Baths is getting a lot of playtime in Skins US, I love it. This is so awesome. I want to learn how to do this. Does anyone know how I could get started :p
maximalist it the correct word for this track, as the beat stutters and delays are way overdone and kinda destroy the beauty of the composition, at least in this particular performance. they'd work better if they were in time. and yeah, i know you are into the non quantized beat thing. i appreciate it, but there is a subtlety that brings more to a composition that overworking it. that said - Cerulean is one of my fav albums of 2010. keep at it.
@gnomsayn - i didn't say the breaks were not in time, but that the stutters and delays overwhelm the time signature. I've been making my own beat science tracks w/programming & no loops since '95. I simply feel that overworking the core structure muddies the feel of this version.I've had to deal with the 'too much' aesthetic in my own music, so i know it well. personal opinion - something we all have & is subjective. I'm used to art & music criticism & find it very important for creativity.
I saw him live at the Amoeba in LA a few days ago! He signed a bunch of my stuff and he's a really sweet guy! A huge inspiration to me and my music that i just posted on my account, feel free to check it out and leave some feedback! I <3 you Will Wiesenfeld!
Ableton Live, by far the best sequencer for this kind of thing. It is to live performance what Pro Tools is to conventional recording - in a class of it's own.
What exactly are you doing here with the mpd Will? Triggering clips, beat repeats? I've been trying to organize tracks for live performances but I am having trouble.
He's not remembering everything - if he just let the scenes play in order from start to finish, they´d sound like less-glitchy, less exciting versions of his songs. He improvises a lot of the stutterings, FX sweeps etc. Sometimes he messes up and doesn't do what he expected, but according to what he said about the process in another youtube clip, that's ok - happy accidents and all that. He can turn the fx's off at any time and it reverts to the original clip.
@mouthbreather1 Will! wanna chime in and tell us what your running? ... I went to a couple of his shows, and at he was at a ableton tutorial demo show, and explained his process. So I dunno...
Sounds great.
