Totally idolised Frank most of my 47 years, the stones and the Beatles shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as well as many other so called big bands, that's what they were just rock / pop bands.Frank was a true genius , nuff said

Why is it tasteless to walk on top of a gravesite?
The person's fucking DEAD. Who gives a shit? I'm almost positive Zappa wouldn't give a damn whether or not people step on his gravesite. He went through life without caring what people thought of him, anyway. He even told Alice Cooper to stop defending his music against dissenters and telling him his opinion on the issue: "Either they get it or they don't. That's it."
i'm guessing he didn't really care about headstones or people stepping on his grave but likely also didn't want a bunch of pathetic souls spray painting all over the cemetery as they do in paris around jim morrison's grave.
nobody needs to be retarted to get where Frank Zappa was coming from, he beleived in the arts, and find his archive with the senate,he was just so for real, honest and sober, i have been a fan for years, and followed him and his true beleifs and you should too! do your homework and you would find many truths,
john lennon didn't figure frank (rightly). but then sometime's,i think we're all off when we compare beatles to stones (as if) it's the last fucking issue in music.
Maybe he's not dead.He lives whenever his name is said or he is discussed. Some nameless person from 500 years ago,now THAT"S dead. Those people at the grave are tasteless ghouls.
@craigswoodle Nope, merely stating fact, you can't call someone a retard for walking on an unmarked grave which may/may not be there, besides what difference would it make, they're dead. I'm pretty sure without noticing it, you've walked over a place of burial. Also "you're retarded", "fucking retards", change the fucking tune a bit mate, you can't talk about having respect when you're going round calling everyone retarded, useless dickhead.
@fodorski i think he was trying to avoid walking over the graves themselves. its a bit less disrespectful to walk on stone with someones name on it than it is to walk over top of their corpse
Frank Zappa cared deeply about a lot of things. But all of them are no longer important in our culture. Originality. Integrity. Honesty. Who cares? We worship conformity, narcissism, and hypocrisy, and reward them with our blood, our treasure, and our lives. Be Seeing You!

He didn't want to be remembered. See one of his last interviews from 1993 on the Today Show, it's here on YT. I imagine him saying 'fuck a tombstone, just bury me!'
Franks sense of humor in the after life, Ha. Although a musical head stone you could play would have been awesome. He always was researching new sounds and his mind never rested. Just a really interesting person with his custom strangeness influence many of us. I remember trying to understand Frank in the 70's, now I view him as a kind of musical mad scientist, who mixed strange concoctions.
Frank started a new band and is doing shows. Got one of the best horn players involved, Miles Davis. Has James Brown doing some vocals on Zomby Woof when he has time... admission is quite costly though. Miss ya Frank
" I know he's there in the control room now, listening to everything I say, but I really don't care...Hello, Frank Zappa"... whispered on "We're Only In It For The Money"
In one of his last interviews, FZ was asked how he wanted to be remembered. He said that it wasn't important. It's good to see a man who is true to his word to the end and beyond. G-d bless you, Frank Zappa.
frankly put, this is exactly how FZ would want it done, no hoopla or wasted money on a headstone that is not necessary...I like the idea. Again, it shows that Frank was always ahead of his time.
@BEANUSEXTREME Heh I am English !!!!!!!! Zappa brought a loy of meaning my life with his music..I would of liked to have seen ZAPPA play live.So all you americans are the lucky ones! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His wife chose not to have a headstone so that it wouldn't be stolen or desecrated. What goes on at the grave of Jim Morrison & some other stars made for this decision & I sort of have mixed feelings, but I take comfort in my belief that Frank isn't "there" anyways, like a butterfly released from a cocoon, he had been freed from his sick body. I hope he will forever rest in peace & the best way to remember him is to listen to his music!
What a great idea. A headstone shows only where the remains of his body are, and that's not Zappa. He is his music, his ideas and his commentary (tons of it on Youtube), his books, the memories of his fans (I saw him at least 6 times), his loving family...

@tiki2188 Thats bullshit , they were just curious , if it did not matter to Frank why does it matter to you.? uh huh, see he's dead, nobody disrespected anybody, Graves get visitors, not something to fight over. Petty fighting over nothing...man oh man. If he was so concerned why did he not get cremated and thrown in the can? See ,life is never black and white. If Zappa saw this he might say "Why are you people fighting over me? I'm not even there anymore. Go create your own problems"
He was asked in '93 how he wished to be remembered, and he basically said he doesn't care about being remembered. He was just not that pretentious. He was a TRUE artist, just doing art - not trying to be "somebody". This is what i loved about Frank. And that's why his kids are not trying to be all famous and immortal in his footsteps. They know the difference between being real famous, and just being real.
Thanks. Please repeat my message, cuz he has helped SO many people find integrity in their lives (and yes, i actually knew him for a little while, so i've seen it first hand). The statement he made could change the sleazy face of fame to something less plastic, ESPECIALLY politicians, if they would just LEARN from his example.
I was expecting this unique/really out there headstone..and then we get-nothing. I should of figured ...as amazing as this man was, I couldnt never quite figure him out in life & is still fascinating in death.
wana c the next ZAPPA, check out mattrach just 18 and over 40+ originals with him playing all instruments, a true musical genius, and great guitar player, he has more subs than many of your fav. big time artist, check him out u will see why, hes brillint, and a musician in the same vain as frank!
A virtuoso is not a bad thing. By all means a great guitarist, like Zappa's friend Steve Vai. but being a solo guitarist doesn't make you a brilliant musician. Zappa added more than just guitars drums bass and vocals to his shit.
matt has over 40 originals with him writting and playing all instruments, editing, and recording cool videos for the music, all from his bedroom in a small village in northern france, you need to listen to his work, to appreciate his musical gift, hes not just a great guitar player, time will tell, im far older than you and have seen much more than you have to base an educated opinion on! hes a ledgend at 18, hell be a meistro by the time hes 25!
just because he can write and play several instruments as well as do editing does not make him a musical genius. I have heard some of Mattrach's stuff, and it is pretty good. but hardly comparable to Zappa or Dylan or other so called geniuses of modern music.
I would say maybe he or his family didn't want a grave marker because they didn't want to deal with the idea of people having parties n fans having the picture being taken at the burial site of their loved one...
No head stone Very interesting i understand he was part Arab i also understand Muslims are not supposed to have a head stones, most do but i have been to Medina in Saudi and some very important historical people have no headstone also, its interesting because somone mabe a comment on a zapper youtube, that he was a jew, maybe he just did not want people to make a mockery of a graveyard by going around smoking shit and getting out of their heads, i think its very peacful at his greave.
The groundskeeper was Frank. I'm not going to read the rest of these comments to see if anyone else caught it, but how could one miss it? Oh, the fun we have in the afterlife playing roles upon the Earth...suckers.
During our research more than one source indicated where he was. But, in the end, how can we be 100% sure that any of them are actually there? Just have to trust that people are giving us the right information, I guess.
The reason people go to people's gravesites is out of respect and love, and there's nothing wrong with it. It doesn't do the dead any good, it's just something we do. Now, let's just mellow out and watch the video. And sorry Frank, but we can NEVER forget you.
Cameraman is a moron. Got a zoom feature in that camera? Maybe you could have zoomed in so we could see the name and marking on his marker? Jeeeez, how de we even know it was the grave for God's sake.
The commentor is a moron... Zappa is buried with NO HEADSTONE, they even mention it in the video, what good would zoom do? Film the ants in the grass?
I've been there, he's buried next to Lew Ayres the actor.
The reluctance for a headstone was a good idea after the way Jim Morrison's headstone has been abused and replaced countless times in the past 30+ years.
May Frank Zappa Live Forever in the minds and hearts of future generations through the wizardry of YouTube, and the InterNet for that matter,Rest in Peace Franky,he always played the Pauly Pavillion UCLA, practically every New Years Eve in L.A.
i like Frank and i like AC/DC. Both are amazing, and some of Angus's solos are mind numbing. you gotta give credit where credit is due....hes good at what he does. So was Frank..........i just hate how ppl compare artists.
Yeah, true. I hate to compare artists, but c'mon. Zappa, and AC/DC? Angus is NOWHERE near the true virtuosity of Zappa. To compare him to Zappa is pretty stupid.
Well, samceh, I just said I hate to compare artists. I didn't say I'm not going to compare them. So I didn't contradict myself. And the fact that you called me a "mong??" makes you sound like a douchebag.
Frank did not want to be remembered on his second to last interview on Today Show 1993, he said a memorium was a thing for a guy who was full of himself. He didn't want to be remembered...just forgotten.
He didn't say he wanted to be forgotten. He said he didn't care if people remembered him. With each generation passing, more and more people will not have even known him. A majority of us have not met Zappa or know what he is like. We just have interviews of people who knew him and old videos to look back on. We do not miss him, we just miss what he did for us. There's only two things left to do. Listen to him, his music, and pass it onto the next generation. Thanks Frank for everything!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
here's a statement: get a life and stop walking over other people headstones to takes pics of the grass. I bet Frank was laughing at you 2 losers the whole time.
Here's another statement: Stop making snap judgments of people and resorting to childish namecalling. And, by the way, mathematical whiz kid, there were four of us all together including the groundskeeper.
Do you not understand why graveyards are here? If nobody wanted to go back and reflect, there wouldn't be any need for graveyards. I don't think it's right to call them losers, I would have been doing the same thing, I saw where Charles Dickens & Charles Darwin were buried... yeah, didn't look too exciting, but there was a really great thing going through my head when I was standing above the graves.
It's weird, I came to this link to see the burial plot as well, and I wonder why I am. It's just a piece of ground, looking no different than any other piece of maintained lawn, except for the fact that a very special person is buried there.
The person says to "...get a life and stop walking over other people headstones (sic) to take pics of the grass..." The same person who went to youtube and clicked on this link and watched the video too.
Grave visiting is really a reflective activity. You image the person who is below, the way they were, maybe the way they are now. It's very much emotional and imaginative that's why people without imagination or heart cannot understand.
frank zappa, the pentultimate self taught, curious, obsessed, never afraid to tell the fucking truth, kinda guy, that loved and created some of the best music of all composers to date encompassing all genres into a cohesive musical sensibility. the world has been a much worse place without him. i was lucky to meet and speek to him twice. he was a wise man.

wana c the next ZAPPA, check out mattrach just 18 and over 40+ originals with him playing all instruments, a true musical genius, and great guitar player, he has more subs than many of your fav. big time artist, check him out u will see why, hes brillint, and a musician in the same vain as frank!
KSFALLGUY 2 years ago
Mattrach is just a virtuoso. Zappa redefined fucking music. fuck off
MegadragondethZ 2 years ago
lol, just a virtuoso? hes redefinning music for his generation, his latest song albinonis ghost is somthing frank would have loved!
KSFALLGUY 2 years ago
A virtuoso is not a bad thing. By all means a great guitarist, like Zappa's friend Steve Vai. but being a solo guitarist doesn't make you a brilliant musician. Zappa added more than just guitars drums bass and vocals to his shit.
MegadragondethZ 2 years ago 3
matt has over 40 originals with him writting and playing all instruments, editing, and recording cool videos for the music, all from his bedroom in a small village in northern france, you need to listen to his work, to appreciate his musical gift, hes not just a great guitar player, time will tell, im far older than you and have seen much more than you have to base an educated opinion on! hes a ledgend at 18, hell be a meistro by the time hes 25!
KSFALLGUY 2 years ago
just because he can write and play several instruments as well as do editing does not make him a musical genius. I have heard some of Mattrach's stuff, and it is pretty good. but hardly comparable to Zappa or Dylan or other so called geniuses of modern music.
MegadragondethZ 2 years ago
after your comment i checked out mattrach
what a pile of piss
nothing like zappa

I would say maybe he or his family didn't want a grave marker because they didn't want to deal with the idea of people having parties n fans having the picture being taken at the burial site of their loved one...

No head stone Very interesting i understand he was part Arab i also understand Muslims are not supposed to have a head stones, most do but i have been to Medina in Saudi and some very important historical people have no headstone also, its interesting because somone mabe a comment on a zapper youtube, that he was a jew, maybe he just did not want people to make a mockery of a graveyard by going around smoking shit and getting out of their heads, i think its very peacful at his greave.
davidbahar 2 years ago
yeah,frank was actually part italian/arab/greek/turkish.
Watch the midnight express movie again.the prosecutor looked like zappas fraternal brother and he was turkish!!

The groundskeeper was Frank. I'm not going to read the rest of these comments to see if anyone else caught it, but how could one miss it? Oh, the fun we have in the afterlife playing roles upon the Earth...suckers.

If there is no headstone, how can you know for sure that he's there?
BiblicalReader 2 years ago
During our research more than one source indicated where he was. But, in the end, how can we be 100% sure that any of them are actually there? Just have to trust that people are giving us the right information, I guess.
death2ur 2 years ago
why did he want to be buried with no grave stone? its wierd! even for him!
seoulman101 2 years ago
look i'm all for visiting the dead out of respect, but i saw two of you guys filming just walking all over other poeples graves
have a little respect for others....EVEN IF THIER NOT FAMOUS
winchell2 2 years ago 2
The reason people go to people's gravesites is out of respect and love, and there's nothing wrong with it. It doesn't do the dead any good, it's just something we do. Now, let's just mellow out and watch the video. And sorry Frank, but we can NEVER forget you.
pazzensutra 2 years ago 2
Well said. Cemeteries are indeed for the living. I think Frank knew that he was going to be remembered for a long time.

So was Frank..........i just hate how ppl compare artists.
guitarlad89 3 years ago
Yeah, true. I hate to compare artists, but c'mon. Zappa, and AC/DC? Angus is NOWHERE near the true virtuosity of Zappa. To compare him to Zappa is pretty stupid.
Hockeyevan9992 3 years ago 2
hey, zappa went for virtuosity....angus just goes to rock.... so u cant really compare them.......if it sounds good, then that's good enough for me.
guitarlad89 3 years ago 5
way to contradict yourself hockeyevan, you just compared artists you fucking mong.
samceh 3 years ago
Well, samceh, I just said I hate to compare artists. I didn't say I'm not going to compare them. So I didn't contradict myself. And the fact that you called me a "mong??" makes you sound like a douchebag.
Hockeyevan9992 3 years ago 2
Mong is English for douchebag you spactard

Uhh cool. I'm not from England, so I would have no way of knowing. Spactard? Alright, now I think your just making things up.

Frank did not want to be remembered on his second to last interview on Today Show 1993, he said a memorium was a thing for a guy who was full of himself. He didn't want to be remembered...just forgotten.
andrewman12 3 years ago
I understand how he felt, but I'm afraid that man will be remembered for a long, long time.
Maybe one day his fans will see him again... maybe not. He was a hell of a person.
spartaeus 3 years ago
He didn't say he wanted to be forgotten. He said he didn't care if people remembered him. With each generation passing, more and more people will not have even known him. A majority of us have not met Zappa or know what he is like. We just have interviews of people who knew him and old videos to look back on. We do not miss him, we just miss what he did for us. There's only two things left to do. Listen to him, his music, and pass it onto the next generation. Thanks Frank for everything!
Poenk 3 years ago 7

here's a statement: get a life and stop walking over other people headstones to takes pics of the grass. I bet Frank was laughing at you 2 losers the whole time.
usulkane 3 years ago
Here's another statement: Stop making snap judgments of people and resorting to childish namecalling. And, by the way, mathematical whiz kid, there were four of us all together including the groundskeeper.
death2ur 3 years ago
Do you not understand why graveyards are here? If nobody wanted to go back and reflect, there wouldn't be any need for graveyards. I don't think it's right to call them losers, I would have been doing the same thing, I saw where Charles Dickens & Charles Darwin were buried... yeah, didn't look too exciting, but there was a really great thing going through my head when I was standing above the graves.
seri0usj0ker 3 years ago
That's it exactly. It is a an act of reflection and thought. Some people with empty heads can't relate.
death2ur 3 years ago
@usulkane Was quite shocked to see the way he walked over the headstones as if they were stepping stones, no respect at all there for people.

5jerry 3 years ago
Grave visiting is really a reflective activity. You image the person who is below, the way they were, maybe the way they are now. It's very much emotional and imaginative that's why people without imagination or heart cannot understand.
death2ur 3 years ago
Part two of my comment:
It was nice of the groundskeeper to show you the gravesite. The world misses him; I know I do.
