Nice light, I love that style too, I've got a 70 watt Metal Halide on the side of our shed in the back yard, and currently putting up a post that will hold a 100 watt metal halide fixture that looks like the one you have. Too bad no one in my family likes HPS, Makes the yard look like a parking lot my dad says.
I use the 35w Low Pressure Sodium lamp (LPS) for outside lighting, as they are the most energy efficient lighting but they take much longer to warm up starting off a pinkish red colour then changing to yellow colour.
@fiesta1117cc I've never actually seen a LPS light fixture. Are you from UK? they seem to be more common over there from the research I've done. here they're almost unheard of
@coolbluelights Yes im from the UK as for the LPS street lamps many are disappearing off the streets now weve still got a few where I live unfortunately if they break down i.e. ballast burns out or igniters fails they no longer repair them instead they replace it with either a HPS or MH lamp the road I live at got a mixture of street lamps Many astronomers want the LPS back on the streets because its easer to filter out the monochromic light from LPS lamps
Um , actually I don't leave these lights on all night, and I have cleaned up the yard. so STFU! the city I live near gives off enough light pollution anyway.
I like these High Pressure Sodium Lights because I like the way they warm up! First they flash a whitish color, then turn off-white and then turn a yellow color.
it looks as if thats a Lithonia Branded Fixture you have....i have one of those....High Pressure Sodium is just alright to me...i prefer a Mercury Vapor to all other HID Lamps mainly because of its Long Life and Reliability....but as Vwestlife said the Sale of these fixtures isnt active corosponding to the banning of mercury vapor ballasts in 2008....luckilly Probe Start Metal Halide Ballasts can opperate these Mercury Vapor Lamps.
Yeah well it's shaft driven to a gearbox that drives the belt driven mower deck, and the gears in the gearbox are stripped, I think it needs more work than I'm willing to put into it, I might make a video of it before I get rid of it
Martian death glow orange, I call it! I like the purple-white glow of metal halide bulbs better, but of course good ol' incandescent is best -- I found some 300-watt bulbs that are outstandingly bright.
Yeahh haha I used to hate the HPS lights but lately I've had a little obsession with them, I also like Merc Vap, you can still get them in some stores
I believe the sale of new MV fixtures has been banned, but you can still buy the bulbs. HPS can look much whiter with a fancy color-correcting lens, but almost nobody uses these due to the extra expense.
@vwestlife There is another type of lens I would like to get hold of although I dont know what its called Astronomers use them to block out the orange light from sodium lamps so they can see the stars much better but it only works well under Low Pressure Sodium Lamps LPS it makes them look a pinkish red colour as if they`ve just been turned on
Actually, I think that light is from Home Depot cause of where the sensor is. Lowes sells the one with the sensor in the corner.

yeah, that wiring is ghetto for sure. Why not just use knob and tube while you're at it?

This has been flagged as spam show
Then it must be a Utilitech brand since it came from Lowe's.

i actually probabbly would've put a metal halide or fluroescent there instead of hps because of the color

logster1203 8 months ago

Wouldn't a 75 watt CFL be just as bright? I'm not sure because I have a 400 watt high pressure sodium lamp.

@smithco995 Metalhalide and HPS are cutting edge lighting, much newer then halogen!

whats the mower deck from?
1944johndeerel 2 years ago
it's from the Bolens but it's in really bad shape, not really worth fixing
coolbluelights 2 years ago
if its not all rotted out and rusty! im sure some one would fix it! if its only got bad bearings it is fixable! i fixed up an old deck!
1944johndeerel 2 years ago
It's pretty rotted and the gears are stripped :P

they put gears in them? hmm! i thought only wheelhorse did on their earlier decks.

@vwestlife does the colour correcting lens Reduce the light output?
fiesta1117cc 1 year ago
@fiesta1117cc Any kind of tinted and/or frosted glass will reduce the light output, but most HPS lights are way too bright anyway.

holy crap that thing must have been expensive!
Good job installing that light though. That will sure brighten up the back yard nicely now!
I like how it warms up too, and how it starts off white then turns yellow hehe
Ah nothing wrong with being obscessed with outdoor lighting.
How the hell are you gonna see anything outside in the dark if there's no lights? lol
