We're talking about a man so talented that his animated features outsold and threatened the livelihood of the Walt Disney Company in the 1980s. He single-handedly curbed them toward their Renaissance and made them start trying again starting with The Little Mermaid. We owe him a hell of alot. Competition truly does bring out the best in creative minds.
I miss the old days when animation was handrawn and stop-motion. I could deal with CGI a bit more if it didn't completely take over. Forgetting the work of geniuses like Don Bluth and Ray Harryhausen is to forget what film's about entirely. This was one of my favorite games too.
@visara1313 Secret of NIMH was AMAZING! But I got bummed when Bluth started making the bad films in the 90s. How did the guy who created NIMH and Land Before Time sink to making Rock A Doodle and Troll in Central Park?
Don Bluth is an genious, and I really enjoyed Dragon's Lair. Especially when the game was released in 3-D for Gamecube. You do get that feeling of actually being in that castle and being part of the action. However getting those treasures were sometimes risky, as well. I somehow knew that a huge castle like that woud've had much more levels and room to explore. And even Space Ace was very futuristic and fun as well.
Amazing art, Don. I wouldve given anything to have seen this video in 96 when I had an art assignment on perspective. You did a perfect presentation on it. I should show this to art teachers.
Lets hope Princess and Frog dose well, all though im skeptical it will, its so hard to see movies that are rated A, i know your thinking whats A stand for, well its A for annoying. I personaly think Disney destroyed hand drawn animation by continually releasing movies that were so lame people just coundnt stand it anymore. But on the flip side parents need a movie to occupy there kid during the Christmas vaca, so its possible it could do well, lets hope so.
This video has made my day - this seems to be a dying art these days because of computer animation. It's unfortunate, and not just because you can't hang pixels on a wall!
Also keep in mind everyone use your visual conception before developing a image or character, seeing it before drawing it is a powerful advantage in any field of the creation process.
even for those who take drawing only as a hobby (me included) watching this is a pure delight, receiving small but important tips to somehow improve. Please keep it on!
Thats an amazing scene you drawn their, I am looking forward to more vidoes from you and I am also getting alot of help on building movement into my characters poses.
I would like also if its not to much trouble,to see what a real directers animation desk looks like.
I've never been one for hero worship - but I'll make an exception for Don Bluth. This artwork is timeless.

I can't believe how focused and disciplined he is with his lines, when I draw I scribble all over the place
