  • Wish I could see the tabs, his link is dead.

  • hi, i need help because im really bad at timing. I want to start whit my metronome at 60 and go up a few bpm as i progres. My question: I shoud make in total 4 down strokes and 4 up strokes per beate? It seems too fast when i try to play it. I need to know exacly how many down and up strokes to play per mesure. I woud really apreciate if you coud help me.

  • MORRE

  • Do you ever get the urge to play bass guitar?

  • @4444HD - I do most of the bass for my recordings... and do enjoy playing it.

  • if you have to ASK!

  • ah hahaha cool never played funk in my life nice introduction to it man

  • your videos are truly excellent - rather than the usual "play this chord, then play this chord, like this", you actually explain how to play it!

  • Hi Dave, sorry to bother you but I could not forget about this. I've notice your guitar has no locking nuts, can you please tell me the guitar model, I am buying a 7 strings for me, I would like one like this one. Thank you! And gratz on the ROTW, I really like your way to explain stuff, and the stuff you teach. IP from Brazil.

  • Halls ftw.

  • My response to step one: Funk 49 - The James Gang. It doesn't get funkier than that.

  • I've been trying to get that completely loose wrist state but it's hard... when i loosen my wrist, i lose grip on my pick D: any tips on developing relaxed wrist state while being able to maintain enough grip on the pick? if i maintain grip my wrist becomes more rigid. hmmm...

  • what kind of picks would you recomend?

  • @jose044 - Red Bear

  • @DAVEWEINER jazz III

  • @jose044 This is Dave Wieners 2nd Youtube account and i reccomend Jazz III >_>

I was able to understand it really easily

    thanks!

  • I just can't get that kind of punch of my clean tone... I use a Marshall TSL60 amp and a 1960vintage cab. tips, guys?

  • If you want punch out of a marshall, crank the master, then the pre.. try the 1987XL or 1959 reissues.

  • Really? I thought I needed to crank the preamp!

    Thanks Dave!

  • crank everything til you get what you want.

  • @Kjutte you could also look into getting a compression pedal. with the right settings, you can hear the scratching or the punch just as well as the chords

  • What's the guitar which he's playing on?

  • Looks like a Dean, Not sure though.

  • It's an Ibanez LACS

  • Yeah Sorry, heh. Kinda jumped the gun there ^_^;

  • So did Mother Superior.

  • it sounds like a drum sound

  • me too....but I'm normally right handed!

  • your a really good teacher Dave , i learn alot watching your videos and im a bass player , so thats how good you are , keep rocking Dave.

  • WTF man?! No reverb? Haha just jerkin your chain nice and funky though thats always good.

Is that a 8 string guitar?

    (I'm a bass Player)

  • no it's a 7 string ibanez

  • i want a cap like that

  • you can get it at daveweiner . com / store

  • would this work for 4 string bass??

  • try it.

  • I don't see why it wouldn't. I'd try the neck pup with the highs rolled off, and not too much lows so it doesn't get too muddy.

  • this kind of practicing actually helps to develop an ability steve vai refers to as locking to the rhythm. Locking perfectly to the groove! Nice job Dave! Keep it up! Mike

  • I want to buy a guitar and learn to play it :o

  • Awesome! Thank you Dave

  • Never knew you were a funk guy, dave. You definitely know your way around the grooves! Keep groovin :D Jimmy Nolen would be proud

    -Carlos

  • i cant find this chord, help please?

  • daveweiner . com / rotw

Just read the "About This Video" ----->

  • lolz, 7 string funk

  • I forgot to add, it would have been cool if you had shown how to add the wah in with it to give it that real 70's sound. But that may have been too long and complex.

  • Porno music, my favorite! Heh. Seriously Dave, thanks for this lesson. This is one of the few techniques that I have always had problems with, now I know how it's done.

Great job of breaking it down and working up from the basic idea to some cool riffs.

  • wakka chikka, bow wow.

  • Great edition Dave! I´m currently also working on some funky riffs. I already posted a song called "Valicious". It´s basically funk rock. Would be great if you´d check it out on my channel and tell me what you think! All the best! Greetings from Munich, Julian

  • your playing is incredible and your delivery is awesome. thx for the inspiration ... ima rip you off and use this stuff on my students ... mwaaahaaa!

    swing swang swum, ftw!

  • The most difficult thing about this is the single note part - muting all the other strings and making it sound so clean. Are you doing anything differently with your right hand when playing this part? It looks like your attack is the same when playing the chords.

  • It is the same right hand attack. The left hand does a lot of muting on single-note funk lines. Just work at it, you'll get it.

  • That helped a LOT! Thanks!

  • great man... a lot of thanks

  • i met u with vai in i dont remeber where, i think westbury but im not sure. Steve is such a nice guy... sick video, do u have anything on metal riffs?

  • sweeet, just as I was looking into learning some Funk... were those hum-buckers? I usually only see funk on single coil's.

  • Rule #1: There are no rules.

  • amen, brutha! the more i learn, the more i hafta unlearn!

  • This was real fun ^^

  • great lesson Dave! looking forward to next week.

  • Perfect Lesson. When you came in with the chord...It all made sense. Groovy!

  • lol, the only funk I knew before this was muting my strings with my fretting hand and going crazy on my crybaby while strumming like a maniac:-)

  • Dave, youve got to stop making this look so simple, its just fantastic.

Honestly, I was stuck in a rut untill I came across alot of your teachings, and theyve helped me more than anything I care to mention.

    Once again, cheers.

  • Glad to help.

  • Rock on Dave!! Nice ROTW, i was thinking what kind of chords did Funk have, but now i know! Please make a sitar ROTW!!!

  • From one teacher to another, THIS ROCKED! Looking for to more especially the latin!
