As a Body Combat instructor, take it from me that this is an excellent workout. It is in no way meant for self defense, unless you want to defend yourself from obesity and heart disease. Wildimo is right: "Never knock something if you haven't tried it with an open mind first."
The first part is track 4 from combat 26, bagpipes. The choreo is a little altered here, there is no upper and hook after the jabs, it's an alternated knife strike you know, hit to the neck, palm facing up but since it's a demo i guess there is no problem. Excellent combat track!
@TheZandman89 how is it gay?? it incorporates martial arts , the way i look at it its for those who don't wanna learn strict martial arts and have to go through all the dam belts just to become a black belt!! its simple and fun to do
@tatulover01 this is NOT martial arts ! this is just gay (: this is a dance and cant be used if you want to start some real combat sports.. this is a dance for god sake !? doing MMA (mixed martial arts) is usable no matter what you wanna do.. bar fighting or going to the octagon (the ring). look if you go jump and dance like that in a octagon your opponent would laugh so hard at you. and he would just do a takedown and you would have no ground skillz... FUCK body combat..
@Yacuzainthemix First of all, fight or dance, it can't have an orientation, so please don't call it "gay". "Gay" is not a euphemism for "stupid" no matter how many of your middle-school fellows told you it was. I'm sorry you were deceived but you sound like a bigot.
Second, I don't think many if any people claim this is martial arts -- just inspired by it, which it clearly is.
You might as well say Tae-Bo is dance too. I agree with you though, anybody who does body combat who thinks they can just do real MMA or Capoiera or all other martial arts used here without any initial training is an idiot who deserves what's about to come to them. However, if anyone is looking for an alternative to the elliptical or treadmill, body combat is the solution.
@TheZandman89 Or it's for women, who want to target their arms and agility in their workouts... or it's for anyone who feels like doing aerobic exercise that isn't the same moves they've been doing for years... And what's the issue with making an aerobic workout that's more gender-neutral?
I am a 2nd Dan Black Belt & Chief Instructor in PSDMAI. Open minded enough to go to Body Combat last week and LOVED it so much I want to teach it. The music, energy and intensity gives you a huge boost and we sweated buckets. It is not trying to be a martial art and it doesn´t claim to be. It is however, exercise to music, inspired by Martial Arts and is an effective cardio work out! Never knock something if you haven´t tried it with an open mind first.
@wildimo yah man, i LOVED the combat classes, les mills have some A MAZING classes (pump is another good one)....was just wondering what is psdmai? i've never heard of it before =) much love.
@TheTHchiX i think because they are limited by the stage they are on...usually you cross a lot of ground, where as they are not capable of moving much at all.....much love.
i don't see why people are cussing it to be honest. its an aerobic session. people like different kinds of workouts. this isn't conventional although it is an aerobic workout. it might not have correct techniques for punches kicks moves etc but so what. it gets people moving.
And it's not about being extremely good at karate or boxing or anything. It's a combination of boxing- and karate/kungfu-MOVES with music and fun!!!It's a pity a lot of people compare bodycombat to karate or boxing or whatever and are being very negative.
Try it, it's so much fun and you're really having a great workout. If you're doing it the right way though.........
@loutjuh76 Ehm..first of, you did just compare it to boxing karate and kung fu(and you did by any unknown reason write it "karate/kungfu", but there is a significant difference). Or to be correct: you said it is a combination of there three arts. I can't find a single technique in this video that would pass as anything of the arts mentioned above.
Don't mean to be rude here, but I think this is just silly...It's seems pretty much just like your everyday aerobic lessons, but they have just implemented few punches/kicks for it to look "cool" for the mainstream... If you're training for combat, you're training for real NOT "something like this" as seen on the video...
go to the Les Mills website and into the body combat forums and just paste what you said here... don't knock it until you've been a regular to this type of class.
I love Body Combat... I take every class I can at my Gym. I wish they had videos I could do at home or take with me on trips. :) That's why I'm checking out YouTube. I'll try to download an hour worth of great routines like yours! ;)
I remember this, such a great class. Les Mills classes are definetly the best. Since I live on the island of Oahu in Hawaii,we don't have those classes here and I think it stinks(that we don't have them)!!!! I want my old Les Mills classes back, only we need them here on Oahu.
The first song called Bagapipes from DJ Krid P and the second song is called scream from Billy Idol. Both are songs of Body combat 26. The first is track 4 and the second is track 3. And i don't understand why they changed th moves. Freaky
I hope you don't teach Bagpipes like that.... And are those actually instructors? Because the form is horrible. I know this is just a demo for show, but I'm crossing my fingers this is not how it's actually taught.
It is worse, they only demonstrate, they don't teach at all, the actual classes show even worse technique and form, so bad one feels uncomfortable being in the
same room as it is either ineffective or dangerous.
"knife" sound effects? are there even supposed to be in the orginal version from LMI? i don't remember hearing sound effects in bagpipes.. at least not on my DVD/CD pack... :/
