Great walkthru, but one question if you will. I, like you, will need to connect to my father-in-law's computer once in a while to fix things. Exactily how do I 'connect to another computer' half way around the world? Do we both have to be logged into the same 'Windows Live' account?
I don't have two computers with me right now to test with.
@aeidher To log on to another computer it has to have Live Mesh installed and running under YOUR account. Simply have your father in law log in with your information or, if you are security conscious, create a different live mesh account and have him log in with that.
yeah i think mesh is what i need then because the files i want to sync are scattered around for instance i would like my picture's file to 2 other pc's without having to have to copy or paste to the dropbox directory. thanks for the advice!
@TPund yes i noticed that only 5 is used, i downloaded live mesh after seeing some video. i was wondering if i would be able to replace dropbox, all i want it for is really to back up small but important files in the web. also for it to sync automatically , even be able to share file's between other computer and sync with other computers. basically do it all, i installed it on my laptop but i am still wondering if i should even bother and stick with dropbox? what do you think?
@jay33011211 I think it depends on what you need or want to be honest. If you have simple needs or just a few files you want to sync, then Dropbox is better. If you need to have multiple folders backed up across several computers or need/want a higher level of control on what is being synced to where then Mesh is better.
Better than dropbox
