  • I had the chance to see them in the same formation in 1979 at the Munich Olympic Stadium in Germany live! The best Rock Concert I've ever seen in my life, especially this piece with Bariemore Barlow's genius drum solo!

  • Ian always had the best musicians in the world to play with and they worked very hard every day to produce the best rock albums of all time.

  • Aloha Robin, I have seen footage of the 1976 tour in Florida and Glascock was on bass. But, in San Diego the bass player was a tall thin guy with a light yellow pinstriped suit, a red bass, and a red fiodora had. (he took it off after the first song.) By just standing there I mean he was not moving his fingers at all (I sat front row right in front of him.) He looked and acted exactlly like Hammond. I can only think something happened to Glascock and Ian was in a pinch. Could this be only show?

  • Barriemore B's drum solo here is noticeably more sophisticated than Neil P's YYZ live solo(Exit stg Left) in IMO.

  • I have seen Tull 5 times and the 1976 lineup was by far the best to me. Barrie had his hair died blond and a yellow kit. I love his intro to "Backdoor Angles." off the War Child album. John Glascock was now the bass player in the band, but for some reason he was not playing this night in SanDiego; it was Jeffrey Hammond on bass. I don't think he played a note, just stood there holding the thing, but did excellent job of backup singing on some songs.

  • @hang10jerry Hello, Jerry! Over the years, I have seen Tull approx. 30 times..... I am curious about your post here....Jeffery left just after Minstrel. Glascock joined for Too Old To Rock. I saw the Minstrel tour with Jeffery.. I believe that to be the ultimate line-up... You say in your post "he just stood there"... Do you mean Glascock? Would like to hear more about this concert....

  • I Had the pleasure of seeing this tour live at the New Haven Coliseum over 30 years ago, This drum solo was so good i remember it as if it were yesterday, Rock on Sir Barlow

  • God I had forgotten just how magnificent this album was! Tull were truly peaking at this point in their career and this is just a fantastic instrumental and showcase for Barriemore Barlow!

  • Barrie invented this stuff years before Neil Peart tried to figured it out, but Barriemore took it to a whole new level. There was only one way to make Tull this good and that was to let Barrie do his thing. Good drummers like myself completely get what he is doing and can copy it and even expand on it.

  • Awesome drummers for sure.

  • awesome composition. Complex and sophisticated, but much better to listen to than most works of famous solo guitarrists.

  • Tull sounded awesome at this time....I saw them twice in 1978 at 15 years old.....I can still remember Barriemore Barlow wearing a gilligan hat and rockin out.....fantastic show

  • when this was re-released onto CD....this and another song....was cut due to time restraints.......great stuff...still have the vinyl

  • He was called "the greatest rock drummer England ever produced" by John Bonham.

  • Huge tull fan, but Peart is deserving of his reputation. The guy could play a concert by himself....

  • The Jethro Tull "Live: Bursting Out" (Edmonton. 1979?) tour was one of my first rock concerts. UK was warming up so I saw Barrymore Barlow AND Terry Bozzio the same night. It was an AMAZING show. Barlow has been my favourite drummer since.

  • I've been a fan, a huge fan, of JT for years, and only later had the chance to know Neil Peart and Rush music; I think Neil Peart is absolutely the best, standing among all others....considerably above them! so I do not agree with comments about Peart being an average drummer...sorry...I think you're wrong! :-) he's unique!

  • @huntinggirl sorry, barriemore barlow is way better that peart.

peart has no chance against barlow.

  • @fox8950 oh come on please Neil Peart i way beyond compare to anyone else...

  • Comment removed

  • Still after all these years Barriemore Barlow Rocks my socks off, an exellent drummer love to get this on video

  • I saw this tour. He did a more extended solo of this version. Simply a matter of a third arm popping out of somewhere! Listen to his solo on Thick as a brick. Check out the Scottish flair and the unreal time keeping with the hi hat foot! SICK!

  • the musicianship in this line up was absolutely amazing

  • Yes, it was. Too bad they never quite got there again. They're still fantastic, but it's not the same without Barrie, John, John or David.

  • Take that, Neil Peart!!!

  • thats fuNny man

  • Lol,Peart has no chance.

  • Peart is good but Barriemore Barlow, Phil Collins, the late John Bonham, the sadly missed Cozy Powell, the also sadly missed Mark Craney (whom replaced Barlow in Tull) and the seemingly 4 armed/4 legged Keith Moon (also sadly missed) make Peart look like an average drummer. This drum solo of Barriemore just kicks serious ass. Damn shame I was only a 2 year old when this live recording was done. Barlow, Collins and Bonham are my three favorite drummers.

  • maybe im sooo tired of peart worshippers, but peart's accomplishments are immensely over-rated in light of all before him in prog-rock: palmer, bruford, white, collins, bozzio, did it all better and at least 5 years before peart made it platable as prog-metal. It may be that rush is less "prog" compared to Tull, ELP, Yes, UK, crimson, or alot of drummers who think peart is the best have not yet understood the musicality and drumming of the above groups. I agree with the above list, esp craney!

  • Another drummer criminally underrated is Pink Floyd's Nick Mason. I guess many didn't watch Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii nor ever heard some of the excellent Floyd boots from the 1970s as it showed Nick as a drummer who was very phenomenal. My Top 10 in no order is Barlow, Collins, Bonham, Powell, Moon, Craney, Nick Mason, Carl Palmer, the late John Panozzo of Styx (his "Renegade" drum solo is of legend) and then Peart rounds out the Top 10.

  • lol

  • Those who are looking for this track will be happy to know it's on the remastered edition of Bursting Out Live re-released as a 2-CD set in April, 2004. When I first got the remastered 2 CD version in October of 2005 (then replaced a year later), I was blown away at Barriemore's drumming. This is my favorite on the whole album. Barriemore is in my Top 10 favorite drummers of all time. I can see why Bonham liked Barriemore. Both used Ludwig drums and Paiste cymbals.

  • Gets my vote for the most fascinating drum solo of all time.

  • Mine Too.

  • I have this on vinyl somewhere collecting dust. Bought it when it came out. When I heard this tune, I immediately ran out to check tickets for the live show.

  • barrie is my favourite drummer by a country mile. tull were amazing

  • This just IS the greatest, most musically crafted drum solo ever!!-its so lyrical, you can almost hum every section of it!!!-Genius!!

  • Absolutely, I still haven't heard anything to touch it. Beautifully conceived and executed and still as technically challenging as anything twenty odd years of music college graduates have produced. He used to play working men's clubs before he joined Tull. Imagine turning up to a club and seeing a drummer like that!! Christ!!

  • Damn! I haven't heard this since I bought the "Bursting Out" LP back in '77/78? Lost the LP and would love to find the CD just for the great Barriemore Barlow. I saw this tour as well. Tull is the Best!

  • I know this is about Barrimore but Martin's not too shabby on this one either!

  • This song got jipped by not being included on the CD release of Bursting Out.

  • extremely underrated band

  • Barrimore B. and Neil Peart are the best in creating drum solos!! You can listen them like any songs...For me, they are the drumm heroes

  • I loved his gesture bowing onto his drums.

  • Barriemore- so great, so clean, accurate, innovative -I wish this was a video!!

  • oh, me too! but well, i don't have any tull videos, so i do what i can, this is my little tribute to jethro tull :)

  • carl palmer v barriemore barlow ?

  • barriemore barlow is god !!!!

  • one of my favorite drum solos on record .

  • a masterpiece !
