The Fast were one of the most original bands of all time. They were completely unlike any other band in NYC. It's nice to see Miki and Mandy, after all these years. So many musicians from the NY scene died of AIDS.
Fantastic. They wrote Debbie Harry's wonderful punk track COMIC BOOKS, which even now is still performed at Blondie shows. Debbie wanted to release it as a single, but of course the record company was having none of it. I believe Donna may have written a song for one the recent Blondie albums or am I getting mixed up with Kathy Valentine? Love this, puts me in the mood for some Devo!
I love these guys. I used to see them at Max's and they also would come down to DC and play. Paul is one of my favorite front men and Mickys guitar playing was fantastic. I still remember the trick he did with the pencils shooting them into the audience with his guitar strings. Love the Man 2 mans stuff as well.
Yeah they never got the management team they deserved, they had it all, the songs, the sexy frontman and a great band. This is what power pop was all about, too bad they had to compete with the burgeoning punk scene. I was so sad when Paul cut his curls, ha.
I first caught The Fast at the Townhouse 44 in the early 70's. If there was any band who was more deserving of making it big, it surely was them. I remember when the B-52's OPENED for them at Max's all those years ago. Miki & Mandy had tremendous personalities. I had placed Coney Island Chaos on the jukebox of my local bar!
I was a major fan of these unsung power-pop heroes. saw them at Max's several times, CBGB once too. great memories! any footage with my old high-school pal Louis Bova?
Easily one of the most underrated and ignored bands of the late 1970s New York scene. Thanks for posting this great song and wonderful video...
