Point it, we should tolerate others beliefs. I do not condemn anyone for the god they believe in, or the one they don't. For instance, Thomas Paine, who wrote the incendiary booklet "Common Sense," railed against the evils of Christianity. The separation of church and state in the American nation is meant to remove power from the Church by removing the secular backing of the nation-state.
The Church of England had that power, and it resulted in more than a century of bloodshed, tyranny, and oppression.

Most people don't even know that the term Separation of Church and State does not exist anywhere in the Constitution. That term was used by Thomas Jefferson in a personal letter he wrote to the Danbury Baptist Association of Connecticut on January 1, 1802.

Religious types seem to like to gloss over the first part of the First Amendment. Namely, Congress shall not tell you what to believe. Thats what it means when it says "Congress shall make no law RESPECTING an establishment of religion". The second clause is the one that forbids congress from prohibiting whatever nonsense you believe. If I vote for one of the Big Two, its going to be the least delusional. Period. Religious beliefs are fine, they help many people deal with life, and help others thru hard times. But, religions are based on faith, not fact. You cannot tell me what to believe, or that one religion is fact, and all others are false. I cannot tell you there is no god, but you cannot tell me there is one, and certainly cannot tell me his name, and that I am wrong for not following his ways. If you research it, you'll see our country was founded on Judaeo-Christian values and almost all of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were Clergy in Christian Churches. It's just a fact. Not to mention (as I've already stated) 76% of America claims to be Christian while only 0.7% claim to be Buddhist and 0.6% claim to be Muslim. John Adams was Unitarian, and others claimed themselves as Diests. Your restating the 76% metric has no bearing on legislature or public education. The fact of the matter is when you live amongst 76% Christians you'll run into one or two every now and again in legislature, public schools and so on. That doesn't mean you MUST change your religion. That's ridiculous. However, if 3 out of 4 people believe something, you'd better get used to hearing about that belief system.
