Jo was at the height of Her career when She made this record. She did it as a lark. During WW11 She was known as GIJo.After leaving Tommy Dorseys band She signed with Capitol records partly owned by Johnny Mercer. Then She made records with Her husband Paul Weston under the name Johnathan and Darlene which were novelty records. Then on to Columbia records and Jambalaya, You Belong To Me etc. She was one of My favorite singers along with Dinah Shore
I have several tracks by "Jonathan & Darlene Edwards" I might just put one on to youtube for a laugh...
By the way they were awarded a 'Grammy'
as J&D Edwards ...something that Jo was never awarded in the whole of her illustrious career when she was the highest selling female singer of the 50's.
I also think Jo did say temptation - but who is going to argue with her when she wasn't going to get any credit on the record - and listed herself as 'Cinderella G Stump'...
Can you imagine the coup that was - getting Jo Stafford on the cheap...? :)
From what I read, there was supposed to be another girl singer for this song but she got sick. Jo was walking by the recording studio and they asked Jo to sing it, and the rest, as they say, is history.
I heard on the radio this morning (Jazz station, I have no clue why they'd play this) that the manager didn't mind the Stump pseudonym (I wasn't listening very well, but apparently, everyone did it for kicks).
Do you know of any place to get the words and chords for this version?

The start sounds like either a later recording or an alternate take.

KinaNicole,
My apologies,
you are correct - it was this track - the finished version - without the interruption from the record producer...
Having never seen the film I was unaware of it...:(
Thanks for your comment and interest.:)

Sorry She did say temptation. This was a big hit in 1947. I remember I was in camp for 2 weeks and they played this record everday.

tennforever,
That is the same story that I have read and heard.
It seems tha Jo upset her agent and manager by recording under the psudonym "Cinderella G Stump" and declining to take any payment...
Thank you for your interest and comment..:)

RomZomCom,
Red Ingle was a member of Spike Jones city slickers - until breaking out with his own Band - which says it all really...LOL
Satire was their raison d-etere, and Jo herself - when a member of the Pied Pipers liked to add some comedy to their reportoire...
Thank you for your comment and interest. :)
