Thanks - the inside of the crater is otherworldly! The day we climbed, there was smoke/ash/steam venting from the lava dome continuously. Towards the end of the day, a small rockslide cascaded down the dome's western side which, in addition to the venting, served to remind us that we were standing on a slumbering giant!
Thanks for your comment. A climbing permit is required to climb the south side of the volcano, & other than that, it is just a long hard slog. The view is worth it and the memory will last a lifetime.

Apologies for my late reply! It was a little disconcerting standing on the lip of the crater, but the overwhelming sense of beauty balanced it out.
