Yeah 400's were available . I knew several people that owned them and also the 360

Don't forget that motor ( Like I did in a previous post LOL ) If memeory serves you could make a hell of a stroker motor out of a 383 using a 400 crank . ( It had a longer stroke than the 440 crank ) Bore it out Make a manifold and a little more work you could add Hemi heads and have a "poor man's" Hemi Don't recall the final displacement though . Depending on bore size , it got big though .

400 mopar? don't recall that one. Roadrunners/Chargers/'Cuda/Cha­llenger offered the 318,340 (some w/6 pack),383 (also w/6 pack special package),426 HEMI (the engine that makes roadrunners sell for $500,000+), 440

Father in law had a 340 special edition w/6 pack. It'd do wheelies. 426 Hemi 'Cuda, I remember those new back in I think 1970.

@Gungho228 On the track ? or twisty turnies ? Any newer car will blow them away on the twisty turnies . But they will hold their own on the Standing 1/4 mile . The old RR were ALL about the 1/4 mile and beating the Chevy's and Ford's for cheap . What kind of HP are those Mustangs turning ? I'd bet a 440 RR will hand them their asses . Provided the driver knows how to get off the line without burning the tires to the finish line.

@Gungho228 Continued - The car was a bone stock 383 with almost 200,000 miles on it . It ate 350 modified Novas for lunch. I mean Modified like Cams , exhaust ,traction bars, electronic distributor's and Larger tires.. the same with Camaros . You should have seen the look on some of these guy's faces . They would kill me at the line . No Traction bars or wide tires and STOCK ! Then buy 3rd gear I would wave bye bye to them in the Rearview Mirror .

FYI, All road runners had "Beep Beep" Horns. They are purpal and say voice of the road runner with a picture of the road runner.

this is true for all roadrunners including and after 1969, but 68 had a black horn, many after market ones are purple, i know this because i'm looking for a correct sounding one, everyone's sounds all groat and low, not nice and crisp...

Even though 1973 wasn't a performance friendly year for the automotive industry I still love the styles of the 1971-74 Road Runner's, all what it takes is a little modification for these cars to perform the way they did in the earlier years.

and the cuda hade the hemi and the 73 roadrunner had the 440

@lobzdik The Cuda and Barracuda are separate cars The Cuda Generaly came with a 340 6 pack or the more desirable 440 or Hemi powerplants . Although the 440 was slower it's worht a fortune The 383 was also a powerplant option . The Roadrunner was indeed tied to the Cartoon the 1st RR were sold in 1968 . The Hemi Cudas are rare and the Hemi RR's are rare But probably the most rare would be the Hemi RR Superbirds . The cars with the tall spoiler and the Pic of a RR holding a helmet on it.

Road runners i know quite well. my dad had a 68, 383 mag, carter 4, 727B torqueflite and 2.73 gears. very little could touch it, let alone run with it. makes me miss it too. Nicely kept Bird.

soooooo not true. hell the 340 was one of the best engines ever made. the 440 was an animal. roadrunners were pushin over 300hp in the 340 version easy, though not confirmed by plymouth. plus the handling was so much better, it was a real racer.
