  • go irish!!

  • Just get on the Bus.

  • @hollabackitsobi funny I thought you said modern era. Cuz if you went with the last 10 years, florida is #8 on the wins with 67 and boise state is even ahead of them with 108 wins. So with your logic boise state must be better then florida;)

  • All aboard "The Bus!!"

  • ND is going to 3-8 This yr. They should have never fired Charlie Weis. Weis should have never used the West Cost Offense and switched to 3-4 defense. Brian Kelly is not the answer. There is many coaches better than him. There are going to lose to Purdue Michigan USC STanford Air Force Michigan Michigan State. Pittsburg and Boston College all losses!

  • @babykevinxoxo looks like you were wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • I imagine many hearts were broken in Florida at about 5:03, followed by many television sets at 5:11.

  • Can't wait to see these jerseys come back for the Under the Lights game! Go Irish!

  • Love the Irish Notre Dame football forever

  • Lol @ the bama fans trashing the Irish...they have had a rough patch yeah, but please remind me...how many times has bama beat ND? 1 time in 5 games, and the bear could never beat em...ND's all time record against the SEC is 42-32-5. If you want too talk about the history, don't use the BCS era as a crutch, don't pick at parts of the history, talk of the history as a whole.

  • Great game! Its Coach Kelly's turn to bring home #12

  • I remember this game and will always remember it!

    Love Lou Holtz

    Love Notre Dame Football

    GO IRISH!

  • I remember this game. The "ol ball coach Spurrier" was totally out coached by Holtz. Holtz eventually went to South Carolina, where the previous coach left the place totally bare but within two years Holtz had SC in a bowl game and they beat The Ohio State University. The next year they once again beat The Ohio University (and we now know how The Ohio State University qualified for bowls. ) Spurrier replaced Holtz, who left him with the cupboard full and Spurrier could not do what Holz did.

  • What's with this going for two nonsense?

  • Notre Dame could lose every game for the next 10 years and would still be better than every other program. It's just an un-equalled tradition. Irish will always be #1!

  • i think everyone should know this. Florida never scheduled a game outside of the south after this season. Thats right. They haven't left the south since '91.

  • @904austin Yea I always say how Florida never leaves the South.

  • @904austin

They lost at Syracuse in 1991 if I am correct. Interesting fact about the Gators never leaving the south. At least

  • Go Irish

  • @pattiemac1 roll tide irish suck

  • Bettis just scored again.

  • those jerseys are pretty sick, saw notre dame playin em against usc, dang bush push....

  • @talktothechalk Are you sure you were at the game? When USC used that cheatin' Bush (both on and off the field as it turned out) push the Irish were weaing their home blue jerseys no green on them anywhere..

    Go Irish, beat Boiler's!!!!

  • @enm97 nah im pretty sure they were wearing the green in that game, but i was there, maybe they were wearing the blue

  • @talktothechalk Nothing personal but if you search for "Bush push Notre Dame" on you tube you will see that they were wearing the blue.

  • @enm97

ND wore green that game. I suggest you watch the various videos of that game again.

  • Anyone else think Florida's QB Shane Matthews looks like Adam Sandler?

  • check out that water bottle thrown at jerome bettis at 4:05, i assume a bitter fla fan upset at spurriers lack of half time adjustments. this game was lou holtz owning spurrier. fla was so overrated that year. what a game.

  • Always nice to beat the GAYtors

  • Spurrier was so frustrated about not being able to punch it in while in the red zone. And Bettis would not be stopped this day. I would love to see this matchup somewhere down the road again. Go Gators!

  • This was a great game a couple years before the Steve Spurrier Gators became a serious National Title Contender.

  • We don't realize how good of a coach Lou Holtz was....20-1 when given 2 weeks to prepare for a game.

  • One can only hope Notre Dame will be back but have to wait and see what Kelly can do. Glad Chuckles is gone. That fat lard was only concerned when the next shipment of Twinkies were coming in to South Bend.

  • One of my favorite bowl games ever, and I'm not a fan of either team. Great matchup, and I just remember Bettis going off! Very impressive game for #6.

  • The Bus was on a roll!

  • Florida kicked too many damn FG's

  • @koroseman Hell the Gators field goal kicker was the only reason they were even in the game!

  • i want one of these jerseys

  • suck it Spurrier. but jeez the UF receivers sucked

  • Anyone notice how much Matthews, the Florida QB, looks like Adam Sandler from the Wedding Singer? It's uncanny. I'm sure he got ton of ass though.

  • that must have been such a good game to watch

  • nd's last impressive bowl win.

  • actually the game against Hawaii was pretty impressive

  • not really, gman. it was just the hawaii bowl. not much to brag about. i'm talking about major bowl games against a formidable, high-ranked opponent.

  • it was an impressive win, in a bowl game.

therefore impressive bowl win. you didn't say against a decent team the first time.

  • This game is Exhibit A of why you need to finish drives with seven points, not three. UF should have been up 24-7 or 28-7 at half. Then ND would have been forced to throw instead of pounding the daylights out of UF's defense with the Bus.

  • you seem to be underestimating the Irish defense

  • Not intentionally. But I remember that game well and the Gators did leave some points on the field in that 1st half. No knock on ND, they owned the 2nd half and deserved the win.

  • the best part about this game was that after hearing for a month that ND had no business being on same field as the gators, we looked great n holtz out coached spurier. also seeing clips on tv of the post-game victory party, thrown by shane matthews p's, being set-up in a new orleans hotel. 'boy this party really died' -lloyd christmas

  • damn this was a great game!! hats of to the irish! defeating the gaytors

  • gaytors eh? while gators won the NC notre dame had like 3 wins?

  • am i a notre dame fan???

  • you clowns still haven't had an undefeated season. Tebow won't do it this year either

  • idk, they have an easy schedule, for an SEC team at least

they might if he is healthy

  • Awesome game, go the irish of ND!

  • In the second half, this Notre Dame played smash mouth. I think they ran 9-10, up the middle plays, in a row and completely destroyed Florida.

  • I personally would have rather seen a Penn State vs. Florida Sugar Bowl. They crushed ND in November and deserved a shot at the Gators that year. Although they would have probably beat the hell out of UF as well, as they were the hottest team closing the '91 season.

The fact that Tennessee already played ND effectively forced the PSU/TEN, ND/FLA matchups. However, a UT/ND rematch would have been interesting to watch considering their classic matchup earlier in the season.

  • Im tired of hearing about the gay-tors they had a great year, but the Irish will be back and remember wher urban learned to really coach was in south bend

  • not until Weis is fired and is replaced with a real college coach.

  • Like Meyer

  • He actually started out at Cincinnati, and learned his coaching philosophies from Woody Hayes. Then he went to Colorado State, and THEN got the call to Notre Dame.

  • I remember Steve Spurrier crying saying he wanted to play a higher rated opponate. He got #18 ND and a fat loss.

  • I remember this game I watched it with my uncle.

  • The Irish have a long way to go before they are even respectable. GO GATORS!!!!

  • What is the definition of respectable. ND is already back to respectable, but it may take a while fore them to get back to national title contention, if that is what you mean. Still, I was at that game and it was a great game\, if you were an Irish fan. Lou Holtz's best coaching performance at ND other than the Miami game in 1988

  • It's 2008, not 1988. The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost caught the last train out of town the day the music died, and the music died a long time ago.

  • wow, that's a pretty dumb thing to say. you're basically giving all Christians a huge middle finger by saying that. think before you type.

  • Lou Holtz's best coaching jobs were all against Florida Teams, MIAMI - 88, FLORIDA -92 SUGAR BOWL, and FLORIDA STATE 93.

  • they are not respectable they have one bowl win since this game how id that respectable they lost to SYRACUSE stop it!!!!! i have this game on tape tho i remember what lou said about the waiter in the restaurant after the game "difference between ND and cheerios, cheerios belong in the bowl" im a cane fan but i love lou holtz

  • Notre Dame has won three bowl games since this one.

  • I hate Notre Dame but their History is so much better than the GAYtors its not even funny

  • thank u.... i give sc props 4 blowing out overated ohio state.

  • Huh?

  • thax 4 saying nd's history is better than florida's.... i give usc props 4 blowing out overated ohio state.

  • Why props if they are overrated?

  • cos i thought ohio state was gonna win that game after usc beated em i just relized how overrated ohio state realy is.

  • @FightOn2VICTORY Yeah, all those amazing leather helmet championships. Just amazing! Go Gators, winningest program in college football in the past 20 years (AKA the MODERN era...quit living in the past!).

  • @hollabackitsobi Haha that's funny because you just contradicted yourself.

  • @FightOn2VICTORY yeah and if it wasn't for past Assistant Notre Dame coach Urban Meyor you guys would be nobody.

  • The Weis hiring was the death sentence for ND football. A fat fuck QB coach who never played football, never a head coach at any level and by all accounts a Bill Parcells drone. His only expertise seems to be recruiting and which calzones to have delivered to the Gug. If he is not fired after this season, something is rotten, but I love Notre Dame football more than anything else on Earth. I want to see the Irish play a game like this, how much goddam longer do I

    have to wait? H

  • if you were a ND fan you woudnt be calling a coach who led his team to 2 BCS bowls in his first two years a fat fuck.

  • One of the best examples of why Holtz was truly a great coach. In game adjustments, halftime changes... and ND beats a team thats better than them... why can't Weis do this just once?

  • ND kicked the SHIT out of FLORIDA, let them go back to prison..... ND rules!!

  • they could beat the Gators then, i doubt they could beat the Gators now...no offense

  • I've always wondered why ND doesn't go to wearing the kelly green jerseys at home and these types of away jerseys w/ the green numbers...Not that there's anything wrong w/ the current uni's but, I'd like to see them wear more green and gold, rather than blue and gold...

  • Bettis should have slid down short of the end zone at the end there. With 2:04 left they could have all but run out the clock

  • Why was this called 'The Cheerios Bowl?'

  • It's explained at the end. A waiter in Florida asked Holtz what the difference is between Notre Dame and Cheerios...Cheerios belong in a bowl.

  • @chrisuncleahmad holtz's reply was "whats the difference between lou holtz and a prfoessional golfer? The golfer gives good tips."

  • when did adam sandler play qb for fla?

  • he didnt thats bs

  • Gator CHOMP that loss.

    Go Irish

  • As bad as that season was in the Holtz years, they could have beaten any team that year, with the exception of Miami or Washington. They belonged in that bowl. Holtz schooled Spurior.

  • Best part of the game was when Mirer, Brooks and Bettis did the Gator mouth cheer in front of Spurrier

  • also RIP Rodney Culver, a great ND running back was lost on the ValuJet flight that crashed into the everglades

  • Notre Dame muscle, pure and simple, we pounded them, a precursor to the next year when we pounded Florida State

  • I think part of it is , that Lou Holtz (if given time) can outcoach a lot of great ones. This was jan. 1st,1992, they played florida state in november of 1993.

  • jerome bettis and florida not being able to convert was the story of the game.

  • rick mirer?? this was forever known to me for 4 reasons. 1 - Steve Spurrier complaining before the game that he wanted to play a higher ranked team. 2 - The green numbered jerseys. 3 - Jerome Bettis running thru Florida. 4 - The 'cheerios' game. for rick mirer highlights, see his last home game versus Penn State, in the snow.

  • Wow, rick mirer was the shit

  • I was at the game. One of Lou's best Coaching victories. At the end of the first half, the Irish had the ball and ran several straight running plays, mostly with Bettis. Our line completely moved the Gators D line. The half ended, Holtz pointed to the locker room and led the team. The second half was complete domination. FL line didn't know what hit 'em. A Florida fan at the half said to me, "Get ready for the blow out." I smiled and agreed.

  • Somebody is bitter??? Waaaah!!!!

  • @edflhnd 39-28 final is a blowout? I guess that's better than the Steelers fan that tried to tell me 24-19 in the AFC title game was a runaway.

  • I had forgetten about this Florida smackdown but it reminds be of when Tommy Fraser and Nebraska ran untouched for several big runs in the 96 Fiesta Bowl.

  • why did we ever get rid of lou?

  • haha go irish baby!! Bettis was a beast, ND rocks. Lou was an extraordinary coach too

  • thats right , i was thinking about the 92 season ... im a huge noles fan too

  • Ah, the good 'ol straight T. Don't see that much anymore, maybe the wishbone or option T by the service acadamies. Thats about it.

  • I haven't seen a T in years, now that you mention it.

  • Wow, things sure have changed. The SEC wasn't nearly as good back then. Then again Alabama did win the NC the next year.

  • you're tripping, the SEC wasn't nearly good then? Alabama went 11-1, Tennessee was uber talented 9-3, Georgia had a either a 9-3/10-2 season. I call silliness on what you say. I've seen more S.E.C. with better records since the 12 team conference, then when they just had 10 teams.

  • how was florida # 3 ?? fsu destroyed them 45-24 in tally that year ...

  • You're thinking of the 1992 regular season. This bowl game was on January 1, 1992 to end the 1991 season. Florida was SEC champions and lost only one other game, to Syracuse, that season.

  • Florida beat FSU 14-9 in the swamp that year. Our defense batted down FSU's 4th and goal pass for Casey Weldon to win the game. 92 was the year youre thinking of.

  • Yes that is Al Michaels, Frank Gifford and Dan Dierdorf, the longtime "Monday Night Football" announcers, doing a college game. I think, to date, this is the last college game Al Michaels has announced.

  • Lou Holtz 1

    Steve Spurrier 0

  • Spurrier got holtz back a couple times at when Holtz was at USC East though. Remember Holtz's blackout? Spurriers quote was, "made it easier to see the footballs in the air" and "looked like a funeral for the gamecocks." hahahaha

  • Florida didn't have a chance to win the title, the 2 teams ranked ahead of them both won their bowl games. Oh and both starting inside linebackers were hurt for this game.

  • Didn't one of them start the game and leave due to injury?

  • Injured starters? So what? You're a Florida team with deep talent playing in the SEC. You didn't have any back-ups? Please.

  • It wasn't some random FB breaking long runs, it was freakin Jerome Bettis. It would help to have your starters in to begin with. Yes, backups should step up, but they're backups for a reason.

  • Yes, once Holtz recognized that weakness in the D-Line on the right side, he knew the bus would pound through

  • A Notre Dame QB taking a knee at the end of a bowl game.

I'd love to see that again.

And while they're at it, I'd like to see a running game like that again!

  • This was such a fun game to watch , I just got back from the Rose Bowl celebrating UW's win and watching an upset of ND beating a good Florida Team in the sugar bowl was awesome!

  • This is why Steve Spurrier always ranks Notre Dame low, just because of this game.

  • No, he rates them low because he can't get over the fact that the #18 team beat his #3 team. Go cry somewhere else.

  • All the ND haters were pissed ND was in this game. Florida had a chance to win the title this year...oops.

  • What a great game! I remember the bus taking over.

  • 39-28 ND win! UF was a big favorite to win this game. GO IRISH!!
