Great tongue in cheek commercial, and yes, it was intended to be that way. How about that tag line "It fulfills your deepest desires". Double serving of cheese. This is what made this movie great. Awesome plot with an original weapon/concept and these commercials thrown in as mild comic relief. Paul Verhoeven did the same with the original Robocop. I would love to see the other commercials. Warrior Cleaner, Oaties, and others I can't recall. Very creative movie!
I always liked the Evil CEO's comments, repeated near the closing credits. "The average American now spends one and a half years of his life just watching television commercials. That's 50 minutes every day of his life. Now that's power. Way of the future."
Not lame at all! Obviously a little cheese factor, but it had more of a late 70's vibe to it, than an awesome 80's vibe. That movie was ahead of it's time, not to mention basically predicting the impact cgi would have, without cgi even existing at the time. Besides, that girl is stunningly hot!!
plus this was totally making fun of how commercials really are..corny. In the words of Susan Dey's character while finding out about the truth behind the mystery of the film, "These commercials are just as dumb as ever" (or something to that effect). What she did not realize is that they had subliminal mind control programmed into them.
Talking about CGI 4kats...this movie predated all of it in giving us a filmic world where the images and people were supposedly being replicated by computers, combined with subliminals and a bit of mind control. Underrated thriller from the brilliant mind of the late Michael Crichton.
Not lame just outdated! Just like if you watch 60's movies in the 80;s some of them seemed lame but there were classic movies out there. I remember a lot of the 80's movies. Now that we have all the CGI shit everything before that seems lame to those who do not think what it took to get where we are now!
The man's voice is the same guy who did He-Man's voice. He-Man gives pretty good advice huh

these are the type of women i grew up watching in the 80's, unashamedly glam, sophisticated, vein and stunning - they make life worth living ;)

Spiffy! I wonder if the numbers still hold true.
