oh and back on the topic of voxtrot, i think the new album is pretty good. it wasn't as good as the EPs, but my favorite song of theirs is on there- Steven. it's my new favorite. :)
go faster band, kate nash, the wombats, dirty pretty things, the libertines, bloc party, babyshambles, blood red shoes(they're great), Kubicheck!, kasabian, the cribs, the maccabees, mando diao, the view, belle & sebastian, the rakes, klaxons, franz ferdiand, the whitest boy alive, the good the bad and the queen, the horrors, etc....
i'm not isolated in the infinite vortex, "the media", i probably just really wanted to move to London on the day I said that, hehehe. i really do appreciate all sorts of music. and the killers i wouldn't even consider one of my favorite bands anymore. all i'm saying is that i usually tend to prefer bands from the UK. the kooks, the fratellis, maximo park, mumm-ra, the holloways, arctic monkeys
course yeah yeah yeahs, wilco, black rebel motercycle club, the shins, the decemberists, ben folds, voxtrot, someone still loves you boris yeltsin, modest mouse, le tigre, cold war kids etc. etc. etc.
well, when i said "american music usually does suck" i meant that a high majority of it, not all. of course there are exceptions. For example, illinois the band, is from Pennsylvania, and they are great. and bishop allen is from the us, and they're great too. the virgins, from NYC, great band as well. of
hey, I looked at the website and wow! you have great music taste. I don't know all of the artists, but I have looked into them and the music is great. I especially love The Blow, The Rapture, Of Montreal, Ladytron, !!!, The Futureheads, The Whitest Boy Alive, Au Revoir Simone, We Are Scientists, The Shins, Belle & Sebastian, Jens Lekman, The Gossip, Man Man, and of course Voxtrot. :P
fire, good bad and queen, the view, mando diao, kings of leon, silversun pickups, SSLYBY, pete bjorn and john, apples in stereo, interpol, cold war kids, babyshambles, just jack, razorlight, we are scientists, tokyo police club, the cribs , the rakes, and my hands hurt too badly to type more :P
seen live - like or dislike: franz-like; arctic monkeys-ok, too hyped; the shins-like, new album is crap; bloc party-don't like, overrated; muse-hate, worthless band making worthless 'music'; elefant-don't like, ripoff of the smiths & other 80s acts; wolfmother-ok, unique and great live show; kings of leon-don't like; s.sun pickups-don't like, smashing pumpkings ripoffs; interpol-like, but their 15 mins are up; WAS-don't like.
what do you think about these bands? My favorite band of all time is THE KOOKS, and then there are THE FRATELLIS, the wombats, Franz ferdiand, arctic monkeys, dirty pretty things, ben kweller, the shins, bloc party, maccabees, decemberists, zutons, lily allen, mika, kaiser chiefs modest mouse, muse, klaxons, The feeling, elefant, wolfmother, arcade
first, i'll list the bands that i disapprove of; then, i'll go through the bands i've seen live and tell you what i think of them; lastly, any remaning bands i respect, i'll list. [this will be a 2 or 3 parter].
disapprove: kooks, fratellis, wombats, ben kweller, maccabees, zutons, mika, kaiser chiefs, modest mouse, muse, the feeling, the view, babyshambles, just jack, razorlight, the cribs, the rakes.
i agree with you. im not too sure where voxtrot are from, but im guessing not from england, as theyre actually decent. uk music at the moment is awful, and supported by idiots who used to be chavs but turned "indie" because its the new cool. The UK needs some decent bands or all good indie music is gonna be dominated by the americans/canadians/europeans and we'll go back to been a laughing stock.
Thats not from some middle aged american or whatever, its from an english 16 year old
Umm, Voxtot is from Austin, Texas. And I LOVE English Indie music... In the US, it's really not the new cool, its more like wth, why don't you listen to the pussy cat dolls? haha, and American music usually does suck- rap for example.. But, there are good bands like the decemberists, the killers, voxtrot, yeah yeah yeahs, etc. The UK has great music, most of my favorites- The Kooks, The Fratellis, The Maccabees, The Wombats, Dirty Pretty Things, and many many more.
i have to agree with the maccabees, theyre ace. i think its just because of the exposure in england. literally every new english indie band here is called the next big thing, and completely overhyped, the charts just compiled of indie music, tv show winners and bad american exports. i doubt its the same in america.
exactly: hype. or rather, OVER-hyped. and most of that is thanks to the NME [no offense]; they really hail every "new sensation" as the next band that'll raise a musical scene to the next level. ugh. in america, it's kind of the same, but more in the underground community; two years ago, it was Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, a while back it was Wolf Parade [from Canada],
now it's Panda Bear- but to be fair, his album was REALLY good. so yeah, it's kind of the same here.
"...its more like wth, why don't you listen to the pussy cat dolls? haha"
please explain. as for american music "usually" sucking,
well i suggest you make more of an effort and look into
bands and artists that have real quality to them,
rather than... The Killers. The Killers? really, do you put them in the same field as The Decemberists or Voxtrot- let alone a calling them a "good" american band? no really, i'm not being a dick about it,
I love the killers, and yeah, they were overplayed but they are as good as ever. At least I didn't say like, Fall Out Boy or something(Jeez they are awful):P. The Killers are just a great band because I love the fact they had that whole spiritual-type renewal thing, and I think that they are just a truly good band. And yes it was kind of weird to put them in with some great Indies....
to me, the killers are one of the worst bands ever to come together and call themselves musicians. they're a bad copy of 80s new wave/alternative bands, a copy that's been copied again and again. what they put out is pure STYLE over SUBSTANCE- a formula that should be the other way around; they don't care about making decent music as much as they do about mainting an "image". and yes, that was kind of weird including them with some notable indie pop acts.
too bad they broke up :(

me too; very good band. as for The Fratellis, well,
they aren't too much likw Voxtrot, musically, i think.
more like a Libertines/Razorlight/Supergrass-esque
group, those three; frankly, i think the whole
UK indie/garage band act is a fad that needs to
end very soon.
