Our rules allow for us to replace the airbag ride shocks with up to 3/4" threaded rod. We are allowed to weld to the axle, but must be bolted to the frame. So, we took out the old air shock, jacked the car up to the hight we wanted, measured and cut the rod, slid it into the channels of the old shock, welded the bottom to the axle (used a washer and nut at the base for more surface area to weld to) & then used 2 nuts w/washers (one on top, one bottom) at the top to tighten the rod to the frame.
@roundtopsk84eva We removed the rear suspension air bags that were bad first. We then used 3/4" all thread, bolting to the top of the frame and then welded the rod in the pocket on the rear end, being sure to use a 3" washer at the base for more surface area to weld to. Does that answer your question?
