  • That dream was actually a film insert from the late 70's. I have it on an episode from Season 20.

  • I forgot, They reused this film in the episode where everyone had their dreams. It was from Season 27 (1995-1996) (The "Coming Soon On Sesame Street" Era) (Three years before Elmo's World).

  • Yeah...I bout a recent Sesame Street DVD for my lil boy....and soon found out kids today have no idea who Big Bird and other Sesame Street characters are....That is kinda sad. Growing up everyone knew all abouy all those muppets. Now i guess its all barney and Spongebob.

lol I'll still take Big Bird and the smurfs any day though

  • This video just made me happier than I've ever been in my entire life. I remember Barkley. I remember when children's television was quality.

  • The dream clip made me really sad when I was younger..

    maybe it was the music.

  • I am sure that it's the music. I know I have cried watching it as a child.

  • Awesome! Nice use of the Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde, too...quite fitting.

  • I remember this!

  • I got very nostalgic whilst watching this and a shed a few tears! I remember thinking Barkley was real as a child. He seemed so real.

  • I love this, four minutes of the sheer joy of watching a Muppet dog play with a frisbee.

When you watch Barkley, you forget he's a Muppet, he moves just like a real dog!

  • I LUV barkley too! He was so cute! One of my favorites!

  • Wow! How does Barkley work, anyway? That is pretty amazing... Anyone know of any behind-the-scenes videos that show how some of the larger muppets work? That would be so interesting!

  • Who'd want to wake up from that?

I remember seeing this in the late 80s, though I can't remember who woke Barkely up in the other version, either. I remember thinking how unusual it was, and seeing it now after probably 15 years, I think it's one of the most unusual things in their reportoire.

Shooting the dream in film was a good touch; it separates it from the video world of the street itself, even more than natural light, slow-motion, and overwhelming orchestra music already do. xD

  • Aww! I love Barkley. He's sooo cute and adorable! It's a shame he's not around these days. I miss that pooch.

  • yes who did his voice?

  • whatever happened to Barkley anyways? is he still an in-use Muppet?

  • It could be that they no longer had a puppeteer that could play the part right so they stopped making new episodes with him in it.

(I've heard he's stilla around just not as much).

  • So this episode and the film are several years apart???????

  • actually it is. this was the second version, but I can't remember who woke Barkley up in the first...at least not right now.

  • To my recollection, it was Maria who awoke Barkley in the original version. I could be wrong though, but I'm pretty sure it was Maria.

  • it was maria and bob

  • I love that dog..so cute.

  • I second on that one! I looove Barkley. Sad to say you don't see much of him these days. :(
