  • how are the new shadows and whites sliders different from just using the tone curve in LR3??

  • hmmmm, it doesn't make sense when you increase the noise slider the noise decreased

it should be the other side

  • do this mean a new ACR then?

  • @sungyle Press Ctrl+Z (undo). The undo action also applies to changing the selected photo, so it should shoot you right back to where you were.

  • @jessekohio I just discovered that all I need to do is to put the one picture I am working on in quick collection then go to quick collection after and ask it to go to collection.

  • Thanks for sharing this.

I'm looking forward to try the beta, although not having the fill light option is going to get some used to if you do alot of studio work I think. (as shadows are sometimes more prominent there...)

    Keep up the good work!

  • Brilliant introduction to the new functions of AL4 with a really nice and clear English. Thank you and wish it goes always like that!

  • Brilliant!

  • Will I be able to get Lightroom 4 update free as I have 3?

  • @apptotap Almost certainly not

  • @apptotap You get Beta free. I believe once they update and release 4 you go back to 3 unless if you purchase 4.

  • ...features, the underlying database and allowing easy multi computer or multiple user collaboration. Maybe that will be in the next version?

  • Great tutorial, you are fantastic at doing the demos. Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't look like LR 4 addressed probably one of the most requested featured

  • too bad some user presets from LR 3 won't work with LR 4.:-(

  • Fantastic tutorial. Thanks Julianne! Love the changes.

  • you removed the FILL LIGHT SLIDER.....BAD IDEA......i will stick with 3.3 n wait till LR5.....4 seems well dont knw not my kind.....what i do want is a wider range for clarity n a better n more powerful tool for sharpening.... i seldom use the brush but it having the same menu like the basic panel is again a bad idea.....n yes can there be slightly less confusion while using spot removal or is that a bug in my 3.3 version???

  • @rajsingharora1 They "renamed" and "improved" the FILL LIGHT SLIDER to the SHADOW SLIDER.

  • @rajsingharora1 haha boy go back to school

  • @dissectorX this is my school.....!!!

  • I like many things on LR4 Beta, but i it's a shame it can't open LR3 files.

  • Also, the "noise" slider should be called noise reduction, because logically, you would think moving the slider to the right would increase noise, not reduce it.

  • @Shoopdsa Or have the noise slider in the opposite direction, so left to reduce and right to add noise.

  • @googlifi That works too.

  • Awesome, but I think having the same sliders in the adjustment brush is going to be confusing. Wouldn't it make sense to have the background panel change color when you are in the adjustment brush so you know immediately that you are not in the "basic" adjustment mode. I think by color coding those brush backgrounds, it would make it much easier on the user to recognize which panel they are in. An option in the preferences to assign colors to the panels as you have for the user interface?

  • Well done!!!

  • Nice that you can do that fake HDR look, but where's my clone stamp?

  • We need a proper INVERT for neg work

  • Oh my jesus, that is so good an confortable!

    HUGE THANKS!

  • Filled with great features, first I couldn't get over changed Basic panel, but after I gave it a thought I find out it will give me more and better control over my image so I wouldn't have to jump over to PS so often. And if I wouldn't like it? Then I have to shoot perfect images out in a fields ;)

Anyway I was hoping for vignette center settings so I can move it around the image and not fake it with adjustment brush. :(

  • Full controls on brushes and filters,

    Better clarity,

    DNG compression and downsampling,

    Fast-load data on DNG

    RGB curves,

    Soft proofing,

    Improved CA correction,

Localized NR on brushes for that noise problem in boosted shadows...

I think I'm in love. Thank you LR!

  • Very pumped about all these new features. Was hoping to see some sort of facial recognition/tagging, but I'm excited about what is included in this version.

  • RGB Curve finally! That's great!

  • Oh I think I ijust stained my pants! The fill light messing up my midtones was always a right PITA!!

  • I think you've finally got the sliders right with setting them to 0, except the Noise slider. Increasing the value, decreases the noise. IMO - call it noise reduction or invert the effect the slider has. Great job on the new features! Downloading the beta now!

  • As a Fashion Photographer,I hope LR4 will increase the tether shooting speed, now LR3 is too slow for us!

  • Oh my gosh!! This is so exciting! I love the new features!! The RGB curve is the main thing that I wanted honestly. Im downloading it now!

  • Moire removal!

  • Unified localized and global adjustment features? WIN

  • Also RGB curves? YES

  • Whites & Blacks? FINALLY
