  • Appleton, WI, USA

    Masquerade! October 31st, 2008 WHERE?!

Wilson St. + Royal Court (Hah, funny.. but really) Be there, and don't forget... bring your shades n' shadows.

  • Forgive the man that made me? ME? This beast I am? I can never do that. All the same, if I could forgive his maker's maker and so on. All the way to the first, we would All be Free. All.

But I can't, I see black. I breath black. I drink black. Damn this cruel fate to which I must endure always... ... Damned. Forever.

    ~Celeste d' van'Ixis

  • you cannot be blackend and a vampire since vampiring requires too much energy and social endurance

  • I'm not sure what blackened means, but I do know that "vampire" cannot be made into a verb, and vampires aren't real. Get some sunlight, and move out of mom's basement. I had my Goth phase too, for about a month. Then I realized I was just acting like a pretentious idiot.

  • then you got me confused. I tought that's what you are. I'm happy and in the sun.

    sorry.

  • He was probably kidding...I hope.

  • Then clearly you did not go through a Goth phase.

  • Really? And how did you come to that conclusion?

  • Because being 'Goth' is more than slapping on some make-up and dark clothing.

  • Trust my, I know that. You also need to decide if you're going to be Visigoth or Ostrogoth....but in all seriousness, my original point is that kids (and it's mostly kids) who say they are goth, or vampires, and no one understands me, blah blah bla, are looking for attention, and not actually goth. And that pisses me off.

  • Couldn't agree more, modernism has ruined Gothism.

  • @nutcraker2k7 NO, its just the same as anything, culture gets diluted. Instead of it being a chance to be something new, its just a thing that no one does anymore. dnt get me wrong its around but its not part of popular culture, in some ways it never was, although there are alot of "replicas" its like you said b4, its not a style, and i think youd agree that its more of something within, because real goth people dont have to "act goth"

  • Like most of the ''Goth'' kids at Hot Topic? lol

  • An old batcaver friend (what people used to say before the commercialized word 'goth' hit the scene) was walking by hot topic in a mall a few weeks ago and told me he say a "goth" girl standing there chewing gum and singing to the Britney Spears song they were blasting in there.

    Good times.

  • Yes. I think raze hit the most serious issue. gotta decide visigoth or ostrogoth. lol

  • Haha... South Park explained it perfectly with their vampire episode.

  • Well, but I also know a 14 year old girl who knows what being "gothic" really means. She's very intelligent and educated and wouldn't wear dark clothes if she wouldn't know the gothic attitude towards life, because she has got an own opinion. Well, but I must admit - it depends on what you understand by "gothic"... In my understanding, she, as well as I, knows what it means. But older "gothic" people may have a different understanding of it and call people like us posers...

  • Okay, please elaborate on what a gothic attitude means to you and your friend (by the way, 14 is a little young to be that cynical). I'm not saying it is IMpossible, just that MOST kids who call themselves gothic nowadays don't know what it's really about. As mentioned, it's more than just slapping on some makeup and black clothes.

  • @RazelG 14 isn't too young to be incredibly cynical, far from it. Unfortunately, life doesn't throw us all a stable, healthy and/or privileged hand and a kid's cynicism may reflect that. Additionally, children can also find a romanticized beauty in tragedy (eg, gory historical events, unrequited love in fairytales etc), which certainly lends itself to a fascination with goth in the pre- and early-teens that runs a lot deeper than just make up, tattered fishnet and lace.

  • @theridiida True, not every kid has a wonderful life and that can tilt them towards cynicism. Maybe I am biased because my own youth, while not great, was marked by optimism and hope for better things, though that was just my personality. And yes, some kids can find the more philosophical, thoughtful aspecta of the dark side of life. I still feel the vast majority of self-proclaimed "Goth" kids are doing it for the attention. Much like Anne Gwish from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.

  • yep

  • being goth originally wasn't about being educated and just saying no to everything society said...It used to have a party spirit and it was fun, sure it meant having an opinion, but not necessarily going against society, that was just a side-effect. Goth isn't something you become or can be, some people are born that way, with that personality, if your friend is doing this voluntarily then she's definitely a poser.

I'm not a lot older than you, I'm 16...so yeah, you ARE a poser...

  • The first goths were just people who started dressing like musicians from weird bands, like Bauhaus, Joy Division, the Cure, and the Siouxsie and the Banshees. The media and several musicians, like Abbo from UK Decay, used "goth" to describe them because of the similarities with the Gothic. Then, bands like the Sisters of Mercy started making music to fit the burgeoning label. Now, a lot of those bands, the Sisters included, hate the label because they were pigeonholed into it.

  • right, that's the "dictionary" definition, I was just saying what a real goth is like, and what a poser CelticShainaMartel is, along with his/her friend.

I know we shouldn't use the label, but if a poser like Celtic is looking from the outside then there is no other way of explaining, unless you want to replace the label with the term "you-know-what-people-I'm-talking-about"

  • @ArturoVergaraM I know a lot of real goths who are stupid and melodramatic and hardly intellectual. They are really goth, though. They like goth music, dress goth, and think society is failed. Also, personality is almost always acquired; it's not inherited.

  • @IbeusLaCroix Apparently if you think society is flawed, you immediately become goth.

Me: I think society is failed too. Does that make me goth?

God: No, that just makes you emo. Step off fool!

Really though? Setting standards is not cool. It just makes others want to break them.

  • @Causticlight That is not what I said. A lot of subcultures and even mainstream religions view society as flawed. What I clearly indicated was that to be goth, one must view society as flawed. I did not say viewing society as flawed makes one goth. >.>

  • @IbeusLaCroix I always forget that there is no tone of sarcasm and tomfoolery on the interweb. lol My B.

  • Oh, I picked up on your sarcasm. I just thought you were using it to seriously mock me. Ha! Oops.

  • @Causticlight fuck lables

  • @perfectdarkness314 Why fuck labels? Most people who are offended at labels are just insecure about themselves. Think about it. Either way, I've lost interest. So...kudos!

  • @IbeusLaCroix

Technically, Joy Division were never goth.

The people who listened to them were.

Actually Joy Division was a punk band who only turned toward the "darkside" on their last album.

Their earlier work was more punk based.

  • Siouxsie and the Banshees were also punk at first, but both band's darker sides, regardless of the fact that Joy Division's was later, left quite the impact on what was to become goth. Also, if you reread my first sentence, you will notice I said goths were people who started dressing like weird bands. I didn't say the bands were goth.

  • @IbeusLaCroix

I saw that after, so excuse my ignorance.

We're both on the same page.

Yes, Siouxsie was influenced by punk also.

Her darkness wasn't so desolate, though.

JD's last album was absolutely morbid.

I love it, but it's not like anything Siouxsie has done....

  • @nutcraker2k7 Exactly.

Thats the stupid sparklyfag vampire emo clichee bullshit, a horrible attempt at plagiarizing Goth

  • @nutcraker2k7 im a fucken angry goth train modeler cunts

  • @nutcraker2k7, uh, no, 'Goth' is slapping on some make-up, dark clothing and hair spray.

All the original Gothy Batcavers are 40 to 60, like me.

Todays emo is about the same difference... except the music today sucks.

  • @superbobosbourne Goth didn't begin nor end with the Batcave though. The Batcave was a club which was all about the dressing up to many (similar to Nag Nag Nag in the early '00s, also one of Jonny Melton/Slut's). However, goth as a subculture stretched across far more than this. The Sisters weren't even a "Batcave band". Listen to this next to, say, Sharp Teeth Pretty Teeth and tell me that Specimen are a goth band. In image, sure, goth clubkids... but sonically? Damn, no.

  • @nutcraker2k7 exactly. It's sad that some only delve into the fashion side of things, but don't really grasp what being "gothically inclined" really is about...

  • @nutcraker2k7 Your right, that called emo which is a pale immitation. I am not goth or emo but i have eye to see that much. I only wish I had the courage of my convictions to be a goth. I like counterculture. Its makes looking more interesting.

  • THE A1 GOTH SONG

  • If I recall right this band is from Leeds in the UK. Did this car accident happen on the 101 in Los Angeles? Or did it happen on some Route in another part of the world?

  • this songs mint, as a student it inspired me to get totally wasted one day just so i could actually see black circles in front of my face, it was mint:)

  • at 2:40, that was definitely a Schipperke w/ a tail! Great song BTW

  • goth puppy!

  • We live forever, damned we will remain. Music will change from time to time...and yet remain the same.

Our curse cripples our will to live.

Our thirst includes the ultimate desire to walk in the light we have chose to shun long ago.

    Black Planet....

    ~Konstantinos

  • Oh shut up you sad cunt.
