box. Not sure why they took that away. Good Luck - Rick

  • clear eye's, wow..........

  • uumm i think i will stick to the stuff i already know of pse 9.

  • whoever that grl is, she is ugly

  • Photoshop cs5 is made profesional editing

Photshop Elements 9 is made for simple editing

  • whats the difference between photoshop elements and cs 5 ?????????

  • You really sound excited about it! -_-

  • @manutd98989 I really am. They really added some nice features to version 9 of Elements. Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • @manutd98989 I was gonna write that! DAMN YOU FOR TAKING MY IDEA BEFORE I THOUGHT OF IT!

  • i have cs5 photoshop but wanted to know the difference between this and photoshop cs5? ... is it like a drastic difference becuase if this is a cheaper way to photoshop things i woudl rather do this .. i mostly just create backgrounds for my laptop and you the blur tool and fx tool to make transparent

  • @kjenki11 I think there's a very good possibility that you can do what you describe with Photoshop Elements. The best way to know is to download a free 30 day trial version and see for yourself.

If you go to my website and click on the link in the upper right corner that says "Details Here" it will show you how.

    Good luck - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements okay thanxz ... i will do some more research in that .. if i have cs5 would the adobe elements interfere with that program?

  • @kjenki11 It's no problem to have both Elements and CS5 on your computer.

    Good Luck - Rick

  • I didn't explain myself very well. I have a copy of the picture. I just don't know how I created the effect I ended up with. I have no idea what functions I used. So therefore I don't know what key words I could use to see if there is tutorial on it. I bet from now on, when I create something I really like, I will write down how I created it.

BTW my son talked me into buying this and I am so glad I did. Opened up a whole new world in regards to photography.

  • I really enjoy working with pse9. I have joined a group on the net where we take turns posting one of our pictures and everyone does their own thing to enhance and change as they want. My problem is I have found some effects that I really liked when I was messing around and now I can't duplicate it. I saved one picture I was messing with, but don't know how to search for it. Wish there was pictures somewhere that showed all the different fun effects. Over all elements 9 is fantastic.

  • @TigerByTheTail1 Joining a group is a great way to get yourself to explore the many possibilities with Elements.

Maybe you could set up a folder just for your projects you work on with your group and save all your photos to it. Then you'll know exactly where to find them.

Keep up the good work and good luck! - Rick

  • I am really struggling with the pse9 it would be nice to have a person standing over my shoulder to tell me what I am doing wrong. There are so many things on pse9 that don't work is every situation. Frustrating. I want to be really good at this. Thanks for your reply, Rick.

  • @marybellew Don't give up! Keep at it and you WILL get really good at it. It gets easier. I promise :-) - Rick

  • I love your video, but my photoshop elements 9 will not do this. I even played the video over and over and followed the instructions strictly, but no go. the layer mask will not erase. Help !! Never mind, I found that I have to set the mode to normal. Thanks,

  • @marybellew Glad you got it figured out. Way to go! Thanks for watching. - Rick

  • I love your video, but my photoshop elements 9 will not do this. I even played the video over and over and followed the instructions strictly, but no go. the layer mask will not erase. Help !!

  • Thanks for your time!

    Best tutorials!!!!EVER.

  • @eugenbrinzoiu You're welcome. Thank you so much! - Rick

  • I know this is probably a stupid question is it worth the extra money buying the elements 9 premier to also edit videos? I do like to make CDs with my pic but I'm a noob to photography since I switched over to DSLR equipment ( Nikon d5000 kit with sb600 flash and two extra lens 55mm-200mm telephoto and a macro 35mm). I have Sony Vegas movie maker hd 09 I just need to see if it will work with my Mac since I installed it in am old windows laptop.

    Thanks in advance.

  • @steve702 Hi - Nice camera setup! I wish I could help you with video advice but I don't know anything about Premier Elements, just Photoshop Elements. Good luck and thanks for watching - Rick

  • How do I duplicate my layer????

  • @Abafee Just drag the layer you want to duplicate onto the Create New Layer icon in the Layers Panel. Or go up to the Layers menu and choose Duplicate Layer… Good luck. - Rick

  • what program did u use to record the screen..plz tell me!!

  • @IssacNeon101 I use Screenflow. - Rick

  • would you recommend this ????? thanx

  • Great TUT but after scratching my head following your instructions I couldn't get it to work UNTIL I clicked on the actual layer mask and then it did. Just thought I'd add that

  • @Jindypops Aahh, sorry I didn't make that obvious. Way to get it figured out on your own! Thanks for watching. - Rick

  • this guy makes the video so depressing..

  • @Jav2020 Thanks for watching. Too bad you found me depressing. Cheer up! - Rick

  • @Jav2020 He sounds like the computer speaking, i wonder is it him who does the voice?!!!

  • @8tatts Wonder no more. I assure you it is me speaking. Maybe I'm hanging around my computer so much that I'm starting to sound like it ;^) Thanks for watching. - Rick

  • @Jav2020 rude!

  • @Jav2020

    How rude.

  • Hello, I've been trying to use my brush,I can't get the circle, I keep getting the crosshairs even after adjusting brush size. Any suggestions? Great video btw.

  • @fadusysko Check to see if you have Cap Locks turned on on your keyboard. Let me know if that works. Good luck! - Rick

  • @EssentialPSElements Yes the Cap lock was the problem.Thank You.

  • Thanks for the video. It was really helpful(:

  • @VoorheesMachete You're welcome! Thanks for watching. - Rick

  • Because this video is about the new features in Photoshop Elements 9 it would not work the same in Photoshop 5. You could probably get the same results but the technique to get the results would be different. Good luck. - Rick

  • due u can do this in photoshop 5.0

  • HELLO

with what program did you recorded you this video??

i have to know that pls write on my site ''GUANTURA''!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thx your guantura!

  • @GUANTURA I use Screenflow. - Rick

  • your tutorial is the best!!

  • @tara14kel Thank you! I'm glad you like them. - Rick

  • is photoshop elements 9 included in photoshop cs5 extended?

  • @MaqnusBl No, Photoshop CS5 Extended is the full version of Photoshop plus some added features that allows you to work with 3D and motion-based images.

Photoshop Elements is a completely separate program that has many of the features that Photoshop CS5 has.

    Hope that helps. - Rick

  • Thank you for course

  • @vashonn You're welcome. Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • Really like this video, you know your stuff

  • @soap4021 Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching. - Rick

  • the video is usefull!

But one thing can be made easier way. in ht echapter with the layer marks you painted the flower red again but you could do this in one step by pressing (A) and choosing an motive out of the list.

  • I loved your photoshops elements 9 overview; I have a new laptop may have to order the new version for it. Subbed you!

  • @SlapRackBang It would be an awesome addition to your new laptop! Thanks for watching and subscribing.

    Good luck. - Rick

  • would you say this is just for photos or woud it be good to use for coloring drawings and makeing comics?

and is it simple to use for most people?

  • @DeathDragonSparda I don't personally have experience with the drawing aspect of Elements, but go to Amazon and look for these 2 books:

Photoshop Elements 8 for Digital Art, Illustration & Cartoons by Chris Madden

Digital Expressions: Creating Digital Art with Adobe Photoshop Elements by Susan Tuttle

As far as being simple to use, I would say you need to spend a fair amount of time upfront but then it becomes very intuitive.

    Good Luck! - Rick

  • are yopu speaking from the grave god your voice is so boring

  • @PearTreePictures Ouch Dude, that was brutal!!! I've trained for years to develop my silky smooth voice. :-)

  • @EssentialPSElements Good Show, Old Boy. I was particularly grateful for your non-hyper-frenetic pace and shepherding voice. Thanks for this video. I'm new to PSE 9 (upgraded from 6), but have used the full Photoshop in the past and always froze up when I got to any mention of mask—I could not figure out what it was. Your gentle explanation makes me feel like I can make that feature useful to me. I am now a subscriber.

  • HI!!! how do you photoshop a picture of yourself to make your body look skinnier?!!

  • @ShubShubby

    Use the Liquify tool

But for some reason i can't find it, so if you somehow find where it is please message me back? :D

  • Can you make a GIF from a video in Elements 9?

  • I accidentally deleted my layer on the edit and am unsure how to get it back please help me!!!!

  • @TheKazShow1590 This will work if you still have the photo open in Elements and haven't saved it. Otherwise I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Go to the Window menu and make sure there's a checkmark next to Undo History. If there isn't click on Undo History and you'll see a checkmark appear and the Undo History Panel will be visible.

Now look through your list in the Panel and you should see one that says Delete Layer. Go to the line right above that and click on it. Your Layer should reappear.

  • @TheKazShow1590

    hahahah looool shame

  • thanks!

  • I just got this for Christmas and I love it :-)

  • HELP!!!! I am really new to this, but I can follow your steps on the flower to get the color to come out.... however when I go to paint it with black, instead of the color shining thru like yours does.. it just blurs it all.. please tell me what I could be doing wrong. thanks so much!! Kim

  • @knkuppy89 Hi Kim -Instead of using the Regular Brush to paint with you might have the Impressionist Brush selected. Go to your Brush in the Toolbox and click and hold your mouse button down.

You will see 4 different Brushes and their names. Make sure you have the one that's just named "Brush Tool" selected.

Also, BEFORE you paint with black make sure you click on the thumbnail of the actual Layer Mask in the Layers Panel.

    Thanks for watching! - Rick

  • hmmm your a genius!!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • @EssentialPSElements

hmmm your a genius!!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • Thanks for the tutorial!

    It helped alot..

What keys do you push on the keyboard to change the brush size?

  • @kmusicxx You're very welcome. I'm glad it helped. You can change brush size by pressing the left and right bracket keys. They are located next to the letter P on your keyboard. Right=Larger, Left=Smaller.

    Thanks for watching!

    Rick
