  • If its only 3000 gallons for each filter and they both go at the same time then it would be 3000 not 6000

  • When I first saw this I thought Oh, finally something affordable. I mean how much can a couple water jugs with holes drilled in them cost....

At 200 $s + for a couple water jugs with holes drilled in them I at least hope they offer free shipping. Wow.

  • does it filter the flouride too? how much r new filters?

  • I had mine since January, it came with the pf2 filters. I can finally drink tap water again!

  • Just got mine last night. LOVE IT!

  • I own this purifier and like it very much. Also ordered the pf2 filters that screw into the bottoms of the 2 main black filters. These remove flouride, arsenic, etc. Tap water tastes really bad now that I am use to drinking my water from the purifier.

  • Berkey and Ecoloblue Buy it Now at Mahaffeyiti(dot)com just take out the (dot) and put a .

  • i think this is for filtering more like dirt and sand not bacteria

  • No, this is a ceramic filter. It will filter out just about anything except viruses. This includes parasites and bacteria. Using this filter, you should be able to drink just about any water and feel pretty safe.

  • Just ordered one of these. No more forcing flouride on me!!! I'm going to send the bill to my local water company and force them to pay since they wont provide me clean water. NWO SCUM!!!

  • Maybe you could test them with some dirty water.

  • Humm looks like if someone wanted to save some money they could just order the filters and drill holes in a 5gal bucket or cut up a cuple of those 5gat water cooler bottles

  • somehow i don't think those filters would work on water with bacterial life in it.

  • this filter looks like a piece of crap made out of hardware material in someones garage.

  • I LOVE mine. We have the arsenic/fluoride filter also. They hang into the collection reservoir. We only have city water so we need that.

I noticed my family drinking tons more water after we purchased this system last year. It is a great and cost effective way of getting good filtered water.

Shop around. You can find some cheaper than other.

  • so instead of buying the whole system, you buy some 5 gallon buckets, buy the filters, and save a crap ton of money.

  • i think i could make this filter system fairly easily.

  • sorry kevin , I was not attacking you , just the set up of the filter .

  • DANGER DANGER DANGER ,your putting your family's health in the hands of two little rubber washers that are supposed to keep bad water from leaking down into good water ? And you wouldn't be able to tell until your whole family is puukking out there guts , wasting precious water .

  • idaru2: Ok, what is your solution.

I think Kevin has offered a simple solution that works for him. But if you have something better to add, than add it.

I am tired of people saying, "that's bad" but never telling what is better. This is a good place to share information about things that work for you.

  • I think Kevin has done nothing more than review a product he received from a company who requested he reviews it in exchange for the price of the product or a discount. He never once claims he has used it or that he even likes the product, it is simply a REVIEW. And this isn't anything new.. Survivalistboards is turning into a commercialized infomercial channel, with every video being "sponsored" by a high end camping retailer.

I'd personally like to see Kev go back to the old days of survival

  • More so it's an itemized list of parts and their assembly; nothing more.

it looks like a nice little item for a weekend camp, but those filters probably won't handle seriously contaminated water. Maybe you could toss in some purifying tabs if you where worried.

  • You know I agree with you. I originally signed up with his channel because I liked what he had to say and it was informative. I mean I don't mind product reviews and I understand that he may need to make money but don't turn into another "commercial" channel. We love ya for who ya are Kev. We miss the old days of goofy reviews tied in with real insightful wisdom. I will keep watching for a while as long as you give us your honest opinion on these products.

  • One last thing,

With several of these recent products tested, I am starting to see a pattern. Companies are taking a very old fashioned concept (camping stove, first aid kit, water filtration) and trying to fancy it up and stamp a $150-$200 price tag on it. I think it's important to remember a big part of survival and outdoor living is making due with what you have. It seems companies would rather you forget about your own ingenuity and pay a lot of money for a something you could do yourself

  • I am struggling to see the value of this cumbersome filter in any sort of survival situation...if going to be used at home, a $15 Brita pitcher would serve the same purpose, and yet still be small enough to fit in a refrigerator.

And good lord...at $209 If you needed to go the mass quantity route, I would buy a couple of simple water filters, and drill me out two 3 1/2 gallon water tanks which you can get just about free if you look. I couldn't see that costing much more than $25.

  • Nice! You'll have to show it at work sometime.

  • kudos

  • So glad to see you post a new video, keep up the great work...you are AWESOME!

  • I REALLY need to get me one of these.

  • my berkly light has a light in the base, a small rechargeable LED..

I use mine everyday, never had any problems with it and the water tastes great.

it is a pain in the ass to fill.

  • Where did you get it and what did it end up costing you? How much are replacement filters, and do you believe it works well?

  • @veritasfiles - I got mine from Red Barn Workshop, a link to their site is in the video description.

  • survivalistboards, is there any way it can be proven to work and get a video on it? i know you said go to there site but i dont trust companies , i only trust honest opinions , i will sub if this is ever a reality!!

  • some reason i thought it would be a UV light 'filter'

  • I love my berky

  • i thought id just mention that i apprecitate how you make it very clear when a company is sponsoring a video. some people on youtube will review something, but a viewer has no way to decide if the review may have been influenced. with you, if a review doest say that its been sponsored, i trust that you are telling the truth. thats good character right there

  • I have one of these... love it and use it every day!

Have any of you out there that have one ever reached the limit of the primary black berkey filters and need to replace them?

I have gone through 2 sets of the fluoride filters over the last couple of years.

Anybody wondering if they should get the one with the lights in the base... I would say "yes" - but only if you can spare the cash. It throws a nice amount of light for night time house-wondering.

  • The guys at monolithic dome inc also provide a filter that you buy but you provide containment vessels. 5 gallon buckets or 55 gallon drums up to you. They have used their filter all around the world in 3rd world countries where you are warned never drink the water and they use their filter last I checked the filter cost less than $25. ?

Almost anyone can come up with5 gallon buckets or barrels for a filtration system.?

  • $ 2.50 - $ 23.50 To provide clean, drinkable water to disaster devastated areas, the Texas Baptist Men initiated the development of a practical, inexpensive, but very effective, ceramic water filter. They call it the Just Water, Ceramic Drip-Filter.

Good flow rate / Up to 1 gallon of clean water per hour (gravity flow)

Up to 300 gallons per hour (pressure flow)

Once in use, filter will last 6-8 months.

I should get one JIC it would be a good addition to a kit.

  • I've got this same filter,I use it to filter river water for drinking and cooking, when I can't get to the spring.

  • it would be great to see the unit in action. I gotta get one of those.

  • Be sure to test the filters. You can do this by putting a little food coloring in the top tank and see if it filters it out.

I had a berkey and one of the filters failed. If I had not tested the unit I could have given bad water to my family. No offense folks but you need to test your filters.

  • Yeah, totally agree.

The 20 or minutes you'll spend testing each filter (you'd have to do one at a time and plug the second hole) is a wise recommendation.

I have never had a black berkey filter fail on me... but as you've said, why risk it - eh!

  • The video is not working

  • @clarosse - works fine for me

  • ★★★★★

  • are all the plastic components BPA free?

  • Aperently they are..

  • according to red barn workshop it is BPA free

  • I wish you would have run a demo so we could see it in action.

  • @biguy525 - that will probably be in the next video. I'am working on a water series of videos.

  • It's basically one drip per second, not exactly "action" :)

  • I've got a Big Berkey and I'll only drink water once it's gone through it. I hate tap water. I even filter the water I give to my cats. I loooove my Berkey!!

  • i have nothing but good health sence filtering city water ...no waking up with flam in my chest or a cold runny nose in the morning .

i wish they combine the black filters with a UV light treatment

  • One of the problems with modern day UV Lighting is "contact time". I have yet to see any UV light filter that provides sufficient contact time with the water so that it can truly do it's job effectively.

I use to run UV lights in a plant aquarium and even though the pump pushed a few thousand GPM it would still take *hours* to filter 50-75 gallons.

So, I guess the point I am making is how in the world can these UV lights possibly filter the water in a matter of seconds as it passes through.

  • I love my Berkey best investment I ever made in my health. I have the extra filters to remove fluoride as well.

  • no fluoride welcome to the club... my white fluoride filters are due to be replaced tax time is the perfix time ..

  • That made me thirsty
