@aditsmith Because the shotgun is better to save for the fast moving ape monsters near the later part of the game aswell as the shot gun and bazooka should be saved for boss fights it's just more ammo conservative

:O you tried to save your progress sneaky way. At the end of 3rd part you have 6 ink ribbons and at the start of 4th only5 :)

I remember playing this scared and saving my progress at every possible typing machine. I was almost always out of Ink Ribbons.

Great walkthrough and I have had some very nostalgic moment watching these. I was 16 when I got my hands on this classic in 1996. Time flies but these classics never die. Many thanks!

I love this game, I like REmake but I don't like having to burn the zombies. Your already constrained enough, and adding a new type of zombie that runs and does more damage is bad... but cremating zombies with limited amount of gas? Course if ya can blow heads off that'll work too.

I was like that too when I watched my brother play this game. Lucky for me, I got over the RE fear and played RE Zero, and now can beat it in one day without a memory card! I had lots of close calls, but I made it, all the same. (Zero seemed easy to me now, though...RE5 was a challenge at the end). :D

Just watching this makes me wanna go and look for the original, and play it for myself...I miss the cheesy lines and crappy animation...it's what started RE after all! xD

in 2 you do need ribbons, 4 they changed a few things, including ink ribbons, and in 5 they did away with the typewriter save altogether, but up until that point, you needed ink ribbons.

they use nothing, it got an auto save everytime u complete a chapter *thank god* i personaly dont like the idea of using items to save, cause u might solve somethin really hard, go to save then...oh no i cant cause i have no ink ribbons, and now im getting kicked off....bugger >.>

In RE5? They created an auto-save option for the game, since it's on the 360 and PS3. So after you complete part of a chapter, the game will save... :)

Any items you collect will also save, and when you start that level back up, you can sell/buy new things...that's how I got lots of money in RE5 (which that is a new feature in the RE series, which was kinda strange, but...it helps the players). :D

You can take the broken shotgun and put it on the shotgun rack so the roof doesn't fall down. Do this when playing as Chris or alternate way to get it as Jill.

The broken shotgun is used to replace the normal shotgun on the wall. If Chris didn't replace it, he would've died in the next room thanks to the ceiling coming down on him. If Jill didn't replace it, Barry would've come to her rescue.

All in all, it's so that the ceiling doesn't come down on the player (especially Chris, who won't be saved). Phew...hope that helps. :)

In a sense, that's what made the game so hard. Besides figuring out the puzzles, you always had to worry about the ammo you had if you waste a lot and the zombies XD. I love replaying RE1 but I'm too lazy to go find it so I'm just watching others beat it XDD
