I think the cause had to be a failed steering part, as they would connect to both front hubs.

A steering box blew up, perhaps?

Looks like the car was "porpoising" down the straight just before the failure. Could be that the surface was uneven or it could be the imminent failure caused the movement.

If it was the track surface, the whole system might have hit a resonant point that would amplify the movement.

Scary deal. The "no test" limitation has to be re-considered!

@Pikyfroh me parece a mí que una falla tan catastrofica como la que vemos aqui (fijense en la "lupa" del segundo :54) pudo deberse a imperfecciones en el asfalto -las cuales a su vez crean vibraciones en la suspension-, componentes defectuosos en la direccion, fallos en el diseño basico o una combinacion de los factóres anteriores

@rumvodkaf1 You can't compare Red Bull to Toro Rosso or vice versa. They're not the same car. They're two different teams. While they may look similar, Toro Rosso designed the car. Not Red Bull.

@rockplannet1 The str5 is basically identical to the str4 but with some aero changes.Both Newey cars, both fall apart easily, or did you forget about the numerous times bits and pieces from their cars have come off in recent years.
