Anyone who blames this on the wings in the back, that is a false statement. The wing had nothing to do with it, as they also said after the Carl Edwards wreck because they did a wind tunnel test and there was on change in life as the car was turned around. The air going under the back end of the car and lifting it up and the pressure on the opposite side of the cars is what creates the lift to pick up the car from the ground. But if the roof flaps weren't there it would have been worse.
This is the race where Ryan Newman said the comments that he got fined for this year, that NASCAR deemed unsuitable for the sport but my gosh he went upside down and he's not having much fun flipping upside down either and crashing in these races the past year.

The reason the plates are on there to begin with is because of NASCAR's insurers wouldn't cover them unless the cars were slowed down. And none of the tracks in this economy can afford to tear down and rebuild an entire grandstand.

Hey, Racing is a dangerous occupation and the drivers know this, to be honest Dega is about the only race I watch, because you never know whats gonna happen. Its exciting. Nascar need to improve the car, not the track, Put a few more bars on the rollcage and redesign the back wing so it wont provide lift backwards or just go back to a regular spoiler not the wing. If somebody gets killed racing there, hey, like it or not, its part of racing. If you cannot handle it, dont watch it or dont race.

I think they tried to make it like " The Playoffs" with other sports. The problem is, all other playoffs sports,MLB, NBA,NFL, NHL, everyone starts at zero, and plays to win a series or one game at a time. I thought by now they would of changed the points system, during the chase, to reflect that but they didn't.
People love the track and the event.I love the track as well, but the smaller plate has made the race even more boring than before.Not one driver likes tha track.Back in the early 90's earheart loved it because his team spent a tonne on the Plate motors and whipped everyone's butt. Get rid of the plate, mandate smaller engines for the 2 plate tracks, or a taller ring gear,, problem partialy solved...

That's exactly what I was thinking when I heard about NASCAR's decision to change the restrictor plates to make the cars go slower. I don't see what they were thinking. They did this to avoid the big wrecks right? But how hard is it to realize, that when you make the cars go even slower, that allows the cars to race in an even tighter pack. And it's a no-brainer that a tight pack of cars leads to bigger and more frequent wrecks... they lost me on that decision.
you arent going to stop anything aerodynamic from flying. you can try to stop it but as soon as the body of these cars gets bent in anyway its going to catch air and fly. both blowovers in the cot there was damage to the back part of the racecar. plate racing is the best racing there is. besides dirt. where else do you get 43 cars within 2 seconds of eachother racing for position. no other track can provide that type of action. wrecks happen at any track and people can die at any track.

thats why inside the fuel tanks there is a rubber bladder. that fuel tank is gonna have to take a hell of a hit to explode. plus there is a halon system inside the car. oil fires and fuel fires are more likely from a front end impact from knocking fuel or oil pumps off. dale earnhart, kenny irwin, adam petty all drivers that died with the car never leaving the ground like this. Every driver knows what to expect when you go to Dega... if you don't like it, you don't have to race there! Have someone race for you! You are getting paid millions to do this after all... I agree with both sides. Drivers have every right to complain, but nothing comes out of complaining. They need to present ideas and feedback to NASCAR, instead of whining on the air. But this IS racing. Cars blowover at Dega, plain and simple. Safety is priority, and since 2001, everything has done it's job. Dega sells out for the great racing and the big wrecks. Nobody hopes for injuries. Martin's wreck was a rollover (traction), not a blowover (aero). Not much NASCAR can do about that.

Hey, Racing is a dangerous occupation and the drivers know this, to be honest Dega is about the only race I watch, because you never know whats gonna happen. Its exciting. Nascar need to improve the car, not the track, Put a few more bars on the rollcage and redesign the back wing so it wont provide lift backwards or just go back to a regular spoiler not the wing. If somebody gets killed racing there, hey, like it or not, its part of racing. If you cannot handle it, dont watch it or dont race.

say MLB went to a one game format and did away with series format...would that be spitting in the face of past champions?? and lets say the reason behind the change was money motivated. I think they tried to make it like " The Playoffs" with other sports. The problem is, all other playoffs sports,MLB, NBA,NFL, NHL, everyone starts at zero, and plays to win a series or one game at a time. I thought by now they would of changed the points system, during the chase, to reflect that but they didn't.

People love the track and the event.I love the track as well, but the smaller plate has made the race even more boring than before.Not one driver likes tha track.Back in the early 90's earheart loved it because his team spent a tonne on the Plate motors and whipped everyone's butt. Get rid of the plate, mandate smaller engines for the 2 plate tracks, or a taller ring gear,, problem partialy solved...

That's exactly what I was thinking when I heard about NASCAR's decision to change the restrictor plates to make the cars go slower. I don't see what they were thinking. They did this to avoid the big wrecks right? But how hard is it to realize, that when you make the cars go even slower, that allows the cars to race in an even tighter pack. And it's a no-brainer that a tight pack of cars leads to bigger and more frequent wrecks... they lost me on that decision.

you arent going to stop anything aerodynamic from flying. you can try to stop it but as soon as the body of these cars gets bent in anyway its going to catch air and fly. both blowovers in the cot there was damage to the back part of the racecar. plate racing is the best racing there is. besides dirt. where else do you get 43 cars within 2 seconds of eachother racing for position. no other track can provide that type of action. wrecks happen at any track and people can die at any track.

negative. i dont like seeing the wrecks. especially when both of my guys are in the wreck. i dont know where you get 75 percent of the race either. i was there maybe 25% of the race was single file. if those wrecks hadnt happened it would have made for a hell of a finish at the end. i think its smart to race single file at talladega and daytona. keeps everyone in the race and anyone can win at these tracks. thats what makes it the best racing. you never know who is going to win.

i dont watch racing for the wrecks. i watch racing to cheer for tony stewart and ryan newman and see a good finish. a good finish is what makes or breaks the race. unfortunately we didnt get to see a good finish at talladega but it happens sometimes. what makes it shitty is nascar not allowing these guys to race. thats where the single file racing came from. not because of plate racing

I know theres old times that agree with me, whatever happened to the good old days of racing with the likes of aj foyt, david pearsons, rick mears, mario andretti. Everytime these guys crash now they whine and cry about the track and the plates. Money has killed racing today, these are young men making alot of money that cant accept the risk of racing like the older generation. If they tear down the banks like i heard a few say i will never watch nascar again.

That is at speeds nearly 200 mph.Why aren't our cars and trucks on the roads not built that strong like the NASCAR and INDY cars.Take a look at the next time the drivers bump into each other by accident in the pits at 60 to 70 mph.If that was in a regular car or truck the driver would be crippled or dead.

Yea, they always happen, but they have been hapening way more often theyin recent years especially at Talladega. If they don't change something to keep this cars on the ground someone will die. What most people don't realize is if something as simple as Ryan Newman's car catching on fire he would have most likely died or seriously injured here. No way they get him out in time. If the back end of that car hit the wall intead of the front for example...game over.

thats why inside the fuel tanks there is a rubber bladder. that fuel tank is gonna have to take a hell of a hit to explode. plus there is a halon system inside the car. oil fires and fuel fires are more likely from a front end impact from knocking fuel or oil pumps off. dale earnhart, kenny irwin, adam petty all drivers that died with the car never leaving the ground like this. YOU CAN DIE AT ANY TRACK. HOW BOUT WE JUST BAN RACING ALTOGETHER. thats the only way to make racing safe.

That's the difference between a tough vet like Martin, and the newer pansies like Newman and Johnson. Every driver knows what to expect when you go to Dega... if you don't like it, you don't have to race there! Have someone race for you! You are getting paid millions to do this after all... The real issue is how stupid NASCAR was. They thought by slowing the cars down, wrecking would stop. I immediately realized... slower cars = tighter racing. End result: More wrecks/flips than before!

I thought Ryan was being ridiculous in his interview. Fans DO like seeing wrecks, it's a fun aspect of racing. We don't like seeing injuries of course. And NASCAR is doing a TON to make racing safer, I can't believe he'd whine about this sort of thing. Hey Ryan, cars have flipped at Dega/Daytona since DAY ONE... like Martin said in his interview about his car flipping: "It's just a wreck. I hope the fans enjoyed the show!".

I agree with both sides. Drivers have every right to complain, but nothing comes out of complaining. They need to present ideas and feedback to NASCAR, instead of whining on the air. But this IS racing. Cars blowover at Dega, plain and simple. Safety is priority, and since 2001, everything has done it's job. Dega sells out for the great racing and the big wrecks. Nobody hopes for injuries. Martin's wreck was a rollover (traction), not a blowover (aero). Not much NASCAR can do about that.
